"Delicious" Discussion

nah, personally i think racism is called upon way to much these days. no offense to anyone but everyone is racist a little bit. some more than others. but what i'm trying to get to is that everyone has a stereo type:
rednecks(hunting)
blacks(chicken)
asians(painting nails)

Really, no offense to anyone but its really the truth.
maybe vince knows that some people will think its funny but others want, hence jimmy wang yang, jezzy(jesse), now i guess r-truth. its all in good laughs to vince and a select others..

**IF I UPSET ANYONE, I'M SORRY, JUST MESSAGE ME AND I WILL APOLOGIZE OR WHATEVER YOU'D LIKE**

I just looked up that vignette. It was....awkward to say the least. I, however, am going to be optimistic about the direction for R-Truth....or should I say Pretty Ricky? Or as the government knows him, "Delicious." /facepalm

He hasn't wrestled under this gimmick, has he? I mean, I can't find him wrestling as "Pretty Ricky" anywhere. I'm going with the idea that this is a failed attempt at the "Borat" sort of humor, that of an actor going somewhere and putting forth an incredibly extreme character, and seeing the types of reactions they can elicit. I can't simply believe that they would do this to a character until I see R-Truth wrestle as "Pretty Ricky."

As far as Vince being racist...I feel that charge is leveled a few too many times this day in age. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as to claim him racist, I would see where someone who would is coming from. Cryme Tyme are nothing but thugs. Kofi is a happy go-lucky Jamaican. Booker T was a comedy gimmick, really. Bobby Lashley was the only really neutral black wrestler. Even Ron Simmons was reduced to the funny black man who couldn't help but say "DAMN." I myself see these as cartoony gimmicks that could only truly exist in the cartoon world of pro-wrestling. Others could completely see them as racist representations. I simply wouldn't go that far.

One thing is certain though. If R-Truth is truly relegated to "Pretty Ricky," then R-Truth as we know him is dead. However, I wouldn't put it past R-Truth to somehow get over. He'd pull it off.

You know, a couple of days ago I saw a post from fromthesouth and he brought up a really good point. It really made me believe Vince McMahon is not a racist. Here is part of the post he made:

If you step back, and take a look, Vince's "racism" has been pointed at whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Samoans, Native Americans, homosexuals, and women. No one is safe from Vince, or wrestling as a whole.

So that quote alone made me think Vince wasn’t really a racist. It’s not only one race he targets and puts silly and weird gimmicks on. He doesn’t care who you are, if he wants to put you in a gimmick that people might think is racist and make you talk differently, then he will most certainly do it. Like fts said, no one is safe from Vince or wrestling as a hole. In addition, we know Vince likes to do things for his own amusement. Maybe this was one of those times where he thought he would get a kick out of seeing R-Truth act the way he did in the vignette. So, I don't think Vince is a racist, he just likes to do odd things for his amusement or because he thinks it might get people talking, if either one of those were his goals then he succeeded.

I think i'd have to agree that Vince is not racist. This whole thing can be blamed on the wrtiers.just a bad idea that will probably disappear once fans start complaining about it.i mean if Vince was racist would Mark Henry be getting pushed so heavily on Raw right now?

Well I think this would have been much better in the bar room lol.
And no Vince is not racist, he's just a dumbass! If he was racist no black man, or any one other than white people wouldn't have worked for the WWE. The Rock, was the center piece along with Austin in the attitude era, and isn't The Rock half black? And they never said who that was even though we all knew it was R-Truth. And correct me if I'm wrong but R-Truth had a match with Kane, before that disturbing skit. And he had the same happy, jolly, WHATS UP! gimmick, and no fake teeth! But than again WWE might be trying another alter-ego thing. Lol it worked sorta well with the Marella's but lets see what happens. Again Vince is not racist, he's just a dumbass!

I agree that the Pretty Ricky skit was stupid and not funny at all, but I don't think that it was overly racist. Sure there are some sterotypes in the WWE, but it isn't limited to black wrestlers. Trevor Murdoch had a redneck gimmick, Funaki had a Karate gimmick, etc. Sure the are sterotypes in the WWE, but Vince isn't a complete racist.

That being said, if R-Truth's character becomes nothing more than someone who does stupid comedy skits like this I'll be pissed. The R-Truth character is completely over and he actually looked like he was about to get a push back when he cut a pretty good promo against Jericho and had a great match against him. Ron Killings shouldn't become a Santino like character anytime in the near future.

Vince is not racist he made champions look at it this way to be great u have to have a slow push r truth is a good mc and he is a good wrestler so why would he not be a good champion, vince will one day make him have a title run

is this just another way they can put r truth down? turn him into a comedian then slowly forget about him kinda like goldust and santino, shit come on they hype his return dont do nothing with him and know this. i think he could be a very succesfull superstar and put asses in the seats. like ive already said he has the potential to be the next booker t. so whats up what do yall think?????????

well i didnt watch smackdown last week so i didn't see the r truth bit that everyone is talking about. i do think that if he changes to a comedian then it will be a waste of talent. he can wrestle is good and the mic and gets the crowd into it. y mess with a good think?? he's a good mid-carder for sure maybe a small ME push. i really dont understand what does on the the heads of the creative team. r they really that out of touch with what good wrestling is???

I am guessing R-Truth probably had something to do with it himself. Just because someone does a comedy skit doesn't mean their getting demoted. Besides, it was funny. Obviously it was meant to be, and R-Truth did his best to make it funny. I don't think this was a smiting of some kind, it was just something funny meant to surprise the fans. Odds are it could have been his idea, those guys do that sometimes. He looked like he was having fun with it too, did you notice that? Not you or I know exactly why they do what they do sometimes, but just because it isn't in your mind what constitutes a push, doesn't mean that it is some detrimental move on the guy's career. In fact, it was probably meant to get people to like him more, as it portrays him as a funny guy with a good sense of humor. Don't read too deeply into this stuff, it is a show.

Why do you think this is automatic demotion? He actually got some extra tv time, I consider that an upgrade from just beating jobbers (Shelton Benjamin! Oh yes, I will run his useless ass into the ground every chance I get) and losing to mid carders. Maybe he can get into the IC title picture. This definitely helps more than it hurts him. Personally didn't find the segment too funny, but I'm sure the kiddies did.

I watched this "delicious" bullshit and I gotta say it is really stupid. It isn't funny, and has R-Truth walking around like someone who has some fucking brain disease. It's more stupid than that movie with the baby and the hooker and clive owen and the bald fat blue guy from liar liar.

Well, it looks like all of us are a bunch of idiots. Especially whoever started this thread.

The Wrestling Observer said:
-- R-Truth came up with the idea to do the "Pretty Ricky" character. He was apparently messing around doing the character on the road and some WWE people saw it, so now it's on national television. SmackDown creative writer Chris DeJosephs (a/k/a Big Dick Johnson) is in charge of producing the skits and Vince McMahon "absolutely loves them." Quite like the movie Bruno, most of the stuff you see are legitimate reactions, such as the initial skit in which he tried to go over the merchandise seller's table to take stuff with security dragging him away.

So this should put to bed the idea that this is some kind of racist gimmick that McMahon came up with. No, quite the opposite, it would appear that R-Truth came up with the whole thing himself as a joke he likes to play backstage with the guys. The fact that they may try to use the gimmick to get real reactions from people ala Bruno actually sounds pretty damn intriguing. Even though the skits are still pretty painful to watch, this will atleast put them in a new light. It's no longer racist, just really, really stupid.

As long as he doesn't drop the R-Truth character completely for the Pretty Ricky one it'll be fine. The skits aren't really that funny, but we've seen worse. At least it's not word up or anything involving Cryme Tyme. I think the WWE should be worrying more about getting Truth over as a legitimate contender than doing these dumbs skits.

As xfear pointed out, it's Truth's idea. Again Vince gets a lot of hate for something that wasn't his fault. Truth seems to be carrying on with his own gimmick as well as skits with the new one. I don't find it funny but I didn't find Bruno funny, people who are into that kind of humour may appreciate it more. If it makes one person laugh and tune into watch it again when they usually wouldn't then it has done it's job.

Until Truth does that character in the ring, his original gimmick is the one to measure him with. He is still being serious in the ring and he is still over. If Truth would rather be a comedy character than a serious character it is his choice. It's worked for Santino, and it's worked for others.

Thank you for the information. This should be most interesting, though I personally don't find it entertaining. But since R-Truth came up with the idea, it eases me knowing the WWE isn't intent on pushing him back. Whether or not I can call it a smart idea on R-Truth's part, is debatable.

I hope you're kidding there. I believe everyone who posted in this thread was just as misinformed as I was.

I'm assuming you did read the second part of my post, right? Right where I edited my post, take a look there buddy. I asked to disregard what I said about Vince being racist and I placed my insight more on R-Truth's future. This thread is on R-Truth's future, rather than on Vince's being an outright racist if you took the time to read my post and most of everyone's replies.

Then again, you and the rest of us are all idiots :icon_rolleyes:

OK, we all know by now about the vignettes featuring R-Truth as the new persona, "Delicious". When the first vignette aired, everyone shat all over it, including myself.
However, now that it's been a few weeks and R-Truth hasn't been seen as Delicious outside of the vignettes, I've changed my tune. It's actually a good thing, for a few reasons:

1. It adds humor to a show otherwise about wrestling.
2. It adds depth to his character.

R-Truth in the ring is still the massively over, razzle-dazzle, rapping Truth we all know and love. Now, ever since the first vignette was shown I thought it was a take on Bruno and other improv-style comedies. R-Truth dresses like an over-the-top stereotype and talks to unsuspecting men and women on the street, just like in Borat or Bruno. I'm sure some found this vignettes unny. I found the over-the-top-ness of them mildly humorous. This, along with Word Up, adds a lighter side to Smackdown which is more wrestling-oriented and serious.

As for adding depth to Truth's character, it shows that he has a sense of humor and is willing to have some fun with people out in public. Now he is more than R-Truth, the rapping wrestler. He is R-Truth, the rapping wrestler who has fun with life.

These are the reasons I believe the Delicious sketches aren't so bad after all.

I must of lost it because I can't see how "Delicious" Pretty Ricky can help his character, because IMO it looks like a very horrible gimmick, and not to mention it perpetuates stereotypes. I'm honestly suprised that haven't had him eating fried chicken and drinking grape soda yet (but not smoking kools or new port cigarettes because that would incourage unhealthy habits lol).

What's wrong with a little humor in the WWE now adays? Other than the occasional John Cena wisecrack, we rarely if ever see or hear something funny in and WWE programming. With the Delicious gimmick, R-Truth is adding comedy to the WWE and that alone will be awesome to watch.

Indeed. I doubt this gimmick will ever surface outside of those vignettes except for a possible backstage segment. Truth's character isn't killed but enhanced. He's still the same guy in the ring, and this just shows he likes to be over-the-top and fun. The way I see it, Truth knows that it's stereotypical, and he cranks it up to 11.

I don't mind the Delicious thing so much.
If WWE plays it right, continues to build up R-Truth and starts to put Delicious into shows outside of a vignette, it could be a genuinely good angle.
While split personality angles are common in the wrestling world, ones that are done properly are rare. But I think this could actually help R-Truth. It could actually make Truth more credible by making his opponents worry about which of his personalities they're gonna end up facing.
And the amount of directions the angle could go in are limitless. They could make Truth "charm" his way to the top and then have Truth reveal he was faking it. That would get some good heel heat.

So yeah, while it may not be much right now, we should be patient.

I'm not so annoyed at it now, he adds humour and comedy to a serious show and his rapper gimmick is good, if anyone noticed when he was talking to opponents after his entrance, and cracking jokes at them they should incorporate that regularly for him.

The Delicious/Pretty Ricky persona is just an alter ego that can work given more time. He's having fun with fans which is a nice thing, good comedy in WWE is whats needed in the "humour department"

R-Truth is massively over at the moment but any fuck ups with him then thats not good, but they turn him heel eventually put him alongside Jericho because he likes to "tell the truth and be honest".

When this character was first debuted on Smackdown!, I thought it was very bad and very annoying, but now, I find myself hating it less and less. As long as this "Delicious" gimmick doesn't become part of his in ring personality, than I'm totally fine with it. He's already very well over with the crowd, and wouldn't really need this.

I agree that there needs to be a bit more humor on the serious show that Smackdown! has become. Some have mentioned that he could use this character in backstage segments, but I fear that if that were to happen, it may turn into a Santino/Santina like gimmick, which would be terrible.

I must be missing something....I have yet to be entertained in the slightest by "pretty Ricky" The skits have bored me and annoyed me. I think that it is a waste of such a huge talent.

While R-Truth does need to do some more work at re-fining his act, i think he has enough potential to be a big star. Enough to hold a major belt in the WWE instead of reaching his peak in early TNA. But this takes away from the character they created for him. He was supposed to be someone who came from nothing, made some mistakes, but is now fixing his life and such. He didn't need anything else....he was over....more over then most of the faces in the company.....this can only hurt him in the long run.

It's walking the line of turning him into a Santino gimmick. Which Santino is over....but lets be honest....he'll never be taken seriously.

I'm fine with this gimmick as long as it stays out of the ring. Because we all know that if it did, then nobody would take R-Truth seriously. The potential that Truth has is amazing, he's already over with the fans he just needs a break. My worry is that this "Delicious" gimmick that they have going might prevent that break from coming.
