Compilation album: Favourite songs discovered in last 12 months

Hollywood Naitch

The current reigning and defending
I have decided to make myself a 2 cd set featuring songs I have discovered over the last 12 months. March 2010- March 2011. They can be either tracks released over the last year, or songs I have only just discovered.

I have tried to make the CD's flow, rather than skipping from genre to genre, but its hard as the songs are extremely varied

I would be very interested to see your compilation albums. Here goes:

2. Beady Eye- The Roller
3. Happy Mondays- God's Cop
4. The Twang- Get It On The Dancefloor

So, come on guys show me what you got!

Oooh! I like the idea of this thread. I have recently tried to discover a lot of music that takes me out of my normal way of enjoying music and I guess that it makes it very easy to go ahead and take part in this thread...

Dave's Greatest Hits!

CD1 (The Mainstream)

1. Someone Like You - Adele
2. OMG - Usher
3. Miami 2 Ibiza – Swedish House Mafia
4. Written In The Stars – Tinie Tempah
5. Dynamite – Taio Cruz
6. Only Girl (In The World) - Rihanna
7. Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
8. Power – Kanye West
9. Promise This – Cheryl Cole
10. Love You More - JLS
11. All Time Low – The Wanted
12. Ridin' Solo – Jason Derulo

CD 2 (The Alternative)

1. Na Na Na – My Chemical Romance
2. Rise Against – Prayer Of The Refugee
3. For He's A Jolly Good Felon – LostProphets
4. Hurricane – 30 Seconds To Mars
5. Heart In My Hands - TRUSTcompany
6. Love The Way You Lie – Eminem ft. Rihanna
7. I Need A Doctor – Jay Z ft. Eminem
8. Papilon - Editors
9. Do It Like A Dude – Jessie J
10. Dirty Talk – Wynter Gordon
11. Bounce - MSTRKRFT
12. Pendulum – Watercolour

I am well aware that a few of these songs were not released in 2010 through 2011. However, they are songs that I had not heard before that time zone and I feel as though that counts.

Personally, I have tried to make it flow as much as possible, especially in the second disk. The first disk is very much just a mash-up what what I would look for in a mainstream CD. I think it hits all of the right spots with all different types of music on there. I started it off with Adele because that song is utterly beautiful and she will be getting covered in my Two Songs Of The Day game in a couple of hours hopefully. I tried to fit as many different types of songs on there and was happy with the way that it turned out.

The second disk is where I would put my money into. I know that a lot of people wouldn't like the look of it because I have tried to find the balance of Rap/Dance/Rock in one CD and that tends to put people off but I really like the way that it turned out. I still feel as though there would be enough mainstream acts on there that ordinary listeners wouldn't feel disenchanted listening to it. Jessie J and Eminem are two acts that could appeal to the casual listener whilst the other song son the CD would blow them out of the water. Rise Against are still a band that I kick myself for not getting into sooner and I feel as though they deserve a spot on there. I think that I have found a nice balance there and if I was buying a CD, that would likely be it!

I like the idea here. I've really listened to a lot of songs both in the genre's I'm more accustomed too and others that I'm less fond of and found some excellent singles. I tried to split this into 'The Light' and the 'The Dark'. Disc One is songs that I found to be more pleasant and light-hearted, while the others on Disk 2 are sinister in their tone and quite dark.

Some of the song's are quite new, others not so much, so here's my attempt at a two disk compilations album:

Disc 1: The Light:
1: Hazel Fernandes - Number One
2: Tobymac - Ignition
3: Cee Lo Green - Bright Lights, Bigger City
4: Tinie Temaph - Written in the Stars
5: K'Naan - Wavin' Flag
6: Erasure - Always
7: Aquagen - Everybody's Free
8: I Fight Dragons - Money
9: Motorhead - Ace of Spades (Acoustic Version)
10: Paul Engemann - Push it to the Limit
11: The Next Door - Indestructible
12: Weird Al Yankovic - Don't Download This Song

Disc 2: The Dark:
1: Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up
2: Elvis - Trouble
3: Hail the Villain - Runaway
4: Biffy Clyro - Many of Horror
5: Unkle - When Things Explode
6: Nine Inch Nails - Closer
7: Placebo – Running Up That Hill
8: AC/DC - The Razor's Edge
9: Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Dani California
10: Porcelain and the Tramps - King of the World
11: Tech N9ne - Show Me a God
12: Voltaire - When You're Evil

Sweet idea. I rarely find anything that I like that most people would consider "new", but I do stumble across tracks that I have never heard before. I'm only going to make one CD because besides one rap group, I haven't really found anyone new recently on that front.

Machine Gun Blues- Social Distortion
Action and Action- The Get Up Kids
I'm Going to Hell for this one- NoFx
MoneyGrabber- Fitz and the Tantrums
The Longest Time- Billy Joel
A Slow Drag with Josephine- Elvis Costello
Feeling Good- Nina Simone
So What- Miles Davis
More- The Tellers
The Rooster- Atmosphere
My Favourite Game- The Cardigans
All out of Love- Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Turn You Inside Out- R.E.M.

Nice idea for a thread. Here's my compilation album:

A Year In The Life Of Rob (the soundtrack)

Tinie Tempah feat. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars
Eminem - Space Bound
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Nicole Scherzinger - Poison
Cee Lo Green - Fuck You
David Guetta - Memories
Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror
Alister Griffin - Just Drive
Pendulum - The Island (Part One)
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Sub Focus - Splash
Eminem - Not Afraid
Devlin feat. Yasmin - Runaway
Rent Broadway Cast - I'll Cover You (reprise)

I've gone for a simple, randomly listed set of songs that I absolutely love. There isn't any real flow to the album, it starts off with an almighty high and then after a few songs we're rocking out to The Who and we finish off with one of the most moving songs I've ever heard in I'll Cover You.

I'll throw down one of these mix tapes homeys, electronic style; but what else would you expect from me.

I'll stay within the criteria, but I'll take it a step further and keep it to electronic music that has been released withing the last twelve months. I'll also go with the trend of using twelve tracks, filling up all 80 minutes can be a bitch, ya dig.

I'll be going artist - song - album, just so you know.

1. Ample Mammal - Spacecrunkadelix Pt.1 - Mating season
2. The Glitch Mob - Starve The Ego, Feed The Soul - Drink The Sea
3. VibeSquaD - Empower The Wallflower - The Fire
4. The Polish Ambassador - Hiding From Fawn - First Words
5. Beats Antique - Grandstand - Blind Threshold
6. Skrillex - With Your Friends - My Name Is Skrillex EP
7. Dirty Art Club - Sincerely Yours, The D.A.C. - Heavy Starch
8. Ilija Rudman - Twenty Questions - The Reveal
9. Big Gigantic - Breaking Point - A Place Beyond The Moon
10. El Ten Eleven - Cease and Persist - It's Still Like a Secret
11. Invisible Allies - Turquoise Rain Chant (Erothyme Remix) - Hyperdimensional Animals
12. Shpongle - Before The Big Bang - God Particle EP

This fine mix of songs comes in just over an hour long, still room for more if I wanted, but I'm quite content with this mix.

This mix has a little bit of everything on it, we start off with a little Ample Mammal, who actually made his debut within the last year and leads off this mix with a funky west coast glitch hop track that's sure to wet the pallet. Glitch Mob and Vibesquad are up next providing ample amounts of bass and melody, a combination executed to perfection. Next up we have a Polish Ambassador track off his double album First Words, a six minute tracks that plays with the emotions, up next Beats Antique provide a little electronic/world influences with their unique tribal sounds. Skrillex with the new era of dubstep, followed by Dirty Art Clubs unique trip-hop style then topped off with a little funk, Ilija Rudman style. Big Gigantic provides an epic touch of saxophone/keyboard love, El Ten Eleven with the electronic rock as well as being linked to my new thread on post/prog rock, Awww Yeah! We finish this sucker off the ambient touch, BlueTech and KiloWatts combine their powers to become Hyperdimensional Animals and we finish this bitch off in style with a 2011 drop from Psy Trance GAWDS Shpongle.

I threw in six videos as well, all of which are worth listening to, a little something for everybody, as they say.
