Can someone from England please tell me what this show is about. I've been watching it on BBC America the last few days and am completely confused.

Whilst it is shit, I have a vague understanding.

The Doctor is able to travel in time, and he takes an assistant around with him. He solves various problems in each time period he travels too, usually involving thwarting some aliens.

My parents love it. If I want to watch TV I have no choice but to watch it with them

it was originally a 1960s kids TV show, just read wikipedia, isn't that what you normally do?
