Breaking bad is on my to watch list but ive heard nothing but good things from people who havent recomended a bad show to me yet.

The wire is arguably the best show ever. You need to commit a lot of time to it but it's worth it.
The first series of blackadder was shit and the writers realised this so they changed things in seasons 2-4. It's another one of the best british comedies.

 

[Dowdsy McDowds]

Oz is a prison drama in America, with Oz referring to the Wizard of Oz and the name of the facility being Oswald. No Australian attachments. (Unless you're in prison?)

The Corner is by the same guys who did The Wire and is worth watching before diving into The Wire. Features several actors who pop up in The Wire and is one of the best mini-series' ever made.
Generation Kill is again attached to The Wire as it was written by David Simon and maybe Ed Burns too. Set at the start of the 2nd Iraq War and follow a journalist who is documenting what is going on. Only 7 episodes but again, a fantastic mini-series.
Bored to Death stars Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Gala... Galifi... (ginger bearded guy) and centres on Jason Schwartzman who is a budding writer but then starts moonlighting as a private detective after breaking up with his girlfriend. Very funny and worth seeing just for Ted Danson getting high and doing criminal activites when high.

The Mighty Boosh is a surreal comedy that is set in a zoo in the first series then moves on in later series'. It's very love/hate but it's worth a watch to find out.
The Thick of It is a British comedy set in the bowels of the British Parliamentary system. Doesn't sound too exciting right? That's why they have Malcolm Tucker, the sweariest spin-doctor there's probably ever been who is the star of the show and is constantly trying to tidy up everyone else's mess and make sure they all toe the party line. In the Loop was a kind of spin-off film version, so maybe watch that first to see if you like it.
Still Game is a Scottish sit-com about 2 pensioners who deal with the mundane life of being a pensioner by getting into capers. Very strong supporting cast too.

Conchords not sitting well due to them being New Zealanders?

Homicide is based on the book David Simon wrote and was brought to the screen by one of the guys behind Oz too. 90s cop-drama that centres on the detectives rather than both sides of the crime equation but has a really good cast and some great writing too.
City of Men is a spin-off of sorts from City of God and centres on 2 kids growing up in the ghettos of Brazil. A lot of the same actors from God appear in Men in different roles, so if you liked God you'll probably like Men.


I knew I was forgetting a show, League of Gentlemen, but not the film.

Can't go wrong with the Simpsons. I may be the only one who still likes it, but I'm still a big fan of Survivor as well. And I used to like Without A Trace before it went off the air.

Absolutely. He wrote it, and actually gets what the character should be.
Another Ricky Gervais comedy. Every bit as good as The Office.
Good, good. Probably my favourite show at the moment.
British political comedy. You probably have to be British and politically aware to get the most out of it.
I thought you were Australian? Gem of a comedy and one of the best shows I've seen all year.
Two of the best magicians in the world showing that they're both smart and funny. If you're interested in skepticism, definitely give it a go.
