D.C Sniper

One of 'em. John Alan Muhammad? Spelling check needed. But yeah, he's being executed by lethal injection tonight at 9pm. It's been up in the air for a while whether or not to kill him or make him serve life in prison. For those of you who don't remember, the D.C Sniper terrorized the Washington D.C, Maryland, and Virginia areas killing a load of people and literally having everyone afraid to go outside for fear of being shot. I remember I was just starting middle school and they had all kinds of insane procedures to limit the time of students being outside.

This guy murdered 10 people in 2002, right? I'm all for this guy being executed tonight, but I have to ask, why does it only take 7 years to execute this guy and less for mcveigh(I have a theory on mcveigh) yet there are child killers who have been on death row for 20+ years? If shooting 10 people from a distance gets you executed within 10 years shouldn't kidnapping, raping and killing a child get you executed in under 20?

I just don't understand why if this guy an get excuted so quickly, compared to others, why do we have people sentenced to death, dying of natural causes on death row?

You got the wrong idea mate, let the peado's rot on death row, thats far more cruel than actually killing them.

I'm firmly against capital punishment, so I'm against this. Not that he isn't a gigantic piece of shit, but I just don't believe in the state executing it's citizens.

Why take so long is what I'd like to know. Seven years? Didn't we have him convicted LONG ago?

Not sure on the capital punishment part. However if he were to get life, I'd prefer it actually mean LIFE. Not a few years and then 30 on parole or whatever.

I'm an opponent of capital punishment as well , I don't feel like any state should have the right to take away human life.

I understand that the families may "feel better" but it's not going to bring their loved ones back and what difference does it make if he is in jail for life or dead ?

I will say that at least they developed a more humane way of execution the electric chair was brutal and disgusting, lethal injection is ok I guess.

I guess all the families who lost their loved ones will be happy now.......

Capital Punishment is WRONG. No government should be legally sactioning the death of its citizens. Let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives. A small cost, as opposed to pretending to be god and making judgements on people's lives. Or is it an eye for an eye? i believe the cavemen lived by this.....but i guess we havn't really changed.

Also, I agree southwind, what's the point? Families can't bring back their dead and just becuase you feel better doesn't mean something is right. It would have made me feel better yesterday to beat the hell out of that jerk who cut me off in traffic, but that doesn't mean i should. Or should I have?

Obviously, none of you have had anyone close to you murdered, I have. One of my frineds was murdered by a piece of shit that had been going up and down the coast breaking into cars. My friend was at the beach and someone saw this guy breaking into a woman's truck, my friend and others gave chase and the guy turned around and stabbed him in the heart with a welding rod with a handle bent into the bottom. My friend came by my work about 30 mins before it happened, I remember seeing the ambulance going to the beach, found out later what happened.

The guy was convicted of murder w/special circumstances and in cali that is MADITORY LIFE IN PRISON, unfortunately the judge didn't know what maditory means and sentenced the guy to 25-life with parole. He might already be out.

You think the state has no right to 'play God', isn't that what the dc sniper did by killing those 10 people?

MAYBE, if prisoners spent 23 hours a day in a cell with NO TV, No wieght lifting equipment, NO BOOKS, NO PHONES, NO windows, NO human contact, a hole in the cement to shit in and 1 small 30 watt light bulb left on 24 hours a day, then MAYBE prison would be punishment. Oh, and if life in prison meant you come out in a box then maybe the death penalty wouldn't be necessary, but until then, kill'em all and let GOD sort it out.

Let the name calling begin... x..go ahead

I was going to bring up the whole "revenge is not justice" thing, but you've already gone ahead and done that for me J. You wanted revenge. That's not justice.

You ever been to prison? The fact that you people seem to think prison is nice and comfy is a source of neverending laughter for me.

I'm all for capital punishment. When you take the life away of others, you deserve zero rights.

Intent is key. Drunk Drivers fall more into the vehicular homicide. Soldiers are following orders of the state. When you have the well thought out intention of murder, like Malvo did, he deserves what he gets.

I'm for the death penalty when it's clearly obvious what the guy was doing, and it's 100% (or as close to it) as possible that that person did it. I'm not for people getting executed without hard evidence.

Yeahh, not too crazy on the capital punishment thing. Just give them life with no chance to get out early. Solitary confinement is pretty much torture though.

Again, intent. If people are offing others for shits and giggles, they should be court marshalled and all of that good stuff. If you are in a fire fight situation, shit happens unfortunately.

I'm talking shit like My Lai, do you think William Calley should've been executed?

Justice is vengeance. It is a type of vengeance.

The difference is, is that justice is vengeance through the group, or through the state. (trial by jury and judge)

Vengeance through the state makes the judgement impartial, and that's where the idea of justice comes from, impartial group judgement.
