DIY Greatest Hits Albums!

ARLO

On A Break From Sig Requests
So recently Naitch has made some cool compilation threads:
I've come up with an idea of my own:

DIY GREATEST HITS!

Pick an artist/band and make up your own greatest hits album for them. It could be a "Greatest Hits So Far" or your own version of one that's already been done. If you've been frustrated with some song choices in a greatest hits album that was released years ago, now is the time to right those wrongs.
There's no limit to songs, but you should have at least 10 and if you're having more than say 25 then split it into two discs. Write next to each song which album they're originally from.

I really want this to be big so I'm gunna be bumping it with a new album at least once a week.

10.The four horsemen

9.Fuel
10.Enter Sandman
11.Creeping Death
12.Seek & Destroy
13.King Nothing
14.St.Anger
15.Cyanide
16.Blackened

See what I did there? Disc 1 is the epic (Long and Power ballad-ish) songs and disc 2 is the thrashier headbanging type songs

I think this would be a perfect track listing for a 2 disc Metallica best-of compilation as it showcases both of their sides and it spans their whole career. Mainly focused on their best era (84-91) but w/o forgetting the very beggining , the sucky era , or the current time either by having at least 1 song from each album.

There was a thread like this made earlier in the year I think bro, by SSC possibly....

I remember posting quite a number of DIY greatest hits albums on it...but as that has died off there is no harm in doing another one. I will have a think and then make a couple of compilations for this thread too.

Oh fuck!
I did a search and nothing turned up so I figured it would be OK.

Thanks for participating anyway :)

Since Dr. Dre's featured in so many great tracks, I gave them their own disc. I only included Detox songs that have been officially released.

The first compilation album I will do is for my favourite band, which is the legendaryOasis. I have everything they ever released, including every B-Side on every single. I have looked at doing a full career retrospective, and have decided to do a 3 disc box set for the band. They have released so many incredible songs that there was no way I would ever be able to cut it down to a 2-disc set.

I will put the album in brackets after the song title.

16. Fuckin' In The Bushes (Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants)

Every studio album has been featured, and also several of the brilliant B-Sides which are better than almost any other bands has every released as an A-Side. I have also added a couple of tracks from the Live Album from Wembley stadium, as I prefer the live version of Wonderwall which was played on electric guitar rather than the usual acousitc version).

I have ordered the tracks so they start each disc with a lively, rockier song and end on a more epic stadium anthem. I have also used songs with both Liam and Noel on main vocals as I love both their voices, even though they are entirely different.

A few of the famous tracks are missing, including the likes of "Shakermaker" "The Importance Of Being Idle" and "Half The World Away", but I am just picking my favourites, so this compilation is perfectly suited to my tastes. It really does show the variety in the music of Oasis, the slower and faster tracks, the wall of sound guitar tracks and the slower acoustic numbers.

A guaranteed number 1 if this was ever released, I'm tellin ya!

LIVE FOREVER

I thought this would be really interesting. I only just discovered J. Cole but he's fast become one of the only new school rappers I like. He even produces pretty much all of his songs. He hasn't even released an album yet, so I selected these songs from his 3 mixtapes.
I urge you to check him out, he's crazy talented.

Please guys, contribute to this thread, it doesn't take much effort. It's not going anywhere coz even if no-one else posts I will keep bumping it.

Lupe Fiasco is becoming one of my favorite rappers in the game today and everything I can get my hands on by him I do. He is young and only has a few albums, but is still tearing it up. I felt he deserves a small compilation album of his best. I couldn't find an album failure was on, not sure if it was even studio released, but it is beast. In any case, this is my greatest hits for Lupe. I may come back for more when I think of them, maybe even later tonight.

6. Love The Way You Lie II (Rihanna ft. Eminem)

7. I Need A Doctor (Dr. Dre ft. Eminem and Skylar Grey)

8. Fast Lane (ft. Royce Da 5'9)

Eminem, in my opinion, is one of the top thre rappers of all time in the industry, and his hits span so many albums that this one could take up three albums, but some of the songs on the third are just features and relatively low on his totem pole, so they'd be on an exclusive album that might be sold at certain stores or on a re-release. Since Eminem has had two major personas over the years, himself, and his alter-ego Slim Shady, I figured one album for each side of his music would fit and showcase him wholly and equally. Some would think some songs, such as "Kim" and "Almost Famous" could switch albums, but I suited them to which persona I felt fit best. This is a great representation of Eminem and I would buy it, if I didn't already have most of them.

As some of you may know, I'm really into Kanye West as an artist. Some might even say I'm a blind mark (which may be true) as I have never heard a bad Kanye song. Yes he is my favorite rapper. Kanye stands out from most of the other rappers who spit rhymes about hoes and money while Kanye is writing the best shit anyone could hear. This Greatest hits albums consists of some of my favorite and even lesser favorite Kanye West tracks. However, if this album were ever to hit stores, even though I own all of these songs, I'd probably buy the album just to have it.

So I'll do The Red Hot Chili Peppers because they've had a rather long career and the greatest hits Cd from a few years ago didn't show enough of their backlog. Another thing I find is the term Greatest Hits is subjective. Sure there ar songs that are hits that are good, but sometimes there are songs not released that are really good that deserve recognition which I think are more essential listening.

So here is the Essential Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Disc 1

1. True Men Don't Kill Cayotes

23. Drop The World (Lil Wayne) - Rebirth
24. That's All She Wrote (T.I.) - No Mercy

I named it Redone because Shady's albums recently have had 'Re' in them, and because he's already had a hits album. I think I'm pretty happy with My picks. Some feedback maybe?

Oh yeah, I'm repping anyone that posts in here, so there's some more incentive :)

1. Down With the Sickness LIVE!

Some of you may know, my taste in music is all over the place. While I mainly listen to rap and hip hop, I do listen to a lot of Rock/Heavy Rock/Nu Metal type stuff. And Disturbed may just be my favorite Band. On the first disc, I listed the top ten Disturbed songs - in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of The Night which I rated number two. The Night would've been number one had it not been for Down With the Sickness' huge popularity and influence. So this is definitely an album I would buy if ever released.

Oh yeah, I'm repping anyone that posts in here, so there's some more incentive.
Same for the Kanye West Fan Thread ;).

18. Why You Hate The Game- (Doctor's Advocate)

In my opinion, The Game is the best gangsta rapper out there today. I have spread the tracks from over the 3 official Game albums, and I think I have come up with a pretty good selection of his best released work. I cant wait for him to drop the R.E.D album, as apart from Detox I have not been this excited about a rap release for a long time.

I'm going to post on a band that I know. I personaly have all their cd's and as soon as I get more money I will lay claim to owning both their live dvd's and their Hourglass Anthology. I allredy have Killadelphia, and it is a great colection of their live versions of older songs. But this would be my version of their greatist hits.

American metal: Lamb of god

1. Suffering Bastard

I would usually look at my ITunes before posting on here to make sure I do not miss any tracks out, but I am going to make this Alice In Chains one without looking, so forgive me if I miss anything out. I think a 1 disc set is not enough for a band with so many great songs, so I will go for a 2 disc greatest hits

Disc 1

1. We Die Young
2. Them Bones
3. Man In The Box
4. Check My Brain
5. Dam That River
6. Bleed The Freak
7. Last Of My Kind

10. Died
11. Would?

10. Social Parasite (Demo)
11. A Looking In View
12. Put You Down
13. I Stay Away
14. Whale & Wasp

I have covered all of their albums (other than Sap) and thrown in a demo from the Music Box which I really like. It doesnt sound like most of their other stuff but its still awesome. I initially tried to put the louder, rockier songs on Disc 1, with the acoustic and slower songs on Disc 2, and I think it IS mostly like that, but Disc 2 also has its own share of heavy tracks too.
