Gimmik Matches

Getting Noticed By Management
I would like to know what gimmik matches everybody wants to see comeback and at what Pay Per View?

With the theme Pay Per Views I was think about this and about all the gimmik matches we haven't seen. I think there are a lot of matches that could fit in with Extreme Rulez or Survivor Series that we haven't seen in a while. Gimmik matches I would like to see are:

The Gauntlet Match at Survivor Series: Like The Survivor Series Traditional 5 on 5 elimination matches there would be two teams with however many guys on each team. The only difference between the two is that not everybody is out at the same time and it's not a tag match. Two start in the ring from opposing teams obviously. When somebody pins somebody the loser goes back to the back and the next member of that team comes down to the ring. I think it would help the Survivor Series freshen up.

The Triple Cage Match: At Extreme Rulez. I have have never seen one before so I think it would be interesting to watch.

Inferno Match: Extreme Rulez: It's been a few years since we have seen one and it would help freshen up the matches a little bit.

The Lion's Den: I really liked this match. We probably wouldn't see all the big spots but it's not really needed in this match. I think it would be fun to watch.

Anyway those are what I would like to see come back. What Would you guys like to see come back and at what Pay per views?

TNA kind of watered down gimmick matches for me. So I guess what I want to see is more 1 on 1 matches with no stipulations, I guess thats starting to become a gimmick match nowadays in TNA.

The gauntlet match you spoke of is about the same as Lethal Lockdown, minus the cage.

But if I had to choose one, I would say First Blood. I know it won't be in WWE, but I wouldnt mind seeing somebody do one.
I dont want to see a full First Blood PPV, but it would be a welcome part of any of the PPVs that are out there.

Ive always wanted to see a TLC match take place in a Hell in a Cell. Sounds far fetched but I like TLC's and Hell in a Cell's. Put them together and you got TLC from Hell! It don't get more gimmicky than that.

i would like to see an elimination lethal lockdown match in wwe tna do it well but a think wwe could do it better and have it elimination style could make it better

or at elimination chamber have a tag team one (like in smackdown vs raw games)

I was a fan of the inferno match ...

Granted it was used soley for Kane or UT , but id like to see that come back to a PPV. How about SS? Its the summer , fire , they could easily do something with that.

But I'm not too sure if there was an inferno match in the PG era. If there was then ok , but if not then obviously it wouldn't be back. But its something I always liked. Maybe they weren't getting burned for real, but that fire around the ring was just "awe inspiring". I'm a flame finatic so don't get me started. Young arsonist ... holla!! Jk ...

Ok , so if that doesn't work out , id like to see falls count anywhere matches more than I do. Batteling all around the building is just fucking bad ass. I'm talkin' everywhere , the food stands , the upper deck , boiler room , hell , just any door that opens would do with me. I just love the improv that it brings to the table. Rock and mankind @ .... damn , I forget which PPV the I quit match was , but it was a master piece. They went everywhere and put on one hell of a show. MK got fucked up in that one. For real. And that's why Mick is always a legendary figure in my book.

But that's brings me to another ...

The "I quit match" ...

Possibly my favorite match. Its always a "slobberknocker" ill tell ya. But it takes the right feud to really pull it off. Mick and Rock are just one example. But there's plenty of matches that have been really brutal , and the I quit match it just a good end to a feud. Making someone verbally quit and beg for mercy is just awesome. It makes whoever goes over look like a real hard ass. I always loved bad guys, and usually this is where they shine. I don't really have any examples or other match to cred shit with , but ones that get mentioned are there for a reason. I marked the fuck out. Damn this mary jane, be fuckin with my short AND long term memory. Don't ever let anyone tell you its just the short term. Lol

But id say #1 is bring back more I quit matches. I love seeeing someone punk out :)

I think I want Time Limit matches to make a come back. That way we get a good 20 - 30 minutes of wrestling out of these guys, and actually SEE a show for our money. Lately, they've been doing 5 - 7 minute matches and I feel cheated paying my money to witness it. I haven't bought a PPV since Wrestlemania, and it's hard to part with the cash for Summerslam, to be honest. Some great matches are set up, but I'm not getting a full 10 minutes of entertainment out of any ONE performer. Sorry, I may sound cheap but I want 5 matches that last 20 minutes plus (one on one, I'm not counting this turd 7-man tag team elimination B.S.)

I know they work hard, and I've always supported them for giving what they give, but if I pay to see it on PPV, I want it to be worth while. 7 minutes isn't worth my cash.

I definately enjoy "I Quit Matches." The one your thinking about sounds like one between Rock and Mankind at the Royal Rumble 1999 I think. Another good one is between John Cena and JBL around Judgement Day 2005. And for the Kane and the Inferno Match I always felt that a good way to bring back the mask would be that. A match betwee Kane and UT would be great. Then Kane can come back for revenge and set up a match at WM 27. But that's for another thread.

@ Damion-The TLC HIAC match would be AWESOME. You could have Edge vs. Undertaker since they are the Kings of these two matches. The spots they could do in the match would be great. Could be a classic.

Well, don't tell Samoa Joe that. No one wants a 300lb man crying like a baby. lol

Personally, I would like to see just a regular, no gimmick one-on-one main event come back. I get that screwy finishes are a part of wrestling. But do you really need to add a gimmick if the feud has been so damn good that you are putting it on last?

You're in luck, then.

Check out Undertaker vs. Edge, from the 2008 SummerSlam.

"I Quit" Matches work best between two guys who have a really intense fued AND can work super hard. The two I remember best were the Starrcade 85 Match between Magnum TA & Tully Blanchard which was for a championship (Blanchard was US Champion) and in a Steel Cage. NWA matches were way more brutal than WWE matches back then so these two beat each other senseless, bleeding everywhere, but the hatred between them really came through, classic ending when Blanchard breaks a jagged piece of wood from a folding chair and attempts to gouge TA's eyes out to force the submission only to have TA wrest the weapon away from him and stab him in the forehead, refusing to release him until he quits.

The WM match between Brett Hart & Steve Austin was another example, no cage this time but two guys who not only were great workers but really sold their hatred for each other. "I Quit" matches don't work as well if the competitors don't really despise each other.

I seem to remember a match between HHH & HBK in 2003, maybe Survivor Series, where they fought 2 out of 3 falls but each fall had a different gimmick. You could make the 1'st fall a submission match, 2nd fall a Last Man Standing Cage Match, then go TLC in the 3'rd fall. That would be worth the money.

I love Battle royals, Lumber Jack matches and the Rumble.
I love the matches where you can see a lot of different people that wouldn't normally be in the same ring.
Cause all at the same time you'd see a a couple tag teams, high carders all the down the poll to the lowest.

So many gimmick matches from the past are beyond PG content; inferno, buried alive, first blood, I know I'm missing a couple....A little help?

And "Damieon Humber" said something about a TLC/HIAC.What a coincidence, I have had that vision before too! But like I said, how good could that possibly be under a PG rating? Four years ago, that would have been insane!

WWE does plenty of good gimmick matches now: I Quit, submission, TLC, ladder, Cell, cage, Iron Man, casket, last man standing, etc....

anyone see the movie Ready to Rumble? well that cage match would be awesome, not sure if there actually is a name for that one, sorry if im forgetting it. but was always a big fan of the inferno match as well, before i even read the thread that was the first one that came to mind. Buried Alive matches were always really exciting to see as well, especially Live! if Vince really wanted to "kill off" the Mr.Mcmahon character, would be the perfect way, look what it did for the American Badass/Big Evil.

Something I liked, but never really saw its full potential was WCW's "Spin The Wheel Make the Deal" concept, where a wrestler would spin a wheel of fortune wheel and have to wrestle the match it landed on. I thought thee was a lot of potential in that.

Unfortuantely, the first time they forgot to gimmick the gimmick as it were an it legitmately landed on the uber-dull coal miners glove match which Sting and Jake Roberts had to work with. If they had fixed it to come up with a more exciting gimmick things would have gone better. The second one with Cactus and Vader was better, but then it disappeared. Shame.

Another gimmick I'd love to see again is Wargames. It's been sort of done with the TNA Lethal Lockdown concept but not nearly as good. The double ring just set it apart from everything else and the concept was so good, it didn't need weapons or silly over-booking to make it work.
