Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit, Who Was The Better & More Successful Wrestler?

Both Eddie and benwa has given us thier best in wrestling. They gave us some great moments and matches which still remains in our memories.. But who was more greater out of them. Who was more over and more successful..Your opinions..

Chris Benwa, I think I went to school with him. Bit of a cunt from what I remember.

Guerrero was an all round top talent. Though he wasn't one of the all time greats like his death has made him out to be. Still, he was better than Benwa.

In terms of popularity and the all around package it is Eddie Guerrero. Once he found Latino Heat he really hit his stride. He knew how to get toxic heat as a heel and by 2004 his popularity as a babyface was through the roof. Of course he could also work in the ring and work a mic.

However, I always preferred Chris Benoit. I think his mic skills are underrated, and he never needed to cut a crazy promo to get over. This man was wildly over in WCW and consistently an upper mid card guy from his first day in the WWF, based off his intensity and ring work alone. Heel Benoit, loosely aligned with Triple H in 2000, didn't look out of place in the main event scene with The Rock and The Undertaker. In 2001, he was the de-facto #1 babyface in the company and his work with Steve Austin and Jericho was great.

He earned and deserved his push in 2004. The fans were behind him when he won the Rumble, and making Triple H tap out at WMXX was basically unthinkable at the time. It was a huge mark out moment for myself, and the majority of the WWE fans. His run with the title wasn't ground breaking, but it was still great. This man (in the ring) is defined as ruthless aggression. He didn't need to rely on mic skills to get over, but instead did it by putting on the best match of the night, every night. I won't comment on anything he did outside of the business.

Better career (up until the murders obviously) would have to go to Benoit surely? He held the WCW Title and the Raw brand world title when it was definitely being positioned as the number one title in the company. He also had a better run with the top strap than Eddie did.

Better wrestler comes down to what you prefer. Do you prefer mat based storytelling or a flashier style? I preferred Benoit in the ring but there's really not much between them in terms of skill, both were fantastic

Sometimes technical wrestling is done by numbers, like Bret hart and Benoit falls into this. Good skills but not always exciting

Eddie had more personality and was a better entertainer

If you are measuring in titles then Benoit wins but if the yardstick is the whole package then Eddie shades it

I would give the edge to Guerrero, solely based on charisma. I don't think either had an edge on the other, based on technical wrestling ability. But Eddie had a better connection with the audience, either heel or face and was a better main event attraction because he could insert himself into the storylines better.

Giving it to benoit hands down. He was truly the best damn technical wrestler in the world. Guerrero was comical i never really took him serious since he rarely got clean wins without cheating. I grew up watching both and benoit was. The better one his matches with lesnar and top guys wer e ppv. Quality. No disrespect to eddie he was good but when put next to benoit. Benoit was better....but thats my opinion

Their bodies of work and achievements are about equal I'd say, with Eddie being slightly ahead of Chris in the later years. Eddie was just much more of a likeable and relatable character and person, so the fans were behind Eddie more than they ever were behind Chris. Chris Benoit always had a severe handicap in the charisma department. He always reminded me the slightest bit of the Ringmaster (before he wrote history as one of the most charismatic characters the business had ever seen). Everyone liked him and respected him like few others, and his technical skills were arguably second to none, but personality wise there just wasn't much there.
Bottom line I'd have to give the nod to Eddie, even without the elephant in the room of all Benoit discussions. It's a character driven show and in that department Eddie, in the last couple of years of his career, was head and shoulders above Chris.

Benoit takes this for me. He was, and in my opinion, still is the best wrestler ever. His technical skills were above everyone, and I think his overall skills in the ring were better as well. He had such an intensity and general love for being in the ring that you couldn't not like him. He supposedly was hampered by mic skills, but if you go back and watch him in WWW, he was pretty darn good on the mic. Even his WWE time on the mic weren't as bad as some would have you believe. Sure, he wasn't an over the top character, but he didn't have to be. Benoit was a wrestler, he didn't need a gimmick to get over.

Eddie, in my opinion, while pretty good in the ring, never came close to Benoit's level. Eddie became more of a character, instead of an overall great wrestler. Most of his matches in WWE were setups for his Lie, Cheat, and Steal gimmick.

Also, it can't be denied that Benoit held more titles, both in WCW and WWE. This to me, symbolizes both companies having more faith in Benoit. The only thing I think can be said in Eddie's favor is that he was the WWE Champion, while Benoit was World Champion. Although as has been stated, the World Title at the time was positioned as the more important belt.

I respect what Eddie did, and I do think he was a great wrestler, however he wasn't as great as he was made out to be after his death. He was presented as being right up there with Flair and Michaels as one of the greatest of all time. That was not the truth at all. Eddie was good, but not at that level.

Most people though will say Eddie was better simply because of the events of Benoit's final days. But you can't deny what he did in the ring, and even WWE has realized this. They'll never promote or talk about him, but they can't deny or forget what he did in the ring and what he meant to wrestling. Like I said, Benoit is most definitely the greatest technical wrestler ever, and I think he was the best period.

If you look at title reigns, I think Benoit takes it.. Guererro was always better on the mic whether he was a heel or a face, but Benoit didn't really need to cut any promos as he always performed in the ring no matter what. I would tie is as one of the best, if not the best technical wrestler of the attitude era alongside Angle, they put on epic wrestling matches.

All-round entertainer has to go to Guererro.. To be honest, you can't really split the two, they were both really good at what they did.. I'll prove it.. Go back and watch Benoit vs Guererro for the vacant US title at Vengeance 2003.. what a great 20 min match, too bad the ending was ruined.

Technical wise i will give it to Benoit! That man could wrestle his ass off,and make anyone look good.. His epic battles with Bret Hart,i especially loved that owen hart tribute match in WCW,and against Angle,those matches are gold.. Eddie i give a slight edge overall simply because he was a better talker than Chris Benoit was.. Eddie was also an amazing performer and very gifted.. His one and only reign as WWE champion,was truly magic IMO.

Plus the feuds they had against one another. Simply amazing performers these two were

Quite simply, Guerrero was loved in way that Benoit wasn't. When Benoit won the World Title, it was like a "Good for him, he deserves it" moment. When Guerrero won the WWE title, people were marking the fuck out.

Benoit was awesome in the ring, for sure. But Guerrero was great in the ring while also having a lot of charisma and winning people's hearts with his antics. People liked Benoit while they loved Guerrero.

His final days aside, people remember Benoit for great matches. People remember Guerrero for great matches and great moments. For all the great matches Benoit had, he never had a moment that just left you feeling good or feeling stunned, apart from the end of Wrestlemania XX when he was hugging Guerrero.

I actually remember quite a few moments from Benoit's career. His Royal Rumble win after being the number 1 entry was a memorable moment, his return from neck injury and surgery was memorable, him winning the tag team titles in TCL was a feel good moment after what he went through, him winning the WWW Title and then giving up and leaving WCW was pretty stunning, the standing ovation he received after his match with Kurt Angle at Royal Rumble 2003, and more that I could name.

So to say he had no memorable moments apart from his matches and Wrestlemania 20 is not right. I actually remember more from Benoit than I do Eddie apart from his title win and the already mentioned Wrestlemania 20. Not to say that's all he had, but that's all I personally remember.

Like others have said Eddie was better overall but personally I liked Benoit's in-ring work more. His chops, submissions and intensity were awesome and it felt as if he was really hurting his opponents when he did his moves.

In terms of personality I could relate more to Benoit because I am a shy introvert or at least was when I grew up and Benoit came across to me as a quiet, shy, humble, sincere guy who simply walked to the ring without doing anything fancy and didn't talk much and preferred to do his talking in the ring. I am not really a huge fan of over the top, larger than life characters like Hulk Hogan or Undertaker and so I liked how realistic his gimmick was, it felt like Chris Benoit was just being himself rather than playing an on-screen character.

I'd say Benoit was the more successful career because he had more title reigns and won a Royal Rumble but Eddie was definitely the better superstar overall.

Great question! It's amazing how parallel their careers were. They both made their bones in the U.S. in ECW after being in Japan, Canada, and Mexico respectively. They both found moderate mid card success in WCW and reached the apex of their careers by becoming word champion in WWE, and they both died tragically before their time. The best part is that they did it together.

They were both so equal it's hard to say who was better... Obviously, Eddy had more charisma. They had their own styles, but I think Charisma and ring psychology puts Eddy slightly above Mr. Roboto...slightly.

I have to go with Eddie. While I enjoyed Benoit from a technical aspect, Eddie had the personality and ability to never put on a boring match. You knew what you were getting with Benoit. That's not always a bad thing though. His matches were always great. But Eddie's were just a little better because they were so unpredictable. His match with Angle at WM20 was just fantastic. Eddie's personality just gave his matches that edge over just the plain wrestling match which consistently made them more entertaining.

Just my opinion though.
