I'd like to see Rock appear in WWE again but, personally, I've no real interest in seeing him wrestle.
I understand that The Rock is good for business, so I can't exactly blame WWE for bringing him back in the way they have. As Vince McMahon has always said, though he's been in character, "it's all about the money" and The Rock is able to help bring in a lot of it.
In spite of some of Rock's proclamations, however, I don't necessarily think that WWE is a major priority for him. WWE is a good, strong means of having The Rock feature himself, his charisma, personality, and to plug any & all upcoming film or television projects in front of a what is almost always among the largest audiences in all of cable television. But as far as Rock still being one of the boys or still a wrestler, I just don't see it. Just as WWE has done with him, Rock is simultaneously using WWE for his own ends. I'm not saying that to bash Rock or WWE, it's just simply how it is. That's how business works.
If Rock's condition was up to par, I think I'd feel differently. The Rock's in great shape when it comes to muscle mass & definition. However, it's clear that his main priority was to bulk up for GI Joe, Fast & Furious 6 and Hercules rather than getting into ring shape. From watching his matches with Punk & Cena this year, it's obvious that Rock's cardio condition & training is far less than it was during his match against Cena last year. I don't think they were bad matches, but I don't believe they were nearly as good as most were hoping or expecting. I will say, however, that Rock showed a lot of heart as he continued with his match against Cena despite muscle tears. At the same time, it's clear as day that both Punk & Cena had to slow things down quite a bit as Rock simply couldn't keep up.
I'm just kind of over the novelty of The Rock coming back to WWE and wrestling a couple of times a year, getting MASSIVE exposure that often takes away from promising guys on the roster. If, and believe me I'm saying IF, the various stories about Rock backstage are true, then he's definitely got an ego. I've read some reports a while back in which WWE was going back & forth with having Punk drop the title to him and, again if this is all true, Rock was said to be furious about not getting the title.
As I said though, The Rock is good for business and he's obviously someone that the VAST majority of fans find highly entertaining. That in and of itself justifies bringing him back if he's willing/able to come back to wrestle. As far as I'm concerned, however, I don't really want to see him wrestle anymore if he's simply not able to pull his own weight by being in the top notch cardio shape he should be in all because he's more concerned with preparing for a film role that requires a certain look.
