Could Shane Douglas Force Another Revolution

With him talking about relaunching the brand not just having a one time reunion, could it bring a change to wrestling like ECW did back in the 90's. Every interview i have heard he sounds like he has got a lot riding on this. saying he has been planing this for a year, bringing in new talent not just ECW originals, and trying to change the face of wrestling again. I was a huge fan of ECW back in the day and believe that without it there would have been no Attitude Era, because frankly there wouldnt have been the talent to pull it off. No hardcore guys for them to "steal" away from ECW. And with the way the last event at the Arena ended with Sami Callahan pretty much ripping into ECW and the Extreme guys from the past. I can see a feud starting right there and there could be hope for this to succeed. But what do you guys think? I pretty much think if they get the investors behind them, like Shane is saying he has a lot gonna be watching, and they get a TV deal. They could be doing numbers like TNA within a year or so maybe sooner with the die hard ECW fans they pulled a 1.0 on TNN. So please discuss.

here is the clip if you guys didnt see it before.

I love the OG ECW. It reinvigorated my love for wrestling when I hadn't watched since I was a wee lad.

As much as I love it, I don't ever want to see somebody recreate it. Especially somebody who isn't Paul Heyman. Paul was the brains behind ECW and the reason for it's successes (and also it's failures, because he's a shitty buisnessman) not Shane.

ECW did the same for me back in 1995 when I first went to a show I was 14 had no idea what it was, it happened to be Heat Wave 95 (chairshot heard round the world) and I was a fan ever since. If i was only older I could have enjoyed it a little more and that is one reason i am hoping this relaunch succeeds. I think the industry needs a new kick in the ass. and i think The Franchise could be the one to do it.

I saw an old ECW show at a very small ice skating center in the town of Indiana Pennsylvania when I was about 17 or 18. There were maybe 200 people in attendance. I was shocked they had even came so of course me and my friend got pretty cheap front row seats. It was amazing. They action was so intense even for a small show like that. I was a fan of them before that day but after that I was in love. That being said I am with the people that say you can't create lightning in a bottle like that more than once. I would love for it to work, and catch on, but I just don't think it will. Even if it does catch on it won't be the same for me. In the days of ECW and the Attitude era everything just fell into place so perfectly. I hope Shane does succeed, but I don't think he is going to start another revolution.

It'd be nice if Shane succeeded but I can't help think that it's a bit like flogging a dead horse. Good luck to him, the competition would really benefit the WWE, but I just can't see it working out.

If Shane has backers and investers behind this project then maybe it could become a permanent wrestling company, and be an alternative to TNA or ROH but another revolution? Come on now.

ECW was the perfect brand for the perfect time. Everything fitted together perfectly and made it the success it was. At no other time in wrestling history would a promotion built on violence, blood and barbed wire (with alot of great wrestling sprinkled on top) have made it as far as it did and become a national promotion.

I fully expect Shane to utilise alot of the old ECW guys, all of whom are far far past their prime now- ECW ended a decade ago! If he is serious about wanting to start another revolution, he needs to try and do something new and different, not try and recreate the original ECW.

I hope he succeeds, but doubt he will.

Shane had the backers when he was handed the book for Rob Black's XWF (of whatever that shower of shite was called) and all he did was drive low attendances even lower and piss off just about every promotion across the country (especially those in Philly). Douglas is too old, too out of touch and, honestly, too much of a mark for himself to be able to pull it off a second time. He was just lucky he was chosen to be the NWA champion so he got the chance to throw the belt down, otherwise he'd only be remembered for being a crappy teacher in WWF, puking on camera in TNA and making various threats/challenges to Ric Flair

I don't know if he wants to start a revolution, but in a recent interview I think he said he wants to continue what ecw was before they died back in 2001. He wants to continue that type of product because he feels that it's that type of show that fans would want to see as opposed to the crap that is wwe and tna. He said back in 92, when wcw and wwf started to suck, in came ecw and changed everything. I agree that ecw wasn't getting old or boring before it died in 2001. When wwe relaunched ecw back in 2006, me and every other ecw fan thought it was going to be where it left off from. But it wasn't to be and that's why I'm no longer an avid wwe fan. Those days are gone.
