Now looking at the cards...what I don't get is that 2005 featured more originals, however 2006 had more of the extreme matches!!:wtf:

I have seen both ppv's (or else I would not have made the thread), and watching both of them, I am going to have to pick 2006...I know that 2005 was more original as all the wrestlers were in the original ECW in the 90's, but I think that was one of the reasons I didn't enjoy it...I liked the fact that 2006 featured WWE vs WWE and other WWE wrestlers on the card and also the matches IMO were all better in terms of wrestling and stories...I'm not taking anything away from 2005 because I believe it was PURE ECW!! but I found 2006 better than 2005...

What do you think??

I think 2005 was better. It was what the whole Pay Per View was all about, revolving around the ECW performers. Not around the WWE, the ECW performers got allowed to do their thing that night, they got to give them a show that reminded them of the old ECW.

2006 had involvements from WWE guys that never even worked for ECW. It didn't make sense for them to be involved in what ECW was all about at a Pay Per View for them.

I loved all of the unscripted promos that were performed that night, and the small hatred kind of thing going on. It was entertaining to watch, as well as it had some good matches just as well as 2006.

But just because of the involvement of WWE guys in 2006, it ruined it all for me. And that is why I choose 2005.

I'm not sure how anyone couldn't say 2005.

Look, just because it didn't have "extreme matches" didn't mean it didn't define ECW. As a matter of fact, the 2005 was far closer to the original program than the 2006 Version. The 2006 version may have had the better moment with RVD winning the title, but 2005 was filled with the better wrestling matches, and the more like ECW than anything else.

For the record...

I liked the fact that 2006 featured WWE vs WWE and other WWE wrestlers on the card and also the matches IMO were all better in terms of wrestling and stories

If you like it as a WWE event more, that's ok. But 2005 was far more an ECW event, and trying to compare the two just doesn't work, if you're looking at one like an ECW event, and the other a WWE event. 2005 was far closer to the original, and the much better send off, really

2006. No doubt. Extreme tag match edge goes to the tag match in 2006. Just far funner for my money. Made me cringe a few times too. Not only that, but it had the best Angle vs. Orton match and the highly memorable RVD vs. Cena encounter. Sabu vs. Mysterio was also a genuine MOTYC for my money. The other matches were solid to boot. Fine stuff.

But where 2006 gains the most is where 2005 lost points. 2006 didn't have a Benoit-Eddie match get murdered by people chanting at the WWE guys, and you didn't have JBL openly mocking everyone's work. That killed most of the show for me.

I think if you were an original ECW fan, you would say 2005, because it was more of an authentic ECW card. It lived up to the name of "ECW One Night Stand". 2006 felt co-opted by the WWE. Really, why was Orton vs Angle on that card? 2006 had the great moment of the crowd reaction to Cena, and it may be more memorable to WWE fans, but I'd say 2005 was better because it was more of an ECW event.

I think that Last Night Stand 2005 was better for one simple reason, it was original and new. It made us remember how great ECW was in it's heyday and how much we missed extreme rules. Some of the matches on the card were really good, and I enjoyed that PPV very much. '06 was not bad, but I just didn't think that it was as good as '05... personal preference I guess.

Going by quality matches alone, I'd say 2005, but if we're going to true OMG moments, 2006 would take the cake (where, I don't know).

Two matches in 2006 stand among the best in the decade, IMO — Sabu vs. Rey, RVD vs. Cena.

Sabu vs. Rey had so many brutal moments, including the final triple-jump DDT from Sabu to Rey through a table at ringside. I actually thought Rey broke his neck. I wouldn't put it past Sabu to completely botch something like that either.

RVD vs. Cena had one of the greatest crowd reactions I've ever heard throughout the match. Even though I got out of watching wrestling for a while during the mid 2000s, I caught it on YouTube and 'Wow,' that is all I can say.

For me it was 2005. Not because of the matches (although there were some quality scraps) or anything like that. It was simply because I didn't expect it. By that I mean I never thought WWE would let Paul Heyman book an ECW PPV the old ECW way. It was so authentic that it shocked me something rotten (unlike most wrestling PPV's do) I also found JBL to be funny as fuck being drunk. The fact that a WWE financed event had the audience doing Sandman's song is still something I show non wrestling fans because it was so cool.

The one thing I did like about 06 was Cena. He dealt with the crowds hatred so well and played along brilliantly. It brought a new level of respect for the man (from me at least)

To me it's 2005. 2006 was an enjoyable PPV with several good matches (That Six Person Tag Match is GREAT) but to me the concept of the 'One Night Stand' fits the 2005 PPV. It after-all was intended to be a 'One Night Stand'. They feel was there, you had more of the old school ECW guys on the card. Guys like Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, The WHOLE of the FBI, Bill Alfonso, Even Joel Gertner made it to the show. It was more of the old ECW Feel to it. Watch the Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome match, it pretty much sums up the event.

2006 was more about the re-launch of the new era of ECW while using it's past. It was a solid card but it didn't create the feel of the 05' PPV. In 05' the concept was also fresher, for one, ECW hadn't had a reunion show yet and this was the first time the fans of the original ECW got to say goodbye to the promotion. That's why I voted for 2005 over 2006.

I"m going with 2005. It was relly the ONLY One Night Stand, IMO. 2006 might have been a better PPV in general, but not better as an ECW ppv. Too many WWE guys. Edge, Lita, Randy Orton, Kurt Angle...not a One Night Stand. RVD's win was the highlght of the show along with the reception Cena got lol. Prob as close to what you'd see had he walked into the ECW Arena back in the day...but back then he'd get shanked...by New Jack...
Back on topic... I thought the 05 ONS just felt more like ECW. the AWesome-Tanaka match is still one of my favorites.

2005 felt more like an ECW thing, 2006 felt like a WWE thing featuring ECW guys. I have to say for that reason i enjoyed 2005 more. It had the feel of ECW and the Heyman promo was awesome.

It all depends on what you wanna see really. If you wanna go nostalgic and remember what the old ECW was about, truly was about; watch 05. If you want to see some good matches, watch 05. Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka was insane. The Dudleys vs. Sandman & Dreamer was too. If you want more extreme, hardcore shit; watch 06. There was more blood, more risks, more high flying, etc. That isn't what ECW was all about really, but nonetheless what the majority of people remember them for.

I would go with 2005 too like most of the people that have posted on this thread. While I'll admit that 2006 had the more extreme matches, 2005 just had the true feeling of an ECW show. It wasn't about fighting the WWE guys more than just wrestling one last time for the promotion that gave them a chance. The promos that were given that night too symbolized the meaning of ECW for those guys.

2005 all the way. While 2006 had some fantastic monents- seeing RVD finally win the big one, the famous crowd reaction during the match, The Foley/Funk tag match, it was not a real "ECW" event, due to the WWE stars wrestling.

2005 was the 1st ECW reunion, it had almost all the original stars- Dreamer, Sabu, Rhino, Sandman, Credible, Awesome, Tanaka, Dudleyz etc and it just felt...BETTER somehow.

The Awesome v Tanaka match is up there with some of my all time favourite matches, it was great. As was Storm vs "Lionheart" Chris Jericho.

I loved the "shoot" promos from Heyman and Van Dam

But the main reason why 2005 was better...it had Joel Gertner!!

the card on the 06 show was much better for my money but the 05 show IMO was better because of the ecw originals being showcased where in 06 it was on its way to just being another wwe ppv and in 07 it proved it with the ecw being dropped completely.
