Gail Kim and Taryn Tarrell Almost Stole the Whole Damm Show!

I'll never forget this match. I couldn't believe the performance and dedication these two knockouts delivered at Slammiversary. I always knew Gail Kim could perform at a high level but I couldn't believe the strides that Taryn Tarrell has taken going from ref to in ring performer. The match told an amazing story. You really bought into the hate of the storyline between these two with their in ring performances. It was one of the best womens matches I have ever seen. The only thing that I would consider at or above that level was some of the matches Gail Kim and Awesome Kong had a few years back or some of the matches that Lita and Trish had in the "E". Congrats Gail and Taryn on an unbelieveable performance. Hopefully, they'll continue the storyline possibly at Bound For Glory. I know, I would love to see it anyway

I didn't see the match. But I HIGHLY doubt it's going to live up to the hype now, cause everyone is building it up like it was mike awesome vs. masato tanaka from the first one night stand.

Almost steal the show?? They absolutely stole it. Stealing the show means performing far above everyone's expectations, especially when the match isn't the main event. Name one other match that night that did better than expected. We all knew Angle and AJ was going to be good. We knew the X-Division guys were going to at least do some good spots. Every other match was pretty predictable as far as in-ring quality goes. The Knockouts match last night is one of the best women's wrestling matches I've seen in years. Too bad most people were on a bathroom break. :P

I mean ya, you could very well be 100% right. Angle and Styles put on a another classic, Bully Ray also did something innovative new when he took the knife from Taz cut the ring apart, took out the padding, the flooring and piledrived The Stinger on his skull. The Tag Team match was good and the X Division was opener was hot, Suicide did some nice stuff in that match that reminded me of mexican wrestler down south. I think I said "almost" out of respect to the other great action on the card however when it comes to wow factor and I definately didn't see that coming nothing beat Kim vs Tarrell last night.

I liked it but it's very overrated. People popped just cause women don't usualy do that sort of stuff. First of all that match was too short to get any sort of feel. And there was really two worthwhile spots.

Goodness gracious, lets unmoisten our panies and just calm the fuck down here.

Fantastic womens match, but this is all in relativity. Good for a womens match and actually "good" are totally different. It stole the show the same way a monster truck crashing through the wal of the arena would have, for the fact it was very unique to a wrestling show.

That's kinda what stealing the show is.. breaking the mold, doing something unique, giving the fans something they usually don't see. It's true that we don't usually see this kind of performance from a women's match and that's why it stole the show. If a monster truck crashed through a wall, the fans would be talking about it the next day more than the other things that happened because it was surprising; it was something they weren't expecting to see. We were expecting to see a sleeper with Gail and Taryn but we got the opposite.

To me, that stole the show. I expected Bully to get hardcore, Angle and AJ to put on a clinic, the X-Division guys do some cool spots, etc. What I didn't expect was Gail and Taryn putting the wrestling back into women's wrestling. Is it something we should all get worked up over? No, not really. But let's at least just give credit where credit is due for once instead of being typical disrespectful IWC smarks.

I think to start you have to put it in comparison to what Knockouts usually do. this match compared to your typical Knockouts match, was just AWESOME!
I certainly wasn't expecting this from a Knockouts match, or even from Taryn who looks more like your typical hot Knockout where wrestling ability isn't a necessity.
it was a last woman standing match, so you can't take it for a straight up in ring wrestling match.
there were multiple times during this fight where you were thinking, OMG HOLY SHIT DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!?!
the finishing move was just epic, with Taryn running and jumping off the ramp with an RKO/bulldog.
off the top of my head I can't think of another Knockouts match that was hardcore like this. I've also only been watching since 2010, so I don't know what happened before then.

The match was extremely good given the recent track record of women's wrestling and the fact that Terrel is still pretty green. Not to mention you don't see women crash into things the way these two did very ofter. The Cutter/Bulldog off the elevated ramp to the floor was a very sick spot. Female or male.

I saw bits and pieces of the match last night, and from what I saw of it I was impressed.

Who would of thought Drew McIntyre's ex would have a better in ring career than him at this point? lol

They stole the show, Period. Last Whatever standing match men, women you name it, This was one of the best I've ever seen. They showed intensity, passion and they sold the hell out of everything they did (including properly using the 10 count) this was not a Cheesy Cena vs Ryback match where someone popped up at 10 and ran the ropes this was 9 1/2 and a girl was barely on her feet, This was a match where they pulled some major spots sold them perfectly and it was a true masterpiece. Nothing was insanely over the top that you would not believe it could happen or that someone would get up from it, and it had this realistic edge in how the entire match was laid out, as performers these two women did more last night for women's wrestling (modern era) then any before. It was a 5 star match and it's as simple as that.

What's even more surprising to me is that this was Gail Kim vs Taryn. We know Gail is an established wrestler. Maybe if this match was Gail vs Mickie or Tara, I wouldn't be as surprised. But it was against Taryn, who most of us probably wrote off as another typical barbie doll diva. How many times have promotions built up those kinds of girls that can't actually wrestle just to leave us with no real payoff? For once, we got a good return on the investment and it was damn refreshing to say the least. Now I'm just worried where they're going to go from here...

In all honesty, after watching the match, I felt that it was decent, but nothing amazing by any stretch. But it begs the question, if this match "stole the show", as many have duped it, does that mean the entire PPV wasn't very good? It's a legit question after all.

I know I should keep the E out of this, but I have love Gail Kim since day 1 (when she won the title). This girl is such a talent. I love watching her. She is the only person I would really trust to beat someone like Awesome Kong. She is great.

I don't really know much about Tarrell, but from what I saw and heard about this. I will defiantly keep looking for her on youtube, and other matches.

This is what women's wrestling should be.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. It was a fine little match, with two spots that were rare for women...AND it was well behind Angle/Styles, Bully/Sting, the tag title match, and roughly on par with the X-Division match.

Both broads did very well...but let's not go acting like the two WNBA chicks who can just barely dunk are suddenly ready to enter the NBA dunk contest.

Respect for Tarrell went up big time. Clearly not just coasting on her other assets and put her body on the line. Kelly Kelly she is not.

if this match "stole the show", does that mean the entire PPV wasn't very good?

It's not that the rest of the matches failed to deliver; it's more about this match delivering far more than what was expected. I usually wouldn't comment on anything in women's wrestling because it's so rare that I see something that wasn't meant to give the misogynistic perverts some eye candy.

The match at Slammiversary was kinda like sifting through the garbage at the local dump and finding a perfectly good type writer. You're really not expecting to find anything worth while and then it's like, "hey how about that.." I mean, it's still a type writer but at least it's not totally worthless like the garbage you usually find.

Stealing the show is being stand-out better than the rest of the show, from an unexpected spot, and being the only thing anyone is talking about the next day.

Very good womens match, but this thread has two pages. Four posts of which are from two people.

What a great match it was. The story between these two has been terrific and I sorta hope it continues. Taryn proved to me, and probably many others, that she can go in the ring and go well. I've always been a fan of Gail, I think she's been the best female wrestler in the world since Trish retired and she really helped make this feud more personal.

The match itself didn't look much like a Knockouts match, it looked more like a regular LMS with Knockouts instead of male wrestlers. There were a few edgier spots that were exciting to see, especially the Cutter at the end. That was just epic.

I didn't think the rest of the night could match it, and it didn't until Sting/Bully.

I don't understand how anyone could say this stole the show when Ultimate X, the tag title match, Angle/AJ, & Sting/Bully where all better matches. It was a good match but certainly not a show stealer.

it wasn't a straight up wrestling match. it was a fight, last woman standing match. when do Knockouts do that?
for what it's worth, IMO all professional wrestling matches are more than just wrestling. personally I'd rather see a match with a few big spots than an actual wrestling clinic with holds and moves.

TMZ covered the Knockouts match/fight, and posted some pictures of Taryn's bruises.

Taryn quote.
"People underestimate me for being blonde and bubbly, but I'm an athlete, and I have a passion for wrestling ... I'll do whatever it takes to prove people wrong."

The women stole the show. The Ultimate X match wasn't that good. They barley used the Ultimate X at all. They just wrestled a normal three way match and then Sabin climbed up and won. It was very disappointing. Anything that includes Chavo and Hernandez I can't watch. The only time I liked Hernandez was when he was in LAX and Chavo... ugh! He was better when he was a jobber in WCWs cruiser weight division and he didn't speak. AJ Vs Angle... what a disappointment. I figured that that would have been amazing and while it was good it wasn't anywhere near what their pervious battles have been like and the ending of the match killed off all the mystic that AJ was building. He's not Sting 1997 (like some people have been saying) revisited. He's AJ Styles the guy who jobs to the guy who got hit in the leg with a hammer a few days prior... great booking there TNA! :/

Apparently a good match is now a disappointment. Are you sure you're disappointed because of the quality or because AJ lost? There's a difference. In my view, the match was pretty damn good. Told a story, had nice spots, the only thing I didn't like was the sudden finish. I'm fine with AJ losing (if they take this somewhere, like him taking out Angle for a while), but this finish was kind of weird.

Then again, they probably tried to make it seem like Kurt just got lucky with a quick pin. Better than having him knock AJ the fuck out.

Other than that, the chicks were pretty good. The match was "amazing" because they did exactly 3 spots we rarely see. We didn't expect it and the crowd popped for it. Anything that wasn't those spots was your usual sloppy hair pulling and weak punches/kicks.

However, I hope TNA learns from this. These girls can go and they can do some dangerous spots. In a time when women's wrestling is boring as shit, anything of that nature can help it out. If they can take bumps, make them. Gail certainly can, so can Mickie and apparently Taryn. I'm sure ODB can too.

The more you make these chicks wrestle like the guys do, the better. If you can take a dick you can take a chair shot. Ask John Cena.

I think that was the intention yeah. You couldn't have AJ tapping out or passing out (lol Morgan) so I think a rollup was the best way to go about it.

I thought the women's match was great! On Impact I'll usually skip the women's stuff but when I tuned in to see Mickie's segment I was intrigued since they favoured having this nontitle match on the card over Mickie defending her belt. In hindsight, great decision! Made the match all the more shockingly good! I think my interest in the women's division has been reignited.

Sting vs Bully was my match of the night though!
