Food Stamps

The Man They Call WMD

Check Out My Spoiler Page
From the living legend Larry Zbyszko

The financial state of TNA: “…They just made wrong decisions…from what I hear, Bob Carter…he had a hard time saying no to his daughter, Dixie…Finally, they blew so much money with no real results after ten years that Bob resigned and I think the mother took over and she is controlling the purse…From what I hear…this guy is now fired, this guy is now fired and if you wanna stay there you get a pay cut. Half the guys wrestling there are on food stamps. I was shocked when I heard that one…”

This can't be true, right?

If so, it's certainly not unheard of.

Steve Austin talks about driving around about four states for $20 a night and only being able to afford a sack of raw potatoes to eat. This is the nature of lower level wrestling, which in reality is what TNA is. They're a very glorified indy company that got a TV deal.

Wrestling probably isn't the best career decision then.

It really re-enforces the theory that if you want something bad enough, it's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication.

It's not too shocking to hear that. Outside of top tier talent I wouldn't expect too many people making a lot of dough there. Couple in the fact travelling expenses get pricey very quickly and you've got a lot of expenses and not a lot of money coming in, but then again that's how you pay your dues. Paying your dues takes a big hit on the pocket book, especially in wrestling where job costs are larger than most professions.

Sort of related: When that Xema Ion fundraiser came up, was anyone else sort of astounded he didn't have health insurance? I figured anyone who has a job that can severely injure him any time he goes to work would be covered.

I'll keep politics out of this and stop there. Being a wrestler probably sucks.

Why don't they have other jobs on the side. That's where early 90s wrestling had it down to a t!
