I used to be a big deal
Just announced that they're making another trilogy, the rights have been bought by another studio. But Arnold won't be back, except maybe a Cameo. It's said the new movies will be a new storyline and not a continuation of the previous plots. It'll follow the story of John Connor, now in his 30s, and fighting a losing battle against the machines.

It's said the movie will be released Summer 2009. Arnold's in power until 2011.

Also, there will be a TV show based on the films, called "the Sarah Connor Chronicals", and it will be based around the the named character and the mythology surrounding the movies.

I for one am excited, I was one of the people who enjoyed T3 and was a big fan of the entire trilogy (and Arnold in general, I seriously have most of his movies), and it will be interesting to see what direction they take this in now. They seem serious about making it work!

It could do well. I've told a couple buddies on how I would do the Terminator movies now without Arnold, it was a no brainer he wasn't going to be involved. I figured there would be two more, not three, but I see it working like this.

Four your still seeing the machines taking over the world and herding everyone into camps, but finally at the end, you'll see the first victory that they talked about in the First Terminator.

Terminator 5, Arnold Cameo. He maybe the human the machines keep alive, a scientist or something, yes I know, Arnie a scientist maybe the most unbelievabel thing in this sci-fi epic. But it would explain the model for the T-101. Imagine an older Arnold looking at the first model coming off the line, that would be bad ass. This movie ends with Reece being sent back to the past.

Terminator 6, thsi movie begins with the reprograming of the Terminator from the 2nd movie and sending it back in time, and then ultimately ends with Connors death that was eluded to back in the third film, wrapping everything up nicely.

It's weird, I love time travel movies. It's a prequel trilogy, but takes place in the future, that fucks with your head.

There was a rumor floating around that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, was going to take up the reigns of all of Arnold's old movies. Such as The Terminator, a new Predator, and Conan The Barbarian. However, he is not listed for any of these as of yet. I actually do see Rock being type casted as the "New Action Hero" because, lets face it, he's pretty good in action movies, if you like that action movie cheese. He has what it takes to become the next Arnold, Sly, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude, and even Steven Segal.

I've got to say this could possibly be one of the stupidest moves, ever.

It's obvious what they want to do here is make money off the Terminator name, however they've failed to realize that the Terminator movies basically are one thing only: ARNOLD. Nobody will see these movies without Arnold, simple as that.

These are going to bomb horribly and do nothing but desecrate the great legacy of one of the best movie trilogies of all time.

I think you're wrong. I don't think Arnold played that big of a role to where people watched the first three because of him. They were good movies with a good story. That's why people watch(ed) them.

Will these be worse or better I don't know, but I am glad to hear this. I for one will watch them without Arnold.

X, I'll disagree with ya on that. The first Terminator wasn't about Arnold at all. Sure he was the name attraction, but that movie succeeded because of the great story and the roles that Michael Biehn (Perhaps the most underutilized man in the movie business, Kyle Reece and Corporal Hicks, are you kidding me, the man was amazing), and Linda Hamilton played. If the love story didn't work in the first one, the movie would have been just another shitty arnold action flick.

And the 2nd one, you can argue that Edward Furlong stole that movie. It was the father son story that stole that movie, and the sacrifice of someone that really pushed that movie. The first two movies are about as flawless as they come in the world of Action movies, with Arnold playing very little in that. Sure the I'll be Back, is infamous, but the T-1000 and Robert Patrick in that movie were so damn good.

Then you get to T-3, which was about as big of a steamy pile of poop you could put on the screen. Not saying it was horrible, but its run time was about a half an hour too short. This is what happens when Cameron jumped ship. The movie focus turns more to the action and less on the story, which is why it bombed.

If the new director and new trilogy direction are right, T4 maybe one of the best movies on paper in the last decade. You're dealing iwth the struggle of humanity against a souless monster in the machines. You'll see the groundwork made by Connor to free the humans from near extinction and probably the beginning of the Human Revolution. I for one would love to see this, but I don't think it needs 3 movies for it to be told. You can tell the prequels in two movies if done right.

Michael Beihn should be brought back to play John Connor, how trippy would that be? If done right, and that's the key, the scene were John Connor spots his father, who will be 20 or so years younger then him, and trains him for his secret mission, will be so insane. Reece is his father, but half of his age, it probably would weight immensely on Connor, and could be a very damn good scene.

I never said I wouldn't see it or that it didn't have the possibility of being a good movie, I just think that if they try and make one without Arnold, your casual movie going audience isn't going to want to see it and thus it will bomb. I mean Arnold WAS in the 3rd one and it bombed(though I enjoyed it immensely). If they get the right director, the right screenwriter and the right actors the movie could be balls out awesome, but we have to wait until we see those names.

It's true that the films all work best because of their great stories and great acting, not to mention groundbreaking special effects. You can't deny though the star power that Arnold was already wielding with the first one and his huge celebrity by the time the second film rolled around. He played a huge factor in the series, can you honestly picture anyone else on the planet playing that role other then Arnold? When an actors done that, he's done a damn good job. Not saying Arnold is exactly the best actor, I think he's proven that in a shitload of crappy films as well (coughcoughJINGLE ALL THE FUCKING WAYcoughcough).

Terminator 4 was always going to occur because, they left so many things unresolved in T3, I will be looking forward to T4, but I would worry about who they cast as John Conner, will they keep the same guy that was in three cause I Liked that guy as Conner.

I don't think it will be as good without Arnold. I think the movies will probably be a success and be good but it will feel different at first. I'll definetily see them.

Themovieblog.com (I'm on a roll tonight with these movie posts, lol), is saying Nick Stahl is going to be in T4 because it's in his contract (which were sold along with the rights to make the movie apparently)... the blog then goes on to bash T3 for the rest of the post, lol.

They say T3 should've been in the set in the future, but I think it was done properly. The actual bombs going off scenario needed to be explained, instead of going back to do a prequel in the future.

Anyway...

I'm a huge fan of T1 and T2. T3 had a great premise but was executed in a such a lousy fashion that I nearly threw my Sprite at the goddamn theater screen more than once during it. Most of the problem with T3 was in the editing room. The editor responsible (and director Mostow) didn't have a remote grasp on getting the tone right so that it was in line with the previous films (which was perfect). Hopefully, the new people in charge of these sequels have their heads on straight and get some creative heads that rebuild things along the lines of what Cameron was doing. For anyone who wants to see an alternate version of T3 that is better edited, do a search for T3: The Hope Edition. I torrented it and it cuts a lot of the redundancy and crap from it to at least streamline the film into a passable product.
