Eli Cottonwood: Another next Diesel?

Savion83

Pre-Show Stalwart
NXT rookie the 7'1" Eli Cottonwood who is mentored by John Morrison. Is a spitting image of former WWF/E superstar Kevin Nash aka "big daddy cool" Diesel. With his ring attire which is a pair of leather biker pants, with Cotton wood already being over seven feet tall! All he would need is a leather vest and a pair of shades and YEAH.

The WWE tried the whole "Diesel 2.0" thing before just over ten years ago during the atittude era with the late Andrew Martin aka Test. It got to a point in where Test had to put on a headline on his old website that he was infact NOT the "new Diesel". It was just a BIG conicedence.

Now if Eli Cottonwood were to win season two of NXT (or stay around after season two is over)? Could Cottonwood get over with the Diesel bodyguard/insurence policy gimmick? With that being said John Morrison is Cottonwood's NXT pro. They could be a new era "HBK & Diesel"??

I really don't see the guy getting over. I might be wrong but I just don't see the fans investing into Eli.

Vince has always been high on big guys so i might be wrong, but from what I've seen, I don't like the path they are going with him.

I agree with this. I don't see Eli as the next Diesel, but more like the next Khali. He dose not seem to have the same smooth style that Nash had. More of the awkward style like Khali. The way he moves in the ring just don't appeal to me.

With him being tall as all hell I'm sure he will be kept around for awhile, maybe to feud with Rey or Big Show.

Actually, as soon as they brought this guy out with John Morrison I immediately thought "Oh look, It's Shawn and Diesel !". I definitely see what you are talking about in the resemblance to Kevin Nash and how he is just this big brooding bad-ass and it would work perfect for the relationship with JoMo to develop into a Diesel-Shawn like situation.

I read somewhere that this Cottonwood is actually a really good big man and has been really impressive on the indy circuit, so he might turn out to be as coordinated as Nash was too. I saw that someone earlier responded and said he reminded them more of Khali than Nash which I understand fully as well which is why I mentioned that people have said how good he is. He does look awkward and uncoordinated like Khali but if I remember watching him in one of the NXT matches correctly I thought he moved around there pretty nicely and looked like a solid big man.

I personally like this guy a lot, and he prospect of a Shawn-Diesel situation. That could be just the thing to launch both of these guys.

Exactley, when I saw Cottonwood, I didnt think, "Oh, there goes a big guy who can move!" I thought, "Oh great, another Great Khali." Now, I'm not a fan of Kevin Nash, but for a big man, Diesel could move. This guy Cottonwood is more in the mold of a Great Khali or a Kurgan, in fact I can see them (when Khali is gone) having this Cottonwood kid start yelling gibberish in the middle of his matches and in his promos.

I just saw Eli Cottonwood get down last night on NXT against Kaval. And outside of the match-up between the two with the size diffrence, Cottonwood is a little quck on his feet. And can carry a match. Even though these guys on NXT are on TV week each, these guys are still fresh outta FCW. So I'd take some time for Eli to really find his groove in the ring.

But when Eli Cottonwood does come around to be the killer that we all know he can be? Watch! Another Diesel/Kevin Nash before are eyes! And that reverse chokeslam finisher was just fatal looking last night, WOW!

honestly, unless they brought back HBK to manage them, i can't see this getting of the ground, JoMo even though i'm high on the guy, does not have the momentum to carry cottonwood up, so no

I'm sorry, but Eli Cottonwood doesn't have a quarter of the talent Kevin Nash did. Nash was decent in every area of his game.

He wasn't great on the mic in the WWF, that came more so in WCW. But, I believe Eli Cottonwood to be the worst talker of this entire (remaining) group. The guy sounds like he has no clue where he is. To be honest, his promos remind me more of The Ultimate Warrior than Kevin Nash.

The one place where Cottonwood is close to Nash...he still is worlds apart. He's tall..that's where this comparison ends. Nash is a good lookin' dude (yes, I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to make that comment). Eli Cottonwood...is not. He looks like a tall, skinny child rapist. I think he might be the ugliest man in the business today, and that's saying a lot. He has zero natural charisma, and he doesn't seem very likable.

In the ring, I have seen nothing impressive about this guy. I think he's the worst in-ring guy left on NXT. I'm not saying he can't wrestle, but he hasn't shown me he can either. Diesel was far more agile than people seem to give him credit for. Also, Nash put on some really good matches as Diesel, against guys like HBK, Bret Hart, The Undertaker and Razor Ramon. Cottonwood has done nothing.

He's tall. That is the only thing, IMO, that I can see him having in common with Kevin Nash.

Just because the guy is tall and wears leather pants doesn't make him the next Diesel. People are really quick to draw comparisons between wrestlers for very superficial reasons and, at least in my opinion, this is another case of that.

Abso-fucking-lutely not. Even when Kevin Nash was putting around Atlanta as fuckin' Vinnie Vegas he had more talent and charisma than this Eli Cottonwood kid has, and Vinnie Vegas sucked. Like, really badly. This Cottonwood kid is so bad that he's actually become an embarrassment to the WWE, as clips of his "promos" from NXT have been used twice now on The Soup, just another cartoonish stupid baffoon to make wrestling look bad.

Who knows if he can wrestle, I don't really care, he's got a terrible look, he's atrocious on the microphone, and there are a thousand more talented guys who deserve that spot over him. The sooner Eli Cottonwood is back in Florida, the better. Or even better yet, the unemployment line.

Cottonwood is another 7 foot tall giant that can't do anything in the ring. I understand the guy is green, but he is clumsy and has a terrible look even worse then his mic skills. The guy just comes off as awkward and more of a joke then a threat like the Shockmaster. During the obstacle course the guy tripped and was laughing about it. Isn't this guy supposed to be a monster heel? Who is going to be scared of this guy? I can't blame him about the mustache promo because who the hell can make a good promo about a mustache? but still his promos are terrible.

This guy is another Great Khali in my book. He isn't overweight and has some body tone, but the guy just comes off as clumsy instead of threatening.

i agree 100% i think he will be next eliminated, he has no real presence about him even khali has that, if i was vince id fire him immediantly because their is no way he could have a great career but you never know as when sheamus first came people thought hed be nothing more than a tag champ and look at him now

Eli Cottonwood is useless in every way. He isn't interesting in the least bit. He is probably the closest thing to Khali, you know minus the whole huge push thing. He can't work at all, he's absolutely abysmal in the ring. I would say out of all the NXT season two rookies, he is by far the most shit, in ring competitor they have on the show. His mic work is as awkward as it gets. He just doesn't make any sense when he opens his mouth. The words may be coming out, but he isn't piecing them together or trying to make any logical sense in what he is saying.

The guy is an all around terrible big oaf, who lumbers around the ring. He tries to get the job done but he is as green as grass and is about as useful in the ring as The Great Khali. As a "monster" heel, he does not come off the least bit scary. Cottonwood does succeed at being an awkward, bumbling fool who just comes off like he should never compete in a wrestling ring every time I see him. There is no comparison here, Kevin Nash is in a million different leagues to this buffoon. Nash has been successful in his career, Cottonwood will be lucky to have a job after this season of NXT.
