Cruiserweight Classic Thread

Right, because the IWC has never latched on to a guy who lacked charisma.

Charisma by definition is something that inspires devotion in others. Technically, if a bunch of people are latching onto someone, than that person has charisma.

I don't need someone to be flashy. I just need them to be entertaining, and not look at the hard camera with a stupid-ass expression after taking a big move.

I can buy that. But what were you expecting? Like I said, the guy's style is rather dull the first time you see it, especially in such a short time frame. If you actually give him a chance to wrestle more than a 9 minute match, he might win you over. Might.

The Kendrick v Mendosa match was great, I'm glad Brian went through but Mendosa is worthy of a 2nd round spot himself. They should swapped him and Ho Ho Lun round and had Lun lose against Kendrick with Mendosa winning his match

Mendoza's indy name is Jinzo. As in:

latest

Seriously. Dude's awesome.

ZSJ's moveset is very interesting. It goes back to the roots but those roots are so long ago that I've never seen anything like it.

I believe he could get over on main roster.

The whole ZSJ thing was fedora's everywhere. Good god.
He should probably be boiled in oil for the way he sold the brain buster.

That Mendoza - Kendrick match was bitchin.

Nese appears to be a bad motherfucker. I would have loved to hear Corey Graves thoughts on his opponent :lmao:

Also, unfortunately, my biggest take away so far is...

This has NO BUSINESS on Raw whatsoever. Its barely over with the crowd who paid specifically to attend it.

Should absolutely be a part Of NXT. It fits their niche audience and fits the "cutting edge" and "Indy on Steroids" monikers that go with it.

If they don't take it out back and shoot it in the head straight out, I think that's were it eventually ends up anyways

RAW, that super popular and entertaining program that has had declining ratings year on year, and features 20 minute Stephanie McMahon promos to kill time in between clips of R-Truth and Goldust playing Pokemon? THAT Raw?

No I don't think good wrestling has a place on it either

Kota Ibushi is already more over than half the WWE roster. They filmed 16 matches in a row, many with complete unknowns. obviously the crowd is going to get burned out after a while.

No I don't think good wrestling has a place on it .

First off, most of what I've seen on here can hardly be described as good.

Second I don't mean it as its not good enough for RAW, I mean that RAW crowds are non-plussed with stuff much better and more importantly WAY better known than these guys.

Id just much rather have it in a place were people will love it and have a taste for it. Not a place were they will get crickets and be fed to Braun Stroman by Halloween.

The Raw crowd which didn't seem bothered by Finn Balor? Yeah, unknown guys doing flips won't work. Its strictly NXT for the guys they'll want to keep.

The Raw division will have the likes of Sin Cara & Enzo there.

Yes, these unknown paper boys are the equivalent of FINN FUCKING BALOR who was a big merch pusher and backbone of NXT for a year before he showed
Up.

You are both talking such nonsense :lmao:

I've honestly yet to see an episode that was really that interesting. Even with the major names in there it's glorified squashes or just genuinely boring matches.

I'm sure Cedric/Kota will be cool but more likely than not it's still going to be a very toned down WWE version of that match. I just honestly think some might have had too high of expectations of what was going to be presented.

Graphics and commentating are still top-notch though.

Also ZSJ's moveset looks much more brutal on the indies when you're allowed to legitimately bend people's arms. Not so much here.

I've enjoyed the tournament so far.

Really liked Sabre vs. Dux.

There's been a good mix of styles and I enjoy the commentary and Graves' role from the control room.

I hope this really is an annual thing.

I'm also excited to see the Cruiserweights return to RAW. I've been a fan of the division since the WCW division and even when I was younger I liked guys like the 123-Kid and Hakushi.

First off, most of what I've seen on here can hardly be described as good.

Considering half the field are complete unknowns and they get about 6 minutes per match, I think they're doing the best with what they've been given.

At least wait until the second round where we get good wrestlers against good wrestlers, such as Kota Ibushi vs Cedric Alexander which has been hailed as one of the best matches in Full Sail history and had HHH come out from Gorilla to congratulate them.

Probably better than what Braun Strowman is offering on RAW

Second I don't mean it as its not good enough for RAW, I mean that RAW crowds are non-plussed with stuff much better and more importantly WAY better known than these guys.

How can they become better known unless they get put on RAW and allowed to show their stuff? Roman Reigns wasn't well known to RAW crowds at first.

What, are we just going to keep recycling old faces from the Attitude Era to pop the crowd instead of giving new talented faces a chance?

I really don't understand this mentality. Why not just make a small part of the THREE HOURS of RAW dedicated to Cruiserweights? Why is them getting crickets (which won't happen by the way) any worse than a Shining Stars match or a Nia Jax match getting crickets?

The difference being the cruiserweights are actually entertaining of course.

They most certainly will, because 90% of the roster does already. Neville and Apollo Crewes, who are miles more polished and well known than this lot, get nearly no reaction at all, despite (on nevilles part) very strong booking. Be realistic, man. There is plenty of stuff on raw that is "good" that isn't over in the least.

I don't disagree its a nice little slice of fun in three hours of raw, what I'm saying is the division will get shot in the head when it doesn't get over, and id rather see it thrive in a place were it will be appreciated.

As usual, you're right NorCal. I'm putting too much faith in Vince not squashing those tiny Japanese men with his monster-of-the-month.

Gargano/Ciampa was probably the best match of round 1. Considering both were pros and got to showcase stuff instead of one person person basically owning the contest like most matches were.

Jack Gallagher impressed the fuck out of me.

I enjoyed him immensely more than Saber Jr.

Aichner and Gallagher were both sick. I knew I was going to like Gallagher ever since Bracketology. After seeing all of Round 1, he's my new favorite to root for.

He's got Tozawa in the next round, and as with most of the second round matchups I'm sure the contest will be awesome, but considering how high the machine is reportedly on Tozawa(who has been offered a full-time contract) if I were you I'd have a rooting back-up plan as I wouldn't want to get too attached to Gallagher's chances. He is very doubtful to go any further in the bracket.

Oh I have many back-ups aha. Still, Gallagher has been featured heavily ever since Bracketology and he's been very talked up by the commentators. I still have hope that he has a shot against Tozawa. Considering Sean Maluta wrestled on NXT last night, it seems he's also been given a contract and he was knocked out in the first. Although I like Tozawa as well so either way, I'm good.

Gallagher is honestly bae, I loved it.

Ciampa/Gargano was a freaking masterpiece which manages to tie into their shtick with the NXT Tag champs. I was almost crying by the end. See what happens when you give people even just a little backstory to their match?

People have been hyping up the wrong British wrestler. Gallagher has more personality and charisma in his moustache than ZSJ has in his entire body.
