Dream Fights

Nome is where your heart is
I would not be surprised in the least if this thread has already been done but I haven't seen anything so here it goes.

We all have favorite fighters be it past or present. And I am sure most of us have wondered what if our favorite fighters of yesteryear and today got together in their primes and went to war. At the very least I know I have.

For me I was thinking about this for awhile and I think their are two fights I would love to see, even if they were massive busts. The first fight would be Pat Miletich facing B.J. Penn. Both men have been or were dominating as hell. Miletich was a monster in the early days of the UFC and left the company as the champion of the Welterweight division though he was really a Lightweight. It would be interesting to see how Pat would take a fight with Penn, if Pat would use his wrestling or would it be completely irrelevant.

The other fight I would love to see is a fight between Bas Rutten and Brock Lesnar. Both men are powerhouses who would go to war, no doubt. I would actually have to give Rutten the advantage because he was incredible dominate in his time, he just had to many injuries. Once again it would be very interesting to see how Lesnar came into this fight. If he would want to trade punches or take the fight to the ground right away, or if he could even get Rutten to the ground.

What are some dream fights you would like to see?

First and foremost, Brock LEsnar versus Fedor, so that that question can finally be put to rest. Fedor is on tops of the charts for the best fighter in the world, LEsnar has only bee in the sport for a while now, but has a huge following. If both of these two men faught, the event could sell two million buyrates, I am sure of it. The fight itself would actually be a little boring I think, a lot of hugging on the ground. It would have to be after Lesnar recovered. But as it stands, I Have watched all of their fights now, nearly 40 together, and would love to see this happen.

One match in mind Brock Lesnar VS Bobby Lashley.

Both these guys are Wrestlers turned MMA Stars and have been successful in the sport thus far, the reason this is a dream fight is because they are both former pro wrestlers in the WWE and it makes me want to see which one of them is the better fighter, it's just something worth seeing in my opinion and would be something special as well just because of there background in pro wrestling.

Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko is something I would definitely pay to see. However, for some reason, I've always wanted to see Fedor vs. Frank Mir more than that. I think Mir, especially today with his improved striking, stands more of a chance at dethroning Fedor than anyone. He's just too big, and too damn good on the ground. And like I said, today with his improved striking... the guy just has all the tools to beat someone like Fedor. Lesnar, on the other hand, does not.

Back in 2005 if you asked me this question, my first answer would have actually been CroCop vs. Andrei Arlovski. Funny how times have changed, huh?

But let's see, who from today would I like to see fight each other... Nick Diaz vs. BJ Penn at 170 I think would end up being one of the greatest, most exciting fights of all time. I would DEFINITELY love to see that.

Tito Ortiz of 2001 vs. Chael Sonnen of today is something I'd jizz myself over if it happened, for two reasons. One, because the shit talking leading up to the fight would be the greatest thing ever. And 2, it would just be an absolute joy to see Tito face that prick's face in and then hear Marquis cry about it.

And I'm trying to think of another striker who could hang in there with the Anderson Silva of today and put on a show, but no one comes to mind. Anderson is just in a league of his own. It's unbelievable.

Shit, this is a great topic that I've danced with many times on Sherdog.

Frank Shamrock vs. Kazushi Sakuraba -
Two perennial technicians who at one time ruled the sport and have a solid mix of standup and ground fighting. They've both declined at a nearly identical rate and I think it'd still make a hell of a fight, and definitely one that should've taken place when it was relevant.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Mirko Filipovic -
Both guys have a solid striking background and I would've loved to have seen this circa 2005 when Mirko was at his peak. Hell, I'd still watch it today and it irritates the hell out of me that they didn't make this fight when both were in the UFC.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Ricco Rodriguez -
This would've been circa 2002 before Ricco's decline. I think it would've been close, but in the end it would've played out much like the Fedor/Nog fights.

Junior Dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem -
This isn't going to the ground unless Overeem gets desperate and starts fishing for his guillotine.

GSP VS. Anderson Silva

GSP is quite big as a welterweight and this fight has money written all over it. Just thinking about all the hype it will get gives me goosebumps all over. It's no damn secret that these two men have been the most dominating fighters in their respective weight classes and both have earned the right to be called one of the best pound per pound fighters in the world. Having this fight will truly test out who exactly is better.

BJ Penn VS. GSP 3

Ya, I know they fought not much long ago, but I'm talking about the BJ of RIGHT NOW VS. GSP. Anybody can see that BJ has improved drastically since their last fight. With his new training and attitude, BJ has been on top ever since. There is no lightweight even close enough to dethrone him. I would love too see BJ get his 3rd chance to prove that he can beat GSP.

Chuck Liddell VS. Forrest Griffen

To me this fight would just be all kinds of fun. Both men are have so many fans that love and adore them and this fight can probably draw enough to be one of UFC's top PPVS. Hell, it doesn't even matter if it's the dominating Iceman of the past or the Iceman of today. Liddell just draws and so does Forrest. The amount of passion put in that fight will be too awesome.

Anderson Silva vs. Lyoto Machida

That would be a hell of a fight! These guys are two of the top fighters in the business. Not to mention how fun they are to watch! If they ever fight each other, they should let it go ten rounds.

Lashley vs Lesnar

First of all, enough of that Black Lesnar shit! Secondly, who wouldn't wanna see this fight? Pro wrestling fans would be all over it, and I'm sure most hardcore MMA/non wrestling fans would wanna see Brock dominate Lashley! So, Lashley, would have that underdog thing going for him! Plus, if it was co-promoted as Strikeforce vs UFC, that would make it even better!
