Del Rio returns at Hell In A Cell

I'll repeat something that I yelled on the dark emptiness of the moon earlier today:

One can't help but feel they had a sentence up on a whiteboard in the writing room and pulled words out of a hat.

Cena's opponent is revealed to be ______________, accompanied by ______________ on a ______________, who ______________ with a ______________.

Cena's opponent is revealed to be Alberto Del Rio_, accompanied by ___Zeb Coulter__ on a ____scooter____, who ___wins_clean__ with a _____kick_____.

Envy the universe where the words were AJ Styles, Claire Lynch, gimp, kills everyone, live hand grenade.

What possessed them to make everyone who's faced Cena for the past few years look like an absolute chump by having Cena lose to, as NorCal has pointed out elsewhere, a series of headlocks and a kick is anybody's guess. World heavyweight champion Seth Rollins must be so confused.

Explaining Zeb is easy... they just use the real story of how ADR was treated badly by the company and he made it his mission to get the injustice put right... Real American's are not racist can be his new mantra... Remember a lot of casual fans won't know what happened, so if he does a shoot and says it as he is he could be turned relatively quickly... especially if Trips and Steph don't like what he's saying.

ADR was always a "good hand" and useful to have as he rarely has a bad match, and remember this is geared to making sure the latino demographic is catered for, so I wouldn't expect him to be heel for long. In the short term, he's someone who can have interesting matches with Neville, Owens and a few of the other newbies... I can also see him being there as a first feud opponent for Finn Balor when he comes up.

I'm a huge fan of Alberto Del Rio. He took a while to grow on me because WWE made the same mistake they do with everyone, pushing him to the main event scene INSTANTLY, but by mid 2011 he'd become one of WWE's most solid workers. The way WWE handled his departure was absolute bullshit, and I felt sorry for the guy having to toil in the indies for the last year. Now he's back in the big leagues and I'm excited to see what they do with him.

Del Rio was a decent surprise as was Zeb Colter. I give Del Rio three weeks until hearing that entrance music immediately makes everyone yawn and he's back to getting zero reaction from the fans.

I enjoy Del Rio he is a very hard worker, i know that 2011 was his year as people have mentioned but give him a chance, i saw him off of WWE for sometime in other promotions, going off topic a little, he has improved a huge amount since being away from WWE i will give him that.

Cena vs Del Rio was World title material a few years ago, now it's elevating that US title, I for one, cannot wait to see the rub it gives someone when it finally migrates from former World Champions to a midcarder trying to break into the Main Event scene.

How is the return of a washed up Del Rio huge? Please explain......He's a typical WWE main eventer, old and irrelevant. Meh........I hope AAA sues him for breach of contract. Del Rio is going to bore everyone to death with his bland style. Cesaro should have gotten that belt, guy's been busting his ass lately.

Returning and beating John Cena, face of the WWE, CLEAN for the belt is pretty huge.

Del Rio is incredible. He's the exact type of main eventer WWE needs - EXPERIENCED. I'm so sick of all these young nobodies getting the main event spots.

Oh my God...

Please tell me you're kidding. WWE has to build new stars.

The legends aren't going to be there that long. I mean, you do know this, right?

WWE's pushing new stars to the moon instantly is why they consistently fail to build new stars. If you knew half as much about wrestling as you think, you'd understand that. Shooting young guys right to the top never works in the long run. Building new stars is a long, slow process. WWE's failure to understand that is why they've been incapable of making new stars. And that's why they need veteran talents to shoulder the load. The young guys they shot to the top aren't ready.

Absolutely agree. Getting new stars over is a long term deal. Shooting them right up into the main event rarely works, unless it's a Braun Strowman type of character with a strong supporting cast.
The WWE has also a problem with consistency. They might start a push, then for no reason or for some quirk, they drop it. Bray Wyatt is a great example. They build, then drop.
There comes a point where he's not going to be credible anymore and he's past that right now.
Then there's their politics, which baffle most people. If someone manages to get over on their own by grinding through horrid angles and terrible booking, they get punished. See Cesaro.
Del Rio is safe, they like safe, but playing it safe doesn't create new stars. Veterans are supposed to elevate new talent in order to create new stars, Jericho gets it. HHH not so much.
Del Rio is a proven talent that will draw in Mexico and that's the main aim, but he's not the new sensation, not the must see amazing new star everyone is talking about, he's the guy that got popular in Mexico by dissing the WWE.
Wonder how much of a draw he will be when he returns there as an hypocrite.
