Fantasy Warfare

CM Steel

A REAL American
Every month in an issue of WWE magazine they have a article called "Fantasy Warfare". Where the subject is past vs present. I read one fantasy warfare "what if" match between PaPa Shango vs the Boogeyman. WOW. We all have those dream matches that will never happen like a Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson in boxing.

But what fantasy warfare match would you want to see as a wrestling fan?

CM Punk vs Shawn Michaels
Still not sure who Id like to be heel and who I would like to be face. They would kill it on the mic and the match would be an instant classic.

A few matches I'd like to have seen are

Shawn Michaels vs Roddy Piper-Both of these guys in their prime were high-strung, versatile and were great entertainers...It'd have been interesting seeing Michaels on Piper's Pit being interrogated by Piper about turning on Jannetty..Their promos definitely would've been classic..It's a damn shame that never happened after Michaels threw Jannetty through the Barbershop window...If HBK ended up working with Piper after turning heel it could've kept Piper from being wasted by as a commentator and given both men a long-term money-making feud

Antonino Rocca vs Rob Van Dam-Not a lot of people remember Rocca or ever know who he is...He's one of the true fore-runners of high flying wrestling..He popularized it during the 1940s and 1950s, by doing among other things slapping his opponents in the face with his feet, doing hurricanrannas, cross bodyblocks/missile dropkicks off the top rope, etc..RVD also helped out high flying wrestling in a big way by using innovative moves he made up and having classic matches with people like Jerry Lynn, Sabu, Dreamer, etc...With Van Dam and Rocca both having unorthodox styles, it'd be a true wild card match..

Kurt Angle vs Frank Gotch-This could very well have been one of the most brutal "hooking" or "shoot" matches one could be subjected to..Angle with his lifelong background as a wrestler, along with Gotch's deadly skills as a "hooker"(submission specialist) would've made for some extremely brutal matches...

Luna Vachon vs Awesome Kong-This just would've been a flat-out fight...Even though Luna would be outweighed by at least 70 lbs, she'd still give Kong everything she had and might even get a hard-fought clean win over her...Obviously there's not many women's matches where they bleed, but this would definitely be a match where they should both bleed..

Undertaker vs Randy Savage-I always wanted to see this as a high profile feud...Savage's volatile character vs the undead...It would've made for some entertaining matches and memorable, wackyass promos...Sadly, the most that's happened between them was in the early 90s where Taker tagged with Flair or Sid going against a team sometimes consisting of Savage and Warrior and when Taker turned face he'd tag with Savage taking on teams like HBK and Flair

Mr.Perfect vs Roddy Piper-If this feud ever happened in WWF and actually was treated as a main-event type of feud, I think there's a high chance it'd have worked out..Perfect and Piper were very intense in the ring, Piper's also an underrated technician when he needed to be, so he could go toe-to-toe with Perfect and seeing Perfect and Piper on Piper's Pit would've been gold..

A fantasy match I would have like to have seen is Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle. It has the elements of a great match. Both guys are regarded by their peers as the greatest technical wrestlers of any era and it would be nice to see what would happen if their careers ran parallel.

I imagined a "Gimmick Elimination" card, if that counts as fantasy warfare. It pits TNA wrestlers vs. WWE superstars. These are guys that I feel share similar gimmicks or personalities and matching them up will kill off (not literally) one gimmick or the other.

1. Zack Ryder vs. Robbie E: They are similar in some ways and a match between them would at least eliminate one spiked hair grappler from wrestling for good.

2. Robbie T (Rob Terry) vs. Mason Ryan: These two buff bookends with zero talent and even less charisma can stink out the joint worse than anybody since Ultimate Warrior vs. Hercules! Again, two guys who are quite similar, do we need both of them? Let these two battle it out in a Lumber Jack match, since they're two lumbering oafs...

3. Santino Marella vs. Eric Young: With the Comedy Jobber title on the line, E-Y and Santino can wage war in a Tuxedo Match. Special guest referee, legendary job guy Barry Horowitz. Go ahead Barry, give yourself a pat on the back! "Job" well done!

4. Stone Cold vs. James Storm: I know, Stone Cold is retired. That is why this will be a "Redneck Beer Drinking Contest"! Special guest judge... The Sandman! Somebody's damn luck is about to run out, and that's the bottom line...

5. Sting vs. Undertaker: In all serious now, these two have spent more than twenty plus years building their legacies into what they are now. We call them phenoms and icons and they've earned it! We were teased a few 'manias ago with the prospect of a meeting between these two legends. Without going into details, we know what they've accomplished and this definitely qualifies as a "Fantasy Warfare" match! Who knows? Maybe one day it can be a reality!

Bret Hart/Kurt Angle was always a dream match to me. Two great wrestlers would love to see them go hold for hold. Considered two of the best, and always wished they would have met in the ring.

CM Punk vs Shawn Michaels
Still not sure who Id like to be heel and who I would like to be face. They would kill it on the mic and the match would be an instant classic.

Easy. Shawn Michaels should be face and CM Punk should be heel. While HBK can play the bad guy, it just doesn't suit him. Punk, on the other hand, works better as a heel, though I personally prefer him as a face since he's my favorite wrestler right now. Of course I'd like to cheer on my favorite wrestler; who wouldn't? Still, it would be great if they had feuded.

For my Fantasy Warfare, I'd like to see the following feuds:

Chris Jericho vs. The Miz: Both have the same look. Both wear the same ring attire. Both wear jackets. Both have the same attitude. Both even had the same finishers at one point (e.g. Chris Jericho's The Breakdown = The Miz's Skull-Crushing Finale = Full-Nelson Facebuster or Reverse Russian Legsweep). In conclusion, The Miz is the new Chris Jericho. Sure, Jericho's an active WWE Superstar, but it won't be long now before he leaves the WWE again. Therefore, this imaginary feud would count as a Fantasy Warfare in the future, with Jericho representing the past and Miz representing the present. As much as I'd like Jericho to put Miz over, I'm also fine if Jericho would beat Miz, which would more likely be the case.

Big Boss Man vs. Wade Barrett: Only because they have the same finisher, the Spinning Side Slam (the Winds of Change for Wade Barrett). It would be nice to see who could do it better (but I highly doubt that Barrett could lift Boss Man :p). Boss Man could give Barrett the rub here though.

Dusty Rhodes or Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes: Blood is thicker than water. I expect nothing less from this family, especially if it means putting Cody Rhodes over.

Billy Gunn vs. Dolph Ziggler: Billy Gunn and Dolph Ziggler have the same build, fighting style and signature moves (e.g. Fame Asser). It would be like Gunn facing his doppelganger. But as much as I don't like Ziggler, I expect him to win this one.

Booker T vs. Kofi Kingston: I know this match-up sounds racist, but I just can't help but compare Kofi Kingston to Booker T. Booker could give Kofi the nice rub as well and finally propel the latter into the main-event picture that he deserves (after seeing the Orton-Kofi Feud).

Kurt Angle vs. Jack Swagger: Okay, I know some people hate Jack Swagger, but you can't argue that he was once molded as the next Kurt Angle: with the Pro-USA Gimmick, ring attire and even the Ankle Lock. The only reason why Jack Swagger doesn't do the grapevine improvement is because it's a Kurt Angle Original. I expect Angle to beat Swagger though, both because Angle is better and Swagger isn't.

Jake Roberts vs. Randy Orton: The Snake vs. The Viper. Nuff said. Like Ziggler, I don't like Randy Orton, but he should win against Jake Roberts in this Fantasy Warfare.

Bob Backlund vs. Daniel Bryan: Given the fact that they're both technical wrestlers and that their finishers are related (e.g. Crossface), this should be an excellent Fantasy Warfare. Bob Backlund or Daniel Bryan? My money's on Bryan.

Shawn Michaels vs. Eddie Guerrero: Preferably in a ladder match at Wrestlemania 22, too bad Eddie died. But this match was very likely. I am sure it would have been a classic and it was a dream match to many.

Shawn Michaels vs. CM Punk: Could have been a reality if HBK stayed around for few more months, but I don't think HBK would have let Punk go over him at that time.

Shawn Michaels vs. John Morrison: Two style/face look-alikes. Two sexy boys go one on one. This would have surely helped Morrison's career big time and this should have been a dream match of a sort. If WWE pushed HBK into feuds with Kennedy and Masters, then why not this one? The face-off would have been a classic.

Kurt Angle vs. CM Punk: Could have been an instant classic, it's still possible.

Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Bryan: Need I say more?

The Rock vs. Shawn Michaels: Everyone knows about this, shame it never took place with two being around at the same time at some stage of their wrestling careers.

The Rock vs. Edge: I should have enjoyed this one, WWE has missed many matches that should have been a reality.

Batista vs. Brock Lesnar: Both of them were not main-eventers at the same time in WWE, so the match never took place and I don't think it ever will. But this will surely be an eye-candy for all kinds/ages of wrestling fans.

Tyson Kidd vs Brett Hart - for me I have always looked at tyson kidd as the next "Brett hart" though he probaly will never reach the Main Event. He deserves to be at the top of the Mid Card. Anyway this match could be very entertaining with both men with simalar styles.

D-Generation-X (HHH and HBK) vs Beer Money Inc - Again, to simalar tag teams for me I will have BMI winning against DX and at the end both teams hand shaking and DX chop with the pyro, marking the beginging of the New DX.

Brodus Clay vs The Big Show - Not the big show today but the big show back when he could run with out needing to have a glass of water and a sit down.

John Cena vs The Rock vs Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Micheals vs Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Brett Hart - Six of the Greatest of All Time in one epic match.

What about the ultimate dream match of the Attitude Era...

Stone Cold vs. Goldberg. This match was way more anticipated than Rock v. Goldberg and would have been match of the year without a doubt.

CM Punk versus "Macho Man" Randy Savage. They actually have a video on WWE.com right now that mentions this as a dream match. For me, it wouldn't be so much about the fact that they both do the elbow drop (which Punk only does out of tribute to Savage), but I think they have deep running similarities. Their styles are complementary, both guys are phenomenal workers, and both are terrific on the mic.

Shawn Michaels versus AJ Styles. I've never really looked at Styles as "another HBK," but I think they're close enough in stature and physical ability that this would make for an incredible feud and some fantastic matches.

Ken Shamrock versus Brock Lesnar. In a steel cage? This would probably end up being one of the stiffest WWE matches ever and, okay, I confess: it would be better inside a UFC octagon. But still, I have fond memories of Shamrock from my childhood. So why not?

Dean Malenko versus Daniel Bryan. If you can get into technical wrestling, how does it get better than this? Malenko is one of the more unheralded wrestlers of the entire Monday Night Wars generation and while he wouldn't bring a whole ton to the table, this would be one of those rivalries where the bulk of the talking gets done between the ropes.

The Undertaker versus Sting. This one is obvious. And for the record: I'm assuming that everyone on this list is competing in their prime. I don't have a terrific interest in seeing this match today, but 10 years ago? Absolutely.

Bobby Roode versus Dolph Ziggler. Technically speaking, this could actually happen since both guys are active and entering their prime. But I felt compelled to throw it in.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin versus Taz. This match may have actually happened, but I can't remember. At any rate, there's no chance it was done right. At the height of Taz's ECW popularity and before his neck injury, I'd be much more inclined to see this than Austin against Hogan in his prime. I realize that's wrestling purist blasphemy, but it's how I feel.

Bret Hart versus Kurt Angle. As someone mentioned above, the technical savvy alone is something to drool over. Hart has been lambasted at times for his mic skills, but I always quite enjoyed him on the stick. This is a feud that would provide great, even matches and excellent promos.

Owen Hart & "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith versus Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. In this match, you get two super-teams where singles stars came together to compete as one. There was a time when all four of these guys were near the top of the business, yet performed for rival companies. I always felt like Owen and Davey Boy were underrated as a team, so this would provide them a platform to prove it.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat versus Chris Jericho. Didn't Jericho feud with a bunch of legends -- Steamboat among them -- a few years back that culminated in a WrestleMania handicap match? So I guess, in a roundabout way, this has already happened. But it's never gone down with both guys in the thick of their prime.

The Steiner Brothers versus The Dudley Boyz. Arguably two of the top five tag teams of all-time, pitting technicality against raw strength and fervor, with both teams possessing some of the greatest chemistry in wrestling history.

HBK vs The Rock- Would of been great. To bad this one never happened and he almost could of.

Sting vs Undertaker- was always hopeing for this one maybe not so much now.

Randy Orton vs DDP- battle of the finisher

Undertaker and Kane vs LOD-2 of the most powerful tag teams

Austin vs Cena

Other Interesting Matches
DX(HBK,HHH,Billy,R.Dogg) vs NWO(Hall,Nash,Hogan,Xpac)

Evolution(Batista,Orton,HHH) vs 4Horsemen(Arn,Ole Anderson,Tully) with Flair as a special ref. also you can sub in another horseman if you wanted to i.e. Lex or Sid. but not Flair he has to be ref.

Nasty Boys vs Godwins-

Cactus jack vs Dude Love, vs ManKind -mind of foley match

Kurt Angle vs Ken Shamrock-battle of the ankle lock

Shawn Michaels vs. Ricky Steamboat: These two could do it all in the ring; they could go technical, submission, aerial, standard, you name the style, they could do it cause they were all round wrestlers. This would've been a hell of a match, maybe the greatest match ever if it took place.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Randy Savage: Didn't want to go with the obvious Hogan vs. Austin but here, you had two crazy ass heavyweights that spit in the face of everyone around them including authority, they were pure badass rebels. Put these two in a match together, it would've been wild.

John Cena vs. Sting: Again, I didn't wanna go with the obvious Cena vs. Hogan but both these guys are purely the nicest wrestlers you'll ever meet and were huge hits with the kids. It'd also be interesting to see some of Sting's no sell comebacks against Cena and vice versa.

The Rock vs. DDP: Both men claimed to be the Peoples Champion and how true that statement was for both of em. They could electrify the crowd and receive a pop like not many can do.

Batista vs. Diesel: Both men had kinda similar bring ups, with Nash being the bodyguard to Shawn Michaels and Batista being the muscle to HHH, which then eventually lead to them casting aside HHH & HBK and becoming big names on their own. The Batista Bomb & Jacknife Powerbomb's are devastating Powerbombs aswell.

Razor Ramon vs. Carlito: Both men oozed machismo. They came into the WWE as these cool, laid back, slick talking heel characters and developed into big fan favourites. Not to mention, they could put on some decent matches.

New Age Outlaws vs. Prime Time Players: Probably the last fantasy warfare you'd expect but both teams developed their charisma & personality by being show offs, somewhat comedic and catchphrase wonders, so personally I'd love to see it.

APA vs. The Steiners: Talk about the brute force in this one.

Taz vs. Dan Severn: Both men were shoot style killers in their hey day. They were breaking bones, stretching bodies, just straight up putting you in the hospital. Taz actually use to challenge MMA guys to shoot matches back in ECW, so this one would've been one to see, shoot or not.

Chris Benoit vs. Ken Shamrock: Would've gone with Angle vs. Shamrock but Benoit & Shamrock are more tough & more aggressive, so I would put these two raging bulls together for an all out massacre.

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Perfect: Both men were just flawless in the ring.

Owen Hart vs. Daniel Bryan: Excellent technical & submission wrestlers and on the mic they are one hit catchphrase wonders. They aren't main event material but a pair of good mid-carders though.

Some other quick ones that come to mind cause I just wanna get this over with, are:

Brock Lesnar vs. Vader

Sheamus vs. Sycho Sid

Eddie Guerrerro vs. Alberto Del Rio

Bret Hart vs. Chris Jericho

Rhino vs. Ryback

Mike Awesome vs. Cactus Jack

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Taka Michinoku

X-Pac vs. John Morrison

Wade Barrett vs. Jake Roberts

Chris Kanyon vs. Nova

Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin

Rob Van Dam & Sabu vs. Edge & Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz - TLC

Dean Malenko vs. Lance Storm

Perry Saturn vs. Alex Wright

Low Ki vs. Tajiri
