Do You Believe In Recycling?

Calderownz

Brilliant Idiot
Do you think it has any long term effects either way? Do you feel that it's a waste of time?

Personally, I don't see it helping in the long run. I believe in caring for the environment, but I don't think that the recycling system we have in place is actually useful.

Your thoughts?

I recycle all the time. I have a blue bin, a green bin, a black bin and if they come out with anymore colours, I will literally kill someone.

Yea I get sick and tired of separating everything, but it's become such a habit I do it automatically. Besides we only get actual garbage pickup once every two weeks. They pick up the recycling every week, so if I don't want all the plastic and paper shit lying around, I have to do it.

It must be doing some good otherwise why would they even ask us to bother. If you believe in helping the environment then why wouldn't you do it? It's not really that much to ask. Why don't you visit your local recycling plant and see what they do with the stuff that they collect? Get back to me and let me know, because if I don't have to separate it then I won't.

Why don't you see it as useful? I ask because I usually find people who think that it isn't useful to just be too lazy to be a little organized.

Yes, I support recycling. It's fairly easy: paper in one bin, plastics and cans in another, and trash in the other one. I like the idea of a bottle being re-used as opposed to sitting around on the ground for years trying to decompose.

The more I post in this section the more I think I'm turning into a hippie.

I belive we should recycle as much as we can. Our planet is getting raped by the amount of waste people produce and if we can reduce that damage by even a little than we should be doing it.

However, I do agree with what the OP said about the recycling system we have in place not being all that useful. Not enough is done. For it to be useful than we need to progress to a point where everything is recycable or we can compost it.Than it will really make a difference. But there is still so much garbage out there being put in landfills that more needs to be done to be entirely effective.

But Calderownz, I think you should put the effort in. It's the least we can do.

This pretty much describes me. Except that I'm not the kind of person to not find it useful, I think recycling is a good idea, I just don't take the time to do it. Recycling is a good thing, all things considered, and is hardly a new concept. The problem I have is that so many recycled products are more expensive than regular products. What's the point of recycling if it's going to cost you more down the road?

Yes sir I do "believe" in recycling. It is a way to educate people and probably one of the best ways to educate them too.

The only problem I have with this is that in the name of recycling, people cotinue to use and use and use and use and use plastic. They think because they recycled then the job is done. And they keep using cars, lights always on etc...

Not particularly, there are way too many rules on it, and up until recently both my green and black bin were collected and put into the same dump truck anyway, so I'm not going to waste my time sorting everything out and washing out milk cartons. Lazy? Yeah maybe, but my life is busy enough without worrying about what bin the beans tin can go in, and whether this type of plastic is recyclable.

Also, while waste from the kitchen and living room may be easier to sort into 2 bins, I'm not having 2 separate bins in all the bedrooms in my house, or running down the stairs every time I have a bit of paper that just NEEDS to be recycled. I have one bin, and my rubbish goes in that bag.

Recycling can be a good thing. It does have a lot of annoying regulations though. The concept that trash can become remade into useable products again is a fantastic idea.... but sometimes they just go about it wrong with all the rules you have to follow if you decide to recycle. Some places even make it mandatory to recycle instead of throwing out certain items. It's meant to make the trash system more organized (while making better products in the process) but the concept of recycling needs some recycling of its own due to the fact that the rules have caused too many people to be against the idea these days.

As has been said above many a time, there are too many regulations and restrictions on it. It makes my head spin at times. I do it, mostly because i was raised to, and my wife is anal about it, but it really doesn't matter to me one way or another. Heck, where I live, there's a different day for garbage then there is for recycling, which makes it even worse.

It's "worth it" in that it takes five minutes of my time, and there are some "benefits" and really no "cost". I get that some "trash" can be used to make beneficial products as well, but usually recycled products are more expensive. I recycle, but really its only because its important to my wife.

I really dont care much for recycling. I understand that it helps the earth but I dont see why you have to do so much just to recycle. Paper plastic and aluminum can not be together no one has ever told me why that's just the way it is. If a recycling bin is right in front of me i will recycle but i'm not one of those people who go out of their way to dispose of a can the right way.
