People Like Me, We Don't Play
Has Anyone Ever Been There? I ask becasue I'm going on holiday on Tuesday and don't knwo very much about it other than it's flag is black, blue & white (I think) and it's close to Russia. Anyone got any facts I could use?

Off the top of my head...

Its capital is Tallinn

Geographically, it has coastline on the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Finland and the Gulf of Riga and is bordered by Latvia to the south and Russia to the east.

Historically, it was home to the Livonian Order, a quasi-religious military sect like the Templars and Hospitallers. With the Teutonic Knights, it fought in the Papal-authorised Northern Crusade to bring Christianity to the pagan Prussians of northern Poland and the Lithuanians.

It was later annexed by the Russian Empire but became an independent country under the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk that saw Soviet Russia surrender to the Germans in the First World War.

Estonia lost this new found independence at the beginning of the Second World War as Stalin annexed the Baltic states at around the same time he partitioned Poland with Hitler. It was occupied by the Germans during Operation: Barbarossa only to retaken by the Soviets in 1943-44.

I've got family from Lithuania and all they do is bitch about the how the Russians (and Germans) fucked them over (Along with the other Baltic states of course). I've heard some real horror stories growing up...

I've been to Lithuania and a workmate is from Latvia, basically one of the main things to note is summer time in the Baltics states, it gets VERY hot. You'll find the police is corrupt in those countries too, they hide behind bushes by the highway waiting to pick off anyone at hand, even if they're speeding or not.

And given they hold this in Lithuania, I can image Estonia has this too, apparently when it comes to purchasing items from certain stores or even market stands, if they know you speak a word of English and are a tourist, they will raise the price of their items. Is anyone of your family able to speak Estonian or Russian?

...I'm okay with this.

Wait, is she what everyone else would call gorgeous, or what you alone call gorgeous?

Thanks Барбоса for the facts. I appreciate it. Thanks to everyone else who posted useful facts before this turned into a lovers spat :disappointed:

I've been to Estonia. Its quite nice, the buildings are all realy colourful medieval ones, and there's something good on top of a hill. When I went there it was about minus 15C, so I had a hot wine, which was very nice.

It sounds like a place in The Flintstones.
