Different Theme Music??????

Hey,
Dont know if you guys/gals have seen these double DVDs at like Wal-Mart and K-Mart. They are called Tagged Classics, and they are two past WWE events from 2002-2005. I recently bought one that had Survivor Series 2003 and Judgement Day from around the same time. Anyway, I noticed that some of the wrestler's theme music was actually not the same on the DVD that they actually used. Mysterio's was different, Booker T's and also, Ric Flair actually came out to his "old" theme music from his first run in WWE in '91. I actually noticed that about Flair's music on an old VHS of Summerslam '01 with Rock vs. Brock.

So, I know that Flair's music is not an original WWE production b/c it was used in 2001:Space Odyssey, but, if he used it every night on Raw, then why would it have to be changed for a DVD or VHS release? Same with Booker T's?

Anybody know or have noticed this. BTW, I have only noticed this on productions from like '01-03/04.

Anybody have an answer?

I read a post about this some time ago and it has to do with them being able to air copyrighted music live, but not having the rights to do it on re-releases of events, such as ones that are put on DVD.

They can get away with it live, but they have to change it if they put the same copyrighted music on a DVD, apparently.

they don't have the rights to use some of that music on videos, so they dub over the theme with some generic music for the DVD releases

No, I think this is the case with me anyways as I have my own entertainment production company that "stock music" which is what it is, Has a certain license limit like you can only use the song on lets say 100,000 products. Meaning that if they exceed the limit without renewal there breaking the license agreement. And seeing as WWE dosent know how many they will actually sell its probably just safer to dub there theme with something WWE has full writes to.
Honestly copyrights are a real pain in the Ass.:smashfreakB:

2001 Summer Slam was The Rock vs Booker T for the wCw Championship.
2002 Summer Slam was Rock Vs Brock. I noticed that when Undertaker used American Bad Ass or Rollin' as his theme, they have dubbed it with his Ministry of Darkness music, the funny thing is, they had Limp Bizkit perform live at WrestleMania XIX and they can't use their music? When the dvd for WrestleMania XIX first came out they had the music like it was originally, then on WWE.COM where you can watch classic matches, they cut off Undertaker's entire entrance at start the match right when his music ends. What a coincidence. Also some of '03 PPVs dubbed Kane's music with his old music and not Slow Chemical, yet that song is specifically made for Kane maybe not owned by WWE but it does not make sense for anyone else to use it or have it on any movie or anything else since it is Kane's theme for the first minute and a half or so

i was wondering the same thing. I bought the Bret Hart DVD, and his match with Benoit on that has benoits WWE music dubbed, but they used Brets WCW music.

maybe its just something to make it different. idk. its stupid tho

The copyright issue is just like the SvR games with CM Punk. Anyone noticed his tattoos are missing? Copyright issues. Sux, I know, but its better than legal trouble

Sorry Big Red,
I knew it was '02, just tryin' to keep you guys on your toes! LOL

The thing is if the WWE used Flair's theme in the DVD, they would have to pay copyright fees as they are selling a DVD and the music since the music is on the DVD. Since the WWE put out so many DVD's, they usually dub the theme to save money, unlike with games as they may sign a deal seeing as it's one game and not different DVD titles.

Its the same thing with ECW, they could use the themes on air, but some themes would be dubbed on video to avoid paying bands royalites. I don't mind the dub theme, I just hate the Booker T porn theme they give him from the WrestleMania x8 game.

This is also a reason why I refuse to get WWE 24/7 as they dub all WCW themes.
