Where did Everton get the money from? They may regret this signing, they now have to win something/make top 4 I dont see them making top 4 without spending more cash on other players but I cant see where they'll get the money for more players

New TV money. Sunderland were willing to pay 14m for Borrini lol.

Still think Everton overpaid by 6-8m for Lukaku though. I see him more in the range of 20m-22m. But then again in a league where Luke Shaw goes for 30m with much higher wages, Lukaku's deal can be argued as being reasonable.

On Chelsea: Playing with fire. Torres looks to be on his way sooner rather than later too, which leaves them with two strikers and a few of wingers/blokes who play off the front man. Should've kept Eto'o.

On the Transfer Market: The inflation is mad. It was mad three years ago when Chelsea spent £50 Million on Torres and Liverpool spent £35 Million on Carroll and it's even worse now. Absolutley rid-onk-ulous.

At Uni on Tuesday, my lecturer (who isnt a football fan because he's true blue Australian and all that crap) couldnt understand how James Rodriguez could be worth the transfer fee, he's right in a way but with all the shirt sales he's made them, plus a hypothetical Champions league final winning goal and you could argue James would've pretty much paid back his transfer fee.

You forget to add that Real Madrid has near zero concerns about having massive amount of debt. Though they are more prudent in recent years (selling to buy) they still can spend ridiculous amount of money without worries.

Totally different from the inflation in the English Premier League which is a direct result of new TV money. Last place last season had similar amount of TV money to the winner in the previous season. Every team has an almost 30m more to spend.

His point was more towards being worth it as in the same way a CEO being paid millions and millions of dollars and not being worth it as some study found that anything over $270,000 for a CEO was wasted money

Ugg, so Alan Pardew is still pursuing Loic Remy like a lovestruck teenage girl. Let it go Alan, he's just not that into you.

Going through the thread I've dug up a couple of gems. First off:

All this chat about Belgian players makes me remember that over a year ago I put a bet on them to at least reach the last 8 of the World Cup in 2014.

How'd that work out for you Barbosa?

Found this from Tasty at the end of the 12/13 season. I've edited it for this upcoming season:

Longest serving Premier League manager league table come June 1:

1. Wenger
2. Pardew
3. Allardyce
4. Pearson
5. Rodgers
6. Lambert
7. Bruce
8. Dyche
9. Redknapp
10. Hughes
11. Mourinho
12. Martinez
13. Pellegrini
14. Poyet
15. Pulis
16. Monk
17. Van Gaal
18. Pochettino
19. Irvine
20. Koeman

Wenger's been at Arsenal for 18 years this season. Pardew's been at Newcastle for 4 years and that's the second best. 10-20 have all been there a season or less with the bottom seven being at their clubs less than a year. Including Mel, Sherwood and Pochettino's departures, there were 16 changes last time round. Mind-boggling. Under/over on amount of managerial changes this season?

Lukaku cost 28 mil? That's a bargain relative to Torres and Carroll.

Lukaku has scored 32 goals in 76 Premier League games, Torres had scored 65 in 102 when Chelsea bought him and they were relying on him being shit because Liverpool were shit, and not because he was finished. It's only in hindsight that that seems so utterly crap business.

Carroll is part of that whole English premium bollocks.

I know, no one could've predicted Torres flopping as badly as he did. But I think Lukaku has a chip on his shoulder that'll make him do well.

No, I had torres down to be a waste of money and as soon as he missed at Old trafford i knew i was right, he was in dreadful form. How any could justify that amount of money is beyond me.

I believe that Financial Fair Play is hurting more than helping. Firstly its the reason transfers are so expensive becuase teams want to be able to splash the cash on one or two signings. Secondly, the big boys are just getting gigantic sponsorship deals so they can do whatever the fuck they want. Just look at Man United they've signed two gigantic sponsorship deals with Chevy and Adidas, the latter of which was worth over a billion dollars.

Financial Fair Play is an attempt to keep the status quo so that sugar daddies can't prop up clubs like PSG, Monaco, Chelsea and Citeh to compete at the elite level in a short amount of time. Can't share too much of the pie with anybody. But then again it also helps to prevent cases like Malaga where everything went bonkers. How is it the reason transfers are so expensive? It is the influx of new TV deals + inflation that is the real cause. I think the bubble will burst soon though since more and more viewers are fed up with the increasing costs to watch football.

Clubs now need to find ways to balance out the books so they sell players for more than they are worth because they have to pay more for players.

Its also not equalling out the sport as the big teams are able to get better sponsorship deals than what the smaller clubs are

Carroll is part of that whole English premium bollocks.

On paper they bought a 21/22 year old striker who looked like being an England regular for the next 8 years. It was meant as a long-term investment & had he delivered like he can and stayed at Liverpool, eventually he'd have paid that price off easily because England Striker will easily get you a few million more in sponsorship each year.

So we signed a player today and he got an assist today. Can anyone else think of quick signings to goals/assists? As in signed that day and played?

Gervinho scored two goals on his Arsenal debut. Of course, we all know how that ended up...

It wouldn't surprise me if Dieter Hamaan was in that boat or Edgar Davids. Both seem the sort to have done that.
