Finisher replacements

I think that CM Punk's GTS is a bit dated. He needs maybe to bring back the anaconda vise. I remember when THAT was what he used to put his opponents away in his old ECW days. He could use that calling it his "Straight Edge Sleeper.?"

With Edge, I wouldn't bother with what he has. The spear, as much as people don't like it or think its ineffective, its got the marketability behind it. The chants of the Spear Spear Spear is a money maker for WWE right now. Shelton's Paydirt was super. I LOVED using it on my CAW on SDvR 10. Someone who could use a bit of upgrading in their finishing is McCool, granted, she did have a cool way of doing her Faith Breaker at first, but now its just kinda, eh, you expect it. She'd need something to go with the whole "Simply Flawless" or "Lay-Cool" thing. Granted I'm not a mccool fan, but that's just a thought.

I still say DO NOT MESS WITH PERFECTION when it comes to the RKO. MVP, I'm not too sure yet on if he'd need to change his playmaker. Yes its okay, but I'd think he would need to follow it with something. Maybe rolling thunder or something. Jillian's finisher, TOO much time wasted doing those flips. Something fast, I know she would do like a motorboat to her jugs at one point. Maybe that, and then like a face buster?

Miz's skullcrushing finale? To me a Jeff Jarrett bite. He's need something that goes on his bit of The BEST. If you're gonna be the best, that forward sweep doesn't seem to do it. maybe some kind of torture rack variation or something...just a thought.

I was talking with a friend of mine a couple days ago about this topic. There are a few people who are on the horizon of main event status but can't or won't make it through because of their current finishers. Everyone has hit that right on the head.
We were discussing McIntyre a few days ago. After he changed his attire and especially song, it is easier to take him a little more serious. But that double-arm DDT needs to go. I have no idea what to give him. I don't care if he brings something back or something new but it just needs to look more devastating.
I could care less about discussing the Divas but 'dbrdss', I like your idea about Kelly Kelly. With her being a former gymnast she could come up with something very unique. Even if it was just something flashy like Morrison's Star-Ship Pain. I don't mean that exact move, but even if it were something flashy like that I think she could pull it off. If I saw Kelly pull off a 450 splash I think I would literally shit my pants. That would be amazing but there is probably too much potential for busted implants or something. Lol.
Miz, he needs something new also. The Skull Crushing Finale was fine while he was making his way up, but now that he is going to be one of the next ones to break through and main event, it's time for a change. I think that is all I would change about him though. I'm glad he lost the hat and all that garbage some-time ago.
I also would love to see someone bring back the Texas Clover-Leaf and use it to perfection. This is where creativity comes into play I think because a finisher is exactly what it is, a FINISHER! You don't kick out of it.
As a quick side note, there are quite a few finisher currently that I do like. One that I actually kind of like, even though I can't stand him, is Cross-Rhodes. I mean it's a swinging neck-breaker I guess of sorts but I think it looks pretty devastating.

The only one who absolutely needs a new finisher to me is Mysterio. 619 worked against cruiserweights, but since he jumped to the upper mid-card and even the main event some years ago, it's just stupid. People just shouldn't fall onto the second rope like that and sit there, and then get laid out for a 3-count by a kick from a 5'6" man. I think practically anything would be better. His strength is speed, obviously, and should incorporate a sudden counter or reversal as his finisher instead of a long, goofy set-up for a move. Something like a hurricanrana, or even a suplex counter into a DDT. An out of nowhere finisher with the element of surprise is the only way he should be able to beat guys twice his size.

Yeah, and people wouldn't leave their legs on the ropes when Orton does a Hang-Rope DDT. But they do it because it adds to the match.
You don't see Rey using the 619 instantly in a match. It's after he's worn them down. Plus, it's perfect to pull for the kids. It's something they could do in the ring, to anyone.

I remember when he used to finish it up with a hurricarana (sp?) into a pin. I don't think many big men can make it look correct, so, Rey just finishes with a frog spash, or just the simple pin.

I don't think it adds to the match at all. The goal in pro wrestling is to make it look somewhat real so people can suspend disbelief. When a 6'5", 250 lb. man kneels there hunched over the 2nd rope for several seconds and then lays on his back for the 3-count, either slowly or violently overselling it, after Rey swings around and kicks his face, that doesn't look realistic whatsoever. With something like Orton's DDT, it's more believable that he could have beaten them to the point where they're limp with their feet on the rope. The whole set-up involved with the 619 just makes it a dumb finisher for Rey. He should go with just a hurricanrana, or a frog splash, or anything besides that terrible move. Mysterio is one of the best luchadores in recent history, but when he moved up the card and started facing heavyweights, he should have thought up a new finisher.

I will like The Miz to replace his finisher, it just looks to unpainful. I honestly don't get the point of that finisher. The Miz should start using a DDT or a neckbreaker as his finisher. If he has a DDT or a neckbreaker as his finisher, that will make his character grow more and the DDT or the neckbreaker will be more superior and painful than the skull crashing finally.

sorry if i shouldnt have posted for a reason but

i would replace Big shows ko punch (which i hate unrealistic if it kos you why not just do it first thing and win) wth a crucifix power bomb imagne show throws you into the air and you fall what 8 feet if he throws high enough

Is it just me or does it seem like most of the new WWE Talent (and a lot of the established talent) is lacking in original or devastating finishing moves. I not saying everyone needs to be flashy in fact sometimes the simpler the better. Part of me just can't accept that when Dolph Ziggler starts using a sleeper hold he's all of a sudden a submission master and everyone must bow before his power. I guess part of it is the over exposure of such moves and the crazier stunts performed in the past 20 years but everybody uses that move. I haven't seen a guy win a match with the sleeper since Roddy Piper and at least he could sell it. I'm not saying Piper was some technical marvel but he was such a character he made me believe it was working. I guess it didn't hurt that most of the people on the receiving end weren't slouches either.

Also, as much as I like Morrison's move set starship pain barely ever fully connects and as cool as it looks I can't help but cringe every time he gets a 3 count with it.

I like powerbombs but I haven't seen one that looked painful in quite sometime. Every recent batista bomb I've seen relaxed it makes me wonder who tamed the animal. Now don't get me wrong I think it's great to take care of the other guy in the ring but you can do so and make it look good at the same time. That's part of the skill of being a good pro wrestler. On the subject of powerbombs is Swagger that green or are people sandbagging him? He's had a couple close calls where I thought the other guy was getting dropped on his head. Maybe it's the leverage from doing it from the side. Idk.

Alright, lastly, the Attitude Adjustment. In reality how is this any more painful than say a back body drop. If he did it more like a Death Valley Drive it'd look good but this is another one that always bothers me that he gets a three count with. If Big Show did it, yeah little more believable because you're falling a good 7 feet.

Enough ranting from me. Do you think WWE's finishing moves in general aren't believable? Let me know what your least favorites are, what could be better, and maybe your favorite as well.

(p.s. I know they do moves "safer" in WWE i.e. no piledrives etc., if it saves someones career or life all the better, far to many deaths in wrestling today. But wrestling can be as safe as possible and still look real)

lol i agree i mean the tadpole splash seriously ? but hey alot of finishers ove the yr make no sense ala hogan boot + leg = finisher ummm no

there have always been 'lame' finishes. my worst pick would be bob backlund's cross face chicken wing. that's just awful.

Dolph is a great athlete and I think a sleeper hold is a waste on him. It's like Chris Masters with the "Master Lock." It's not so much the hold, it's the person whose doing it. They're both very strong and it looks more painful when they're doing it than others. It also looks like the moves are harder to break. Even though a lot of those moves have been performed by bigger, stronger guys and have been broken, I think these moves still look great when done by these guys.

WWE does have some lame finishers but they look a bit more realistic in my opinion. The Canadian Destroyer is such an amazing looking finisher but is it even close to realistic? hell no. Good luck trying to flip a guy and piledrive him. The Canadian Destroyer is just an example of an exaggerated finisher.

It's difficult to come up with new moves all the time and there are going to be better finishers than others. It's really up to the wrestler to sell them as devastating or unbreakable.

P.S. Waylon Mercy has the best Sleeper Hold sell haha.

I haven't seen a guy win a match with the sleeper since Roddy Piper and at least he could sell it.

If you remember Triple H beat Spike Dudley on Raw several years ago with the sleeper hold....and i dont mind the moves because its wrestling. I understand u want them to at least look real but sometimes they just look like shitty moves....

Its like the shooting star press by Evan Borne he is only 175lbs how is that all that painful....now if say Mike Knox came off the top doing that i could believe but not Evan Bourne.

How many people have you heard say that Kurt Angle is not one to pull punches and actually make his moves hurt in the ring and thats why Angle is good because his moves look painful and actually are...according to at least Brock Lesnar...

I agree with you on those lam finishers they are most certainly lame.

except for starship pain i like that move just for the sake of flashiness.

But another lame finisher would have to be the KO Punch it looks like he's not even trying to hit you! he's so bad at selling the move it's more like a slow motion slap then a punch

and there there's Sheamus's "pale justice" botch of a crucifix powerbomb. honestly it doesnt even look like it hurts as much as i love crucifix powerbombs, Sheamus's version looks like it hurt less than an attitude adjustment. when your finishing move is less impactful then the move that gets more flank from the internet than any other move. you know you got an awful finisher. i kinda liked the fact that someone brought back the crucifix powerbomb but he does it sooo poorly. if he did more like how say Hernandez used to then it'd be awesome

Thats all of i can think of at the moment at least

OH! and David Otunga's botch spinebuster move that sux

Wade Barrett Moves is horrible.. BTW, and wasnt the zig zag the same move Shelton Benjamin was using? but the sleeper hold.. I actually seen beefcake win a match with one of those but it was again a jobber on WWF superstars. LOL The Batista Bomb is still legit, the Attitude Adjustment is a leaping firemans carry, lol. But even the pedigree has last lost its devastation, i think its more about the new policies of rules now and how wrestler have to execute moves..

My Fav Finisher right now is the Rolling German Suplex TNAs move sets r much better i mean MUCH better i mean come on Melinas finisher and Beths Finisher is sold harder than mr. ziggles and morrison and a few others where r the moves that r gonna one up the tombstone the sharpshooter chokeslams the vader bomb etc...

Personally, I think Khali's chokebomb is stupid looking, sure it kinda of looks it could hurt, but if any one else was doing it, it would be even worse, now my fav, is Triple H 's pedigree, its set up perfectly and it looks like it would hurt anyone

Granted there are a lot of "weak" finishers, but for every wek finisher theres at least two that are better.

The main point made with Ziggler is warranted and I am not sure why they went this route. People seemed to be botching the Zig Zag so I figured they needed something else for him. I think if he was going to go old school, go perfectplex.

The Attitude Adjustment is god damn garbage. PLain and simple. That move is not a finisher unless put through a table. Also, his STFU is junk too. He does it wrong. His arms aren't event wrentchign on the head - he just wraps them around. The only thing he is doing is bening the ankle I guess.

However, nothing is as bad as Edge's spear. How stick boy delivers one of the most powerful impact moves in wrestling history (see Goldberg, Batista, Ryno, etc) and its sold as downright devestating is horseshit.

But like I said, for as many weak, there are twice as many good ones. RKO, Codebreaker, GTS, SSP, etc.

Who cares about finishers being exaggerated? Everything in wrestling is extremely exaggerated.

The Master Lock is absolutely a horrible finisher though. They teach you how to get out of that in 3rd grade gym class, how can "professionals" who "study their opponents" get caught in that? Its Chris Masters though, who cares?

MVP's diva finisher is obviously weak, but again, look who uses it. MVP and Chris Masters don't need great finishers, nobody cares about them.

Finishers need to be flexible, executed from anywhere, so thats what kills Starship Pain in my book. And thats why Cena's finisher is okay. He can do it from any point in the building, through objects, from elevated positions, and he sells it.

Id like to see this guy break a full nelson from someone that strong. Granted its not my choice of finisher, but submission wise it works more than the sleeper IMO.

I dont care what anyone says, the Attitude Adjustment is not a finisher. If anything, a setup move at best. Im sure it "could" take the wind out of you, but other than that, no. I know thats why he adopted the STF because the AA was coming off as more of a setup move. When was the last time he pinned someone from the AA?

I can break out of a full nelson. These guys are portraying professional athletes, they should have 0 problem getting out of a weak, basic hold.

Its about selling everything to the crowd, the crowd loves it. Therefore your personal opinion doesn't have the power of final damnation for the AA. There are plenty of stronger kicks/knees to the head than Sweet Chin Music, and yet Sweet Chin Music is one of the greatest finishers in the history of the business. The AA is flexible, its believable to get caught in that, and it has plenty of showmanship elements. Is it the strongest looking? Of course not, I think it looks weak for someone as strong as Cena, but this isn't the UFC.

I agree with many of the other posters, The Attitude Adjustment looks like it would hurt as much as a regular back body drop or even a scoop slam (or a powerslam, thanks for not knowing the names of basic moves Cole). Random Cole bashing aside, The AA does get a good reaction from the crowd, and it's not like the People's Elbow was especially painful looking either.

I actually like Ziggler's current sleeper finisher simply because he has that ruthless look when he's locked someone into it. Just take a look last night when he was applying it to Hornswoggle - he looked especially deranged. Every time he did the Zig Zag though, it looked like he hurt himself more than the other person. A finisher that results in him falling hard on his back every time he executes it is just stupid, especially when it looks like the other person "gets off easy."

Starship pain looks really cool, but the only problem is the set up. If a finisher takes too long to set up, it really loses some of the shock value involved with hitting someone with it. SCM and the RKO both come out of nowhere, and that's why they're so popular. Morrison should go back to using his superkick (the one he dubbed the Nitro Blast on the Dirt Sheet). His kicks already look vicious as it is; he'd be perfect for it.

HHH's finisher I would say is the worst finisher I have ever seen from anyone. The wrestlers take harder hits with closelines than the pedigree. It's horrible

Although I am not a fan of WWE, it is not just them that uses "lame" finishers.

TNA also has such finishes as Jarrett's Stroke, MR Anderson's Mic Check that is horrendously weak, even the Popes DDE was weak until recently when he tweaked it.

Having said that, Cena's STF is the worst submission hold I have ever seen (blame the murdering bastard Benoit for that), his 5 knuckle shuffle is just a Joke and yes his fireman's carry finish is not good strong enough either.

Starship pain should be a set-up move for something else as it is cool but weak looking, much like RVD's split legged moonsault sets up the frog splash.

Unfortunately though not everyone can have a finisher like the gringo killer or Rhino's Gore but sometimes a little imagination would be nice.

Finally I say Rob Terry has a freaking power slam as his finisher but if you give him a powerbomb e is likely to kill someone on live TV. :banghead:

This is a plague of sorts that has sadly been without a cure for quite some time. A lot of moves just look generic, but not everyone is good enough to have a move that can be pulled off every time.

Cena - Uncomfortably simplistic, seems about as painful as the five knuckle tard-punch. But, with it's simplicity it allows Cena to have instances where he can take out a much larger guy. This easy move makes him look strong. I can put a 400lb guy on my shoulders and I'm sure most pro wrestlers over 200lbs can too, but to Cena's credit, he found a move that he can do and that children believe. 2.5/5

CM Punk - who the hell said this is a great move? If you wanna give his kicks credit I'm okay with that but the GTS is a complete bust unless he is using it on someone 220lbs or less. It's not a believable finisher, he is too small/weak for it too ever be considered credible. To his credit, when he does use it one a small guy It looks different. 2/5

Jericho - Walls of Jericho, acceptable. Codebreaker, 1 out of every 2 times it looks like Jericho is being helped to the ground. Looks weak and uninspired. 1.5/5

Edge - Spear is a good move but Edge is not convincing enough, thats great that he likes pulling his own hair, but it doesn't look strong enough coming from a stick figure. 3/5

Orton - Awesome, setup looks awesome, easy to sell, can be done to anyone, and Orton is great at it. 5/5

The mechanics of a good move are how you do it and how you get people excited about it (Chin Music/RKO). Some moves just work and some don't. Best thing to do is sit back and enjoy, hope for the best and watch for the few that have really mastered their moveset to the point where even a dull move seems important. A move is just as much about the wrestler as it is about the move

I have to say, the Walls of Jericho could be considered lame. Back when Jericho used the Liontamer, he used to arch his opponet up more and lean back on the guy's neck and spine. It looked like it hurt back then. Nowadays, it looks like he is sitting on his opponets legs and performong a weak boston crab that would make Rick Martel cry. Thank god for the Codebreaker.
