Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Supermod!
BAsically through a bizarre set of circumstances I've just realised I owe a housing company £1200 from a house I rented in Jan 2007.

I never noticed, they've not noticed. HOWEVER this company is now the one I'm using to move into my new house. WTF would you do?

basically my mates already live here. I'm joining in on the contract with them, no deposit to pay however I need to sign contract still.

My friend was in a similar situation but the company didn't force him to pay because there was a slight mix up with the management over charging him from a different time he moved.

Ask for the paperwork, and try to work something out with them (e.g., paying a premium on top of your rent per month instead of paying it up front in full).

Yeah, try to work with them. Tell them you'll pay it off in addition to your rent each month. Sure, it'll suck, but it's better than paying the 1200 pounds in full at once.

It's unlikely that they'll notice at all. If they do, say it is a genuine oversight and either ask to have it added to your rent, or go to the Citizen's advice. Chances are that if its a big company, they won't do anything

If they had made an issue out of it, they would have enforced you to pay after you originally moved out. That's what a previous (evil bastard) company did when I moved out of mine, think my old housemate is still paying them back though.

But as Numbers said, say nothing unless otherwise. I would have thought a company being owed £1200 would be on to it a lot more instantly?
