What are your opinions on railroads, Razor? I'm writing a synthesis comparing diesel hybrids to electric locomotives.
Those super fast bullet trains are super awesome. Are they electric? I think so. Electromagnets and whatnot.
But diesel hybrids are probably what Union Pacific and the other major railroad companies use. They are absolutely necessary to this nation's economy, and the price of placing a super effecient electric monorail is what, a couple hundred million per mile?

You're describing magnet trains (what most monorails use); electric trains like the Acela draw power from overhead lines using a pantograph. Electric trains are more efficient, they draw more torque, and they're environmentally friendly.
Costs of modifying and electrifying entire routes are immense (more than what it costs to feul a fleet of diesel hybrids); and electric trains cannot run without a power scource.
