Exclusing Interview

Becky Serra stands in front of a large black couch within a spotless living room, her face beaming with delight. She stares into a camera which is closely framed to her; a smile covers her face ear to ear. With anticipation and excitement, she takes a big breath before speaking.

I’m WZCW’s Becky Serra and I’m both honored and delighted to bring you this exciting and exclusive interview to WZCW.com Beside me is a man who many of you know has been absent from the WZCW ring for quite sometime. In fact, his last appearance was nine months ago and WZCW’s biggest Pay-Per View event of the year Kingdom Come II. He is a future hall of famer, and some say he is the last of a dying breed of old school wrestlers. He is, of course, Rush.

Becky takes a seat on one end of the couch as the camera zooms out exposing the entire couch and Rush sitting at the other end with a smile, mirroring Becky’s excitement.

Rush, it’s so great to see you, how have you been since you’ve last appeared on WZCW television?

I’ve been doing very well Becky, continuing to make progress day by day.

Progress? I imagine that would have to play into what happened at Kingdom Come II during your match with Blade. That match was the last time anyone has seen or heard from you. Walk us through that match, what exactly happened?

Of course, Becky. Well as many of you know, leading up to Kingdom Come I was in a position to enter myself into the King for a Day Chamber Match. I was one victory away for securing a spot in the match, only to have Blade get involved in a matter that didn’t concern him.

But as they say Becky, when a door closes, a window opens. I would be given the opportunity by both Chuck Miles and Vance Bateman to appear at Kingdome Come and add another victory to my impressive two wins over Blade.

But that didn’t happen. Some say that due to your dominance throughout the match with Blade that you had the win all but secured. You were even able to connect with the Rushing Powerbomb, but in the end it was Blade that was able to pin your shoulders to the mat for the first time. What happened?

To be honest Becky, it is mostly a blur to me. What I do know from reviewing the match myself is that shortly after the start of the match, I began to experience nausea and a shortness of breath, which unfortunately I often do during a match. It’s one of the side effects that accompany men at my age, so I thought very little of it.

As the match progressed, there was an increase shortness of breath, as well as pain began to radiate all along the left side of my body, my neck, jaw, and arm all went numb with pain.
I tried to fight though it. I knew that if I could just hit Blade with my finisher, I would be able to walk to the back, get some oxygen and get past this whole thing.

As soon as I drove Blade into the mat with the Rushing Powerbomb, I experienced an excruciating pain within my chest. My chest felt like it was full of pressure and it was being squeezed in a giant vice-grips. I went light headed, before everything went black. I woke up a day later strapped into a hospital gurney.

That sounds a lot like you were having a heart attack to me.

That’s exactly what it was Becky. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was having a myocardial infraction, which is just doctor jargon for heart attack.

After the match, I was rushed, excuse the pun, to the nearest hospital and was given an emergency coronary artery bypass surgery. The whole procedure is an extensive surgery that required my chest to be opened and my heart to be stopped temporarily. A blood vessel was taken from an artery in my leg and then used to create an alternate pathway of for blood.

How’s your health doing now since you had the surgery?

Much better, Becky. I’m 54 years old and don’t feel a day over 53. It has been a long process, my doctor has been happy with the results and I feel good. I’m currently on a new healthier diet and as of lately slowly getting into a very light workout routine to try and get back into the shape I once was.

I’m very glad to hear it. As we both know, a heart attack is serious business. And open bypass surgery is no joke either. How does your medical condition affect your wrestling career? Can we expect to see Rush back in the squared circle?

A somber look flashes over Rush’s face. His body slumps forward and his eyes shift to the floor. He pauses. Rush slowly lifts his head up and looks back at Becky, with disappointment in his eyes.

To be completely honest with you, I have been strongly advised to retire from professional wrestling.

Everyone in the room sits in silence at the words that have just escaped Rush.

Rush, I have to now ask. Is that you official announcement of your retirement?

Rush stares at Becky, contemplating.

You know Becky, so much has happened to both me and my body in the past nine months that it’s a lot to take in. One good thing that has come out of this is that I have been provided with a lot of time to think. To think about my career, and everything that I have managed to accomplish so far, and you know Becky, I am happy with the stamp that I have placed on the world of professional wrestling.

I think when people look back on my career, and everything that I have done, and everything I have put my body through for this business, I think they will have nothing but good words. I have been lucky enough to have accomplished nearly everything that can be done with this career.

So, this is your final goodbye to all of your wrestling fans?

Becky, I said that I have accomplished NEARLY everything that can be done in pro-wrestling. There is still one big goal of mine that needs to be crossed off of my bucket list before I will allow myself to retire from wrestling. And until I can say that I have accomplished EVERYTHING that there is to accomplish, I will stay an active member of the WZCW roster.

And what exactly is left for you to do in your career? You’ve been a professional wrestler for just over thirty-five years now. You’ve travelled the all over the world wrestling; you’ve won countless number of titles. You have given a lot to the world of wrestling. What else is there?

Despite my title history, there is always been one title that has been constantly out of my reach, and I have every intentions of claiming it before I walk away from everything.

A determined Rush looks away from Becky and directly into the camera. The intensity that he is well known for flashes in his eyes.

The World Heavyweight Championship.

I want to make an official announcement. It is still unclear as to when I will return to step through the ropes and into the ring. But I am putting the WZCW World Heavyweight Champion, whoever that may be at the time, on notice. Once I am back, I have one thing to take care off first, but once I am done that, I am coming for you, and the title.

And the other thing that will be able to stop me…will death himself.

Rush, before we go. You mentioned that before you go for the World Heavyweight Championship, you had one thing that you needed to tend to. What exactly did you mean by that?

That’s easy Becky. The very first thing that I plan on doing once I am able to return. Is leave Blade lying in the middle of the ring, nearly dead, much like he did to me nine months ago at Kingdom Come.
