Could CM Punk have made it in the original ECW?

Oh yes...A thread I can sink my teeth into...

Without reading through all the replies, I have to give him a resounding yes, but with a disclaimer. He'd have fit in perfectly in the early days ('93-'96). The guys that were really drawing for ECW were guys like Jericho, Guerrero, Mysterio, Guerrera...The fans loved watching actual wrestling since, at the time, WCW and WWE had their heads up their asses. He may not have been a top guy, going for the title, but he would most certainly have been a major player, been in a lot of high-profile matches, and in the long run, might have been a bigger success than he is right now. He would have been one of the launching pads of the "Attitude Era", and his personality could have been dynamic at that point in wrestling history.

It's so difficult to answer this question because there have been so many incarnations of Punk from Mid-South to now. The Mid-South Punk in fact seemed like he was straight out of ECW. The way that he infuriated and angered fans in his promos was a sign of this. His wrestling style would go well with the technical, fast-paced wrestling of Jericho, Guerrero and Benoit.

I think it would have been a great idea to bring him into ECW, even if he hadn't reached his prime. Love him or hate him, the one thing that's for sure is that he's an interesting character.

I think he would have fit in very well. his outspoken nature would have been perfect, and would have fit in well if he was there during the time of Malenko, Mysterio, Jericho, and so on. Imagine some of the matches he could have put on with them at that time. Not so sure how well he would have done in the extreme hardcore matches, but I have only followed Punk in WWE, but from what I have seen ROH doesn't really do the hardcore weapons stuff. I do know he would have put on great matches. I just thought of him vs RVD or Jerry Lynn. Kinda makes me wish he did wrestle for them then.
