Does a wrestler's name or catch phrase make a wrestler's career better?

Pre-Show Stalwart
Throughout history just about every wrestler that has hit super stardom has either had a cool nickname or catchphrase. My question is does it help make them the superstar's they are or, become?

HHH= The Game/Cerebral Assassin

HBK= Heartbreak Kid/ The Show Stopper

Rock= (catch phrase) Can you smell what the rock is cookin?

Dean Malenko= The man of a 1,000 hold's

Stone Cold Steve Austin= The Rattlesnake

Curt Hennig= Mr.Perfect

Randy Savage= The Macho Man

The list goes on and on and on, and it's interesting that nearly every superstar wrestler has had these cool catch phrase's or nicknames.

Do these names help cement them in history of the greatest ever because of their names are more Marketable..

Another instance is Chavo Guerrero is a excellant wrestler but really a complete nobody... There's nothing to make him memorable.

All of Nexus... nothing to make you remember them. Good wrestler's but nothing to remember.

Mr. Andersen.. I think he's a good wrestler, but who is he. Nothing catchy to remember him in 5 years.

Are there any other great performers that people can think of that never hit greatness, and didn't have a Awesome Catch Phrase, or a catchy NickName?

Or was there any with great NickNames, but never hit greatness..I' m not talking about bad gimmics either like Doink The Clown etc...

They play a role, absolutely, but it's the man behind the character who's most important to the success or failure of a performer.

That's not to say it's as marginal as I may be making it out to be, though — if Steve Austin was instead named Cletus McGuillicuty (smell my sarcasm?), I seriously doubt his success would have been as high as it was. I mean... can you imagine Trish Stratus as "Abagail Fingerloom"?

It's not the name. It's the talent.

Perfectly put.

The Rock, Austin, Triple H....they have the nicknames, the catchphrases and the most importantly the ABILITY and CHARISMA.

Just having a cool nickname is not enough. To be a star in this business you need to be able to back it up. Yes, Hogan and Cena have great catchphrases and nicknames but they have charisma in the ring, and can entertain the fans.

Guys like Chavo, Chris Masters, Kozlov etc, while they may be given a nickname or cool things to say by management, unless they can entertain the fans in the ring and get over....it doesnt matter

Like those above me have said. You can take anyone and slap them with a name. If the guy behind the name has the tools to take it to the top he will. If he doesn't then it will flop. A wrestler has to take his character and basically transform himself into that person when he/she is performing, and when they do that is when they truly MAKE a character into a superstar. But you have to have the talent to do so.
