While I think the "disfigured" gimmick is somewhat stuck in neutral, it's got far more range then the "Dashing" gimmick ever did. The "Dashing" gimmick was limited in the sense that it was cute and it gave Cody something other then being "formerly in Legacy", but it wasn't a serious gimmick, and certainly not a main event one. Someone pointed out that he got a tag title run with the gimmick, but the tag titles meant screw-all then as they do now, and the reign lasted all of three weeks.
The "Disfigured" gimmick is the best thing for Cody's career. There seems to be thought and effort put into every promo, without a wasted moment. His ring work has matched that effort of not wasting a movement. This gimmick allowed him to get involved in a serious storyline, one that garnered him a win over Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania. What feuds did he have with the "Dashing" gimmick? I dont recall any, which is very telling. The "Disfigured" gimmick is one that allows him to have more layers in his character, and real feuds as well.
The final reason I say no is this: I look at the Smackdown version of Money in the Bank and it screams a Cody win to me. MITB would eventually lead into a feud with Randy Orton, and which gimmick would better serve Cody in a feud with his former mentor? The arrogant, mirror-gazing one that won a Divas poll, or the Disfigured, dark one? In a feud where their pasts will very likely be played up, Orton vs Rhodes will be a battle of which could go darker. The "Dashing" gimmick was fun, but it wasn't a serious main event gimmick.
