Do You Get This Feeling Too?

Have you ever watched wrestling with a non-wrestling fan? Of course you have. It's annoying as hell, especially to us marks. They're full of questions that are irrelevant. For instance, I like watching wrestling by myself, or with my cousin (because he's the only real "mark" I know). So let's say I'm watching Raw by myself, then my older cousin comes in (who doesn't watch wrestling) full of questions.

"Who's he?" "Where's Hulk Hogan?" "Stone Cold still wrestle?"

Then, of course, there's always the:

"He's not even hitting him" "You know this is fake right?" "This is all planned!"

No dip, I KNOW! I hate watching with non-watchers because you have to explain everything to them, and they make you feel like a doofus for being over the age of 12 and still watching wrestling. I also hate watching with "the casual fan", because us marks have to be careful what we say so that we don't spoil it.

So I just want to know, am I the only one who feels this way?

Here's the trick, wait until the wrestlings over then give them control of the remote. Whatever they pick, repeat the favour, ask about old characters or point the idiocy of soap operas or most dramas; point out how most comedies are rehashes of old shows etc.

Smart people will realise that the nit picking they do at what we love is just as easily transferred to their favourite programmes. If they don't see the irony, fuck 'em - you can have a good time at their expense... "What do you mean it's not real, he hit him with a chair! How do you fake hitting someone with a chair?" (you get the idea? :lmao:).

Yeah, it does get annoying when they ask those types of questions. Attitude Era fans who don't remember anyone but Stone Cold or The Rock and haven't watched in over a decade are probably the worst of all. They complain the whole time about how much it "sucks" now and how you're a wimp if you watch wrestling instead of UFC. Well, I happen to like both. Just tell them that, even if it's not true. It usually gets them to leave you alone. If they are being rude and it's your house, kick them out if they are being annoying. Of course you can't do that if you're somewhere else, just do your best to watch the show and ignore them in that situation.

As for casual fans that don't know what's going on in the business, I actually enjoy watching with them quite a bit because they rely on marks like us to get information they don't know about. They always ask me about everything that they don't know, if someone is getting a push or who I think will win matches. I'm always bombarded with questions at PPV parties and I enjoy every minute of it, although if someone is in the middle of a promo I tell them to shut up and that I'll answer in a moment when (wrestler name) is done talking. That's really the only annoying thing about casual fans, they won't stop talking or asking questions, even if an important promo is going on.

I have, and man, is it annoying! Let's rewind a couple of months ago. I told my friend (who doesn't know anything about pro wrestling but is a HUGE follower of anything Boston sports related (he usually doesn't follow any team BUT Boston. It's really sad.) that I was attending a RAW event at Boston. This was the night when CM Punk was suppose to "sign a contract" & he cut that amazing promo (WE WANT ICE CREAM!) about wanting his face on everything. My friend texted me after it went off the air, bombarding me with questions I couldn't even answer. His questions included:
"Why did Punk rip up the contract? Who's contract was it supposed to be? He looked really pissed!"

"Is John Cena really from around the Boston area? That's fucking awesome!"

"Dude, why would he call a Bostonian a New York Yankee? That can get you hurt around here!"

"Does Sting still wrestle? Why didn't he come out?"

I may have made the last one up, but you get the point. But as Dagger says (I'm sorry, I'm fairly new to this site.), it's kinda cool when they ask you a whole bunch of questions & predictions & all the work. But sometimes, it's kinda frustrating TRYING to tell them about the storyline & what just went on.

I love watching it with non fans who have an open mind. they make you realize just how much guys who aren't over suck and why they aren't over.

My girlfriend is who I usually watch. She doesn't like most of the net darlings. "Their stuff looks fake and contrived, they move too fast, it doesn't look like a struggle, it looks like a dance" which is kinda what I heard Terry Funk say once.

Not only that, but she's a psychology major, so she'll point things out. Like Kelly Kelly screaming a lot at Summerslam likely driggered a natural instinct for the men in the audience who liked her to feel even more sorry for her.

She doesn't like CM Punk, says he's a whiner who reminds her of the hot topic kids who sit outside music stores and bitch about mainstream music and people following trends when they themself, are following a trend.

She loves the Miz. I took her to a live event, he got the loudest reaction of the night on his promo. He came out to a decent reaction, but 4 or so minutes later, the place was going apeshit. She respected that and thinks he's a guy who really loves it.

She actually "gets it" more than most posters here because she comes in knowing it's fake so she doesn't care who has the belt. Although she is critical when it's not believable like Mysterio. She said "I hope they don't put the belt on the midget mexican jumping bean, that'd be embarrassing".

She calls Evan Bourne "Evan new Bourne" and usually cracks a joke "he's on kinda late, I wonder if his mom knows" or "I wonder if they had to check his work permit" or my favorite "he's just happy because his girlfriend got her braces off".

She IMMEDIATELY got why Nash screwing Punk is a good thing. We had watched a DVD about the Kliq or some shit, she said "I'm glad Punk didn't win, without someone holding him down he has nothing to say and Nash is one of HHH's buddies so it's perfect".

She likes ADR, says he looks like a kitty cat because the skin between his nose and lip is thick like a cat's whisker bed. Also makes jokes about Rodriguez announcing ADR as a winner anytime ADR does anything where he wins.

I guess you could say she started out as a non fan, but now she likes it and appreciates it. She's kind of artsy, but both her parents have business careers, and her being a psychology major I think really helps. She understands the artsy stuff, understands the business stuff, and understands the crowd psychology.

What's funny is that most of the time, non wrestling fans hate the net darlings. The net darlings are usually smaller guys who do a bunch of spots real fast. Most non fans will say "this guys' stuff looks super fake" then you come on here and hear nothing but "DID U SEE ALL THE KEWL MOVEZ!!!!" It's funny to me.

She actually "gets it" more than most posters here because she comes in knowing it's fake so she doesn't care who has the belt

But the things is it does matter who has the belt. Are you telling me she wouldn't care if Primo had the belt? The fact of the matter is it does matter who has the belt, if Primo had the belt then that would make the belt look crap and you don't want the belt to look crap assuming she/you mean the World Title. So don't say you girlfriend "gets it" more than most posters on this forum when what you said she thinks isn't correct.

Anyway yes I have watched wrestling with both a non wrestling fan and a casual fan and for me it is annoying. I like to get into the show and I can't when all threw the show I have someone pestering me with questions that have no relevance to the show or are obvious. I've also watched it with a "mark" and to be honest I like watching it by myself more, they also ask questions, good questions that are relevant and make you think but again I like to think about what I'm watching and take it in not having to answer questions.

I hate the ones that ask you the rules! Like a tag team comes on " Whats up with the people on the side". Or a FALLS COUNT ANY WHERE MATCH " Oh you can pin them on the floor!" OR the classic "you know this is fake" I have been in the business a year and a half DUH! Or when a non fan tells me again a year and a half in whats a botch and what isn't! Really!? Or " The Blood is fake, the chops are fake that forearm was fake" I say let me show you some people to tell that to! Or the ones during a cruiser weight match "whats the point of the flip I would just punch him in the face" ERRR DON'T GET ME STARTED! My room mates are non fans, Luckily I pay half the cable. lol

You uys are lucky. I get this from my parents. My dad laughs during ALL of the matches, even when I know it's a serious match. It drives me NUTS!!!! Back when CM Punk was recruting the New Nexus I was sitting there literally biting my fingers off (yes, I knew wrestling was fake but still, it was freaking me out- aren't they good actors??? :D ) and my dad walks right in front of the screen. His line? "Why are they beating him up? Isn't he on their team?"

DAD!!!!!!! MOVE!!!!!!!!

My brother also knows it's fake and he took me to that Smackdown where Big Show gave me the thumbs up (I'll explain another day- maybe) and he kind of did the same thing but he was complaining about not knowing anyone except Edge, Kane, Big Show and Chris Masters.

Ironicy, none of them are in the WWE currently.

But I get the "Oh why do you watch it, it's so freaking fake" all the time at school.

SAVE MEEEEEEEEEEE

What usually happens is that non-fans will walk by or come into the room while I'm watching it. They say annoying things like," this is fake", "I thought this "crap" was just for kids" or "why would someone subject themselves to this nonsense?" They're not open minded about it at all. I don't want their negative attitude spoiling my fun. So, I don't bother watching it with non-fans.

Whenever I'm watching with someone else, I'm usually listening to the commentators and thinking (Wow...no wonder why people who don't watch hate this stuff, they sound so cheesy) and the commentators do sound really cheesy to the outsiders. We're just used to it, but the things they say and how they say it...just turns a lot of people away.

yes it does get really annoying most of my friends dont watch wrestling and same with most of my family my sister will come in the room saying stuff like...

"change the channel you saw this one before!"
"you know its fake right?"
"this is stupid its all the same every week"
"your gay for wanting to watch guys wrestle around in their underwear"

it gets so annoying and i just tell people to shut the fuck up and do the same thing during their shows as payback! i know its fake but its called ENTERTAINMENT! seriously the people who dont get why people watch wrestling need to just stop asking questions to the fans its annoying

Lol, I totally feel that way!

There used to be these guys in my School Bus who used to watch wrestling, two years ago..

Now, if they hear anything about wrestling when I'm around, they go "Seriously, you watch that? It's so fake! FAKEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

And my reply is something along the of 'Now you know? 'Sides, it's entertainment..

I mean come on, how come ya'll drool over stupid movies/sitcoms and then there's a problem with wrestling?'

That, or the easy way - :flipa: <- Ofcourse, without the tongue out.

Atleast my close friends are Broad Minded. They USED to watch wrestling, a few still do and they've got no problem as such with wrestling. :)

But most of the people who used to be into it aren't now.

Cos they've "Grown up." Pah. :p

And One thing I love about my family is that we all watch wrestling. Except Dad.

But that's alright - Again, he's not the type to remind me it's Fake. Used to be a Huge fan of Stone Cold. :D
