Cruiserweight Classic Thread

I absolutely loved Zack Sabre's match, his style is great and I was marking out alongside Bryan! But as soon as the match turned into more of a "typical" match he didn't look very good, that suplex/brainbuster sell was shit lol

Gallagher is awesome too and I had seen him perform too. They are probably the two I like the most!

I didn't like the result of the Gargano and Ciampa match but it keeps both strong I guess. Ciampa just stands out more to me as a "striker" in this thing.

So with round 2 onwards I think it's going to get much harder to predict... I think I'm going to get upset at a lot of results haha but overall as long as Ibushi doesn't win (too obvious) I'll be good.

Ibushi/Cedric burn the house down in the best match in the tournament yet.

There was talks that Ibush will not be signing and if so I'll be extremely sad that they put him over Cedric. Great match. Hope both are in NXT by the end of the year.

I really like TJP, he's got a nice millennial douchebag gimmick going on.

Also, is there a way we can get Drew Gulak back and just... Not have ZSJ?

Edit: Also, it was nice to see an upset. The tournament was starting to get a little predictable. The crowd reaction was delicious.

So far Cedric Alexander is the guy that impressed me the most. I've seen his work on the indy scene and he always seemed to be a generic black athletic guy, but this tournament was really an amazing showcase. It helps a lot that his opponent was Kota Ibushi of course, but Alexander looked like a freaking star. Really hope he gets signed and can work on his promos at the PC.

WWE really went out on it's way to sign some great wrestlers for this tournament. The Brian Kendrick and Tajiri were perfect so far and I do not recall ever having an high opinion of any of them. CWC's the only wrestling show I've been watching until the very end. 1hour wrestling shows are just a blast.

Absolutely loved Gallagher vs Tozawa, I've never seen that "tied up" spot before, loved it. However I completely disagreed with the outcome! Gallagher was way more over and far more unique as a talent.

Kendrick vs Nese, superb match. I thought Nese would win, he was bigger, stronger and faster than Kendrick, but Kendrick had experience and intelligence. This match told a great story, and Kendrick winning was great! For sure the mist I've enjoyed Kendrick!

I noticed a flaw that might hinder Ibushi in the long-run: his lack of storytelling instincts. When he had his foot stuck in the guardrail, he quickly pulled it out, and broke the ref's count at 3. He should've been struggling out there for at least a few more seconds.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, but he'll need to learn a little more about the WWE style to be a success in front of the Raw crowd.

Edit: Dat Burning Hammer, tho. Didn't see that coming. I really hope they keep Kendrick around for a while, at least for the initial months of the Cruiserweight division on Raw. The tears in his eyes were too real.

I haven't watched the most recent episode yet. Who used the Burning Hammer????

Thank you THE Brian Kendrick for telling a god-damn beautiful story with a shades-of-grey character.

We were pretty emotional over the match in my house and talked about it for ages afterwards. That's right, other human beings in my house wanted to talk about wrestling.

Yes it's absolutely the most I've enjoyed him. Much like how the Nese match was booked, Kota being superior to Kendrick in all areas, and Kendrick basically looking like he will get squashed.. before using his intelligence to turn the match around. A great story was told. The Burning Hammer was a real surprise, there is no I way I would ever have predicted him pulling that out.

So Tozawa is out now, which I'm glad about. I mean, he's fine... But I'd say he's the worst of the semi final batch. Just something about his style, the way he wrestles like a heavyweight despite his actual size bothers me.

So here's what I predict.
Perkins to beat Swann.
Sabre to beat Dar.
Sabre to beat Metallik
Perkins to beat Ibushi (Yep)
Perkins to beat Sabre in the final.

My prediction is a bold one I know!

I'm fine with Perkins winning the whole thing. I think he has the most potential out of everyone, within the context of the WWE style. He has more personality than all of the guys in the tournament, bar Kendrick and Gallagher (and maybe Swann). And compared to those three, he's younger than TBK, and more marketable than both Gallagher and Swann. So he'd be a strong choice.

And if it means ZSJ doesn't win, all the better.

I still haven't lost hope, perhaps crazily, that Noam Dar will beat Sabre Junior. I'm pretty sure that Sabre Junior will win but I'd like to see Noam take that extra step forward. In terms of who wins, I'm pretty sure at this point that it won't be Kota Ibushi. After saying that he wouldn't sign with the WWE, I seriously doubt that he would win the entire thing. Couple that with how they are totally pushing the fact that he is the favourite... Yeah, he's not winning.

Perkins is the clear favourite outside of him for my money. We know he's going to Raw after the CWC is over and it would make sense for him to pick up the win and carry it over with him.

That said, I was wondering if it would be doable if Ibushi were to win and appear at certain WWE events to defend that honour on a pay per event basis? If you consider what the WWE have done with people like Lesnar, it's not outwith the realms of possibility. Especially given how much spotlight he would give to the WWE in Asia. Just a thought.

TJP sold a dab better than ZSJ sold his injured leg.

Edit: Although, the "bullshit" chants were pathetic. It's ridiculous that people who pride themselves on being "knowledgeable" are actually such marks.

TJ Perkins is a flog. Would pay good money to watch him cop chair shot after chair shot to the head. ZSJ is a 14 year old that never hit puberty, i wouldnt be suprised if he lost to a paper bag in a shoot

That is all

If you're not sold on ZSJ after that match, you're probably never going to be. I'm no World of Sport aficionado, I grew up on the WWF like the rest of you, but I found that match immensely entertaining. I do wish there'd been one British wrestler who didn't do the British technical style but what can you do?
