Fascination about music.

Ferbian

Has Returned.
I've always had some kind of fascination about some of the things a musician could do, a guy like Joe Satriani and his guitar abilities for example, as well as the fascination about a guy like Chester Bennington and his ability to cleanly switch between regular singing as well as growling.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been amazed, or fascinated about the thing that a musician could perform on the microphone, the drums, bass etc.

These fascinations usually helps us into enjoying a band, or a musical artist, due to them being the source of the fascination, or them applying to the fascination in new terms of either being more awesome, or being able to reach a level that reminds you of where the fascination usually came from.

So I ask you:

What fascinates you about music? why does it fascinate you?

I'll start. There's a lot of things that fascinates me about music, as I mentioned above, Chester Bennington fascinates me with his ability to growl, growling in general fascinates me because of someone being able to use their voice like that.

Also someone being able to hold their voice at the same point through a song fascinates me that someone is able to gather enough air and take use of it to hold through more than 5-10 seconds at the time, a great example of this would be Staind - It's been a while (The live performance on their "Illusion of progress" album).

The thing that fascinates me about music is when a band just jams out and it ends up being amazing. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a prime example of this, they have such good timing in their jams and they have such a connection so they don't even have to look at each other they just know where to go and how to develop the jam. To me that is brilliant.

I'll go the opposite route Ferbs, and say none of what you mentioned fascinates me in the least.
All of what you mentioned is called consistent hard work/practice, and natural physiological ability. It may swerve non-musicians but it's just repetition and consistency. Nothing fascinating about that, i.e. "Fuckin' Magnets?! How do they work?"
I see a similar phenomena in sports. Non-Athletes marvel at the abilities of pro-athletes. Nothing marvelous really as you're just seeing the end result of a lifetime of practice, hard-work, natural talent, and in some cases supra-natural pharmacological assistance.

I'm constantly fascinated by The Beatles. I know, I know people like to say they are overrated but they invented so much in the rock world. The concept album (Sgt. Pepper's), the hidden song (Her Majesty on Abbey Road), songs fading into one another (First on SP, and then more famously on Abbey Road), rearranging the recording tape (Tomorrow Never Knows), and on top of that they wrote great music.

I'm usually fascinated by the lyrics. I can easily sit down and read lyrics with no music playing whatsoever. The way musicians write them is interesting to me especially the ones that are personal tat talk about their relationships or their emotions.

That's not to say you have to be a good lyricist for me to like you,( Linkin Park have some great lyrics but I've still gone off them) you also have to have some music that gels so well with it that it's impossible to think of one without the other.
