Dark Knight Rises Teaser Trailer

None of that makes the new film any good though, it's pretentious because you're basing this off a poster a few seconds worth of film. Nobody really wants to take into account the affect that Heath Ledger had on the last film.

The film isn't even finished, so, obviously, I'm not saying it's a masterpiece, or anything along those lines. But, Christopher Nolan has put together two outstanding films going into this project, so I have faith.

Reading through this thread and seeing the projected numbers indicates a bit of pretentiousness. That act that you automatically expect this new film to easily out gross the last one just screams of it. There's no indication whatsoever that the new Batman film will gross over a billion, unless Heath Ledger has risen from the dead to reprise his role as the Joker.

When is the last time a film did the kind of numbers TDK did, and the sequel(s) didn't do just as well (the new Star Wars being the exception)?

Ledger sold most of the tickets, but the buzz kept selling tickets. It was a great film. If it had been shit, no one would have cared. This franchise is about quality, and if the third film is any good, the box office numbers will be very high. TDK created a buzz, and anyone who saw that film is obviously going to see the sequel, no?

Exactly, extremely pretentious, proclaiming it better than sliced bread with absolutely nothing to back it up.

Nothing to back it up? How about an excellent cast (Tom Hardy as Bane, Bale back as Batman, Oldman back as Gordon, etc), an outstanding director, and two amazing prior installments. I think that backs up what I'm saying.

Everyone always tells me this, like it's not my real opinion or something. "SSC is just trying to be cool by saying he thinks TDK isn't better than two bitches blowing his cock." No, actually, it's my real opinion. It's a pretentious thought to think EVERYONE should agree TDK and the BB series is the greatest thing ever.

Fine. You're not in that group. I'm just saying people, a lot of people, do that.

It's far better than an average film. I would say it's one of the better crime dramas of the past decade. This film, in my view, wasn't a tad overrated. It was everything I expected. More, actually. Harvey Dent/Two-Face was a great character. The villains worked well (Dent being almost a mirror image of what Wayne could have been, and The Joker being Wayne's opposite).

It wasn't shallow. This film made me a huge Batman fan. Prior to this film, I didn't dislike Batman, but I didn't really care about it. I didn't walk into The Dark Knight a biased fanboy. I walked out a huge fan of the character, and this particular franchise.

Sure it was shallow.
I watched through the whole thing and was confronted by not one challenging thought or ideal. Even for an action flick the themes were simplistic, and when you contrast it against the grand metanaratives and complex themes explored by films like Inception or The Matrix then TDK comes off as completely devoid of depth.

After watching Inception for the first time the topic of conversation for the next twenty-four hours ranged from the nature of consciousness, to multiple interpretations of the films plot and themes, to what exactly constitutes reality.
After watching The Dark Knight for the first time the topic of conversation for the next twenty-four hours was "wasn't is cool when Batman...".

As I said before, as a generic action flick in the same vein as Transformers or Die Hard it's an extremely good film. I found it boring personally, but I have no problem understanding why anyone would enjoy it, it just irks me to see people trying to pass the film off as something that it's not. It isn't subtle, it isn't complex, it's not high brow. It isn't exceptionally artistic or revolutionary. It's not Andrei Rublev or The Godfather. It's a well made but generic action film.
That's it.

Inception was an overrated, illogical piece of shit that took itself way too seriously. My only topic of conversation with that film once it was over was, "How the fuck was Joseph Gordon-Levitt able to do all that with only two minutes to work with and still have time to sit and wait in an elevator for ten more minutes?"

The Dark Knight, on the other hand, was simply fun and anyone who couldn't enjoy it... well, that their problem, not the film's problem. It's not a movie you go to analyze and break shit down; it's a film where you sit back, enjoy the action/drama and the spectacular performances by the actors.

Don't agree there, The Dark Knight definitely thinks its more than it actually is.

I think it's the fanbase that does that though; I really don't think it was the film's intention to be anything more than a fun summer block buster action flick. Also, Heath Ledger's death made people look at it with a more serious tone as well.

However, to me, it's a movie where you just watch for a thrill ride. After repeated viewings, I've found flaws with it and don't think it's a masterpiece (whereas before I thought it was perfect outside of that hideous creature Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel), but Ledger's performance still makes the movie one of the more entertaining films of the last decade, IMO.

Except, you can make yourself believe in the Matrix (the first one, anyway), since it's a movie that knows its place and isn't the least bit pretentious.

Inception carried itself like a legit crime drama. And it could have worked, but much like Memento, there were simply too many plot holes and inconsistencies for me to find the film anything other than silly.

And Liar got there before Inception, that didn't help. Well, help me. I'm the only cunt who seems to have seen it.

In a way I'm not completely shocked it did so well. This movie was going to be huge no matter which way you slice it. If there were a Potter film to ever cross the billion dollar mark, it will be Dealthy Hallows Pt2.

Domestic: $168,550,000
+ Foreign: $307,000,000
Worldwide: $475,550,000

The bar has been set pretty damn high for an opening weekend. I'll say Batman wins the Domestic opening weekend next year, but not worldwide.

Can't wait, next summer is gonna be a good summer for comic book movies, Avengers & TDKR!!!

Oh look SSC viewing this thread... prepare for more pointless trolling folks

I agree it's also stupid, annoying & old, I mean god forbid people like Batman as much as you like weed...

It was stupid of me to back Harry Potter? The numbers seem to suggest otherwise.

Annoying? If being right is annoying than I guess so.

Old, if you mean Batman/TDK/DKR thread # 23637, well you're right, it is getting old.

Well, I doubt anyone loves batman as much as I love my herbs, but I've never made a thread professing my love for it; though now that I'm the new Potluck mod I smell an official non spam marijuana thread on the horizon.
