FAO Nerds Only...

What's the craic?
Howdy fellow nerds,

Just wanna hear a few anecdotes about when you realised that you might have nerd tendencies. I first realised this when I watched Adventures In Babysitting (also known as A Night On The Town) as a teenager. One of the characters is a little girl who is a massive fan of Marvel Comics' Thor. The basic plot is that a babysitter has to take her charges from the suburbs into Chicago to rescue her friend who has ran away from home. So what was the moment I realised my geek status? On the car ride into town the little girl states that all the heroes live in the city. What was the geek moment? All I could think at this stage was stupid script writers- everyone knows that the Marvel Universe is based around New York NOT Chicago. Any similar stories of anal retentiveness?:lmao:

I realized I had a bit of nerd in me a couple of years ago.

It all started in college really. I had a few friends who took Music Theatre there, and being a music lover in general I was excited to hear they would be reenacting the Stephen Sondheim classic Sweeney Todd. Let me stress to you, I am a MAJOR music lover. Even for operas and musicals, I don't give a shit it's music. So upon hearing about their good fortune I asked them:

"So, which version you guys coverin; the 70s version or the recent movie?"

Yeah, I had the nerds looking at me like  and I would definitely say that was when I learned more about myself then I ever cared to know.

I get that same look regularly when talking about movies. That's when I'm not being told I'm full of shit, like when I told one mate that Bruce Willis's movie Last Man Standing was a remake of A Fistful of Dollars which was a remake of Yojimbo... he couldn't get his head around the fact Last Man wasn't a Western (and don't get me started on trying to get him comprehend that the original was about a Samuri warrior:confused:)

Once, just for fun, my roommates at the time and I mapped the solar system in our living room, placing the planets the appropriate distance away from each other. We measured from our slider to the front door, which was a straight line, and it was the exact length of the average distance of pluto from the sun, if you converted AUs down to feet.

We also calculated warp speed based on a single figure mentioned offhand on an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. So yeah....I can be a nerd.
