Although we all knew ECW was the red-headed stepchild of WWE programming during its time (I personally think Vince neutered it the way he did because he was sick of the "ECW" chants and wanted to find a way to erase people's perception of what made the original ECW so great), despite that, I enjoyed ECW. I equated it to what some old friends of mine said about how they enjoyed college sports instead of professional sports, because the college players had more desire and were hungrier. That's how I felt about the ECW roster, that they were hungry and wanted to do the best they could. The matches Christian and Zack Ryder had were amazing! Those are among my fondest memories of the new ECW.
I liked what Tommy Dreamer said about it, how even though it wasn't the same old ECW we all knew and loved, it was still the same concept of taking nobodies and making them into somebodies. Look at Punk, Swagger, Sheamus, Miz, and Morrison, to name a few. I loved their concept of grooming new up-and-coming talent. I liked NXT at first, thought it was different and exciting... but if I knew it would become what it did, which is pretty much a joke now, I wish they would've kept ECW in that case. ECW has clearly done a better job of creating new stars, with Wade Barrett being pretty much the only exception to NXT's method of creating the next breakout star of WWE.
