Google's New Competition

A former member of Google has released a new search engine and claims that it will be better than Google. It is called Cuill (pronounced "cool").

I think that at first people will use it out of curiousity, but in the end Google will be the favourite search engine for most people. Alot of people could use both so they can get a broader range of information, but Google will stay superior. Just my opinion. What are you opinions on this?

I'm thinking about the same thing. This thing just doesn't have the legs to stand. Google is a titan now. Let's say this thing is actually better. It's not like Google is awful. It's effecient, easy to use, and by far the best there is. It's the same with wrestling companies. Some might say TNA blows WWE out of the water. Ok that's fine. Even if they do, WWE is still so far ahead of everything else it's not even funny. They're not going anywhere and neither is google, at least not for a logn long time.

There's no way it'll be able to take over. Not in the near future anyway. Does this company have the same ammount of funding as Google? I doubt it. What's really stupid is that you'll probably have to Google that name to find the search engine. You'll also have to Google to find out the spelling.

BTW you guys can go to the site right now.

cuill.com

I went there and I don't really like the look or the setup of it. I tried to search "The Simpsons" in the engine and nothing came up, but then I searched "Toronto Maple Leafs" and I got some articles. I guess they haven't tapped their resources yet and are still tweaking some things.

This is never going to work for one reason:

The name.

People are just going to hear it's pronounced "cool" and try to go to cool.com. They're going to get a result of a page that has some garbage on there. When people find out it's pronounced "Cool" but spelled as "Cuil", they're going to most likely be enamored with confusement.

I did a search, and I don't like how everything is spread out into 10 blocks a page... too much clutter. The article says that Google has been the same for the last 10 years. Some see that as a bad thing, I see it as them knowing what works.

I went on there and it wasn't bad as search engines go, I prefer it to the likes of Lycos and Ask Jeeves. It's just the fact that people will stick to what they know. After exploring it for a bit there are certain features I like on it that Google doesn't have...but it doesn't have an image search or anything like that. I bet they put one in sooner or later and then what we will have is basically a clone google site.

It's like if a WWE writer left the WWE and tried to make his own promotion better than the WWE, it would never even come close because the WWE already provides what an average wrestling fan would want and people just like to stick to what they know... how can that man know what parts of google people like most?

People won't use it. There are so many search engines out there, why would this one be so special? It's name is not rememberable at all, even in this thread I see people mispelling it.

If you can't remember the name in a thread about it, what chance will you have of remembering it when you need it? The name choice has already stopped it from making it big.

If anyone does go on it, it will be because of curiousity and wanting to look at what it has. Sure it may have new features of improvements, it may even become better thn Google. But people will stay with what they know.
