Chris Jericho or Brett Hart?

Disturbed

Championship Contender
I have been having a debate with a friend on who the better overall wrestler is, Y2J or The Hitman. This has to do with everything not just in ring or mic skills. It can be decided by ring skill, mic skill, draws, feuds, pretty much anything.

I went with Chris Jericho. Sure Brett was good but he was no Chris Jericho. Brett Hart's best match was with Shawn Michaels but Jericho also had memorable matches with HBK. Chris Jericho has put on better matches than Hart has in their career. If you don't believe me check out the Jericho and Benoit matches, Jericho and Triple H's Hell in a Cell, Jericho and Angle, Jericho and HBK, Jericho and Steve Austin, Jericho and The Rock, Jericho and Edge from 2002 (which is way better than 2010 btw) and their are many more. Brett Hart has also had great matches but I don't think they are as good as Hart's in my opinion. Look at the statistics, Jericho is a 4 time tag champ, 8 time ic, and 5 time world champ.

That was in ring ability so I'll switch over to mic skills. Brett Hart was decent on the mic but I also don't think he was as good as Jericho. Jericho could go out their and get every single person in the arena either on their feet cheering or booing him out the building. Brett Hart was also good at getting the crowd involved with him being one of the most popular superstars of all time. But once again he cannot talk like Jericho.

I basically explained above that Jericho draws better and Jericho has been in more intense personal feuds than Brett Hart.

I don't know how anyone could say Chris Jericho has had more memorable matches. Everyone you mentioned aren't memorable. They were great matches but they aren't talked about like Bret's matches were. Chris Jericho's most memorable match with Shawn Michaels may be his only one. Chris never really got over until recently. He was not seen as a main eventer until his return 2007. Bret always stayed at the main evnt when he got there.

Let's see, let's start out with Bret vs. Austin Wrestlemania 13. How many times will you or have you heard people refer to this "I Quit" match. Probably is what made Austin's carrer. The double turn at the ending was classic. Austin turning face and Bret turning somewhat heel. Tell me this wasn't better than any match you listed.

Another match, Owen vs. Bret. Hart vs. Hart. Brother vs. Brother. This match really is what started the whole jaelous brother feud we see today with the Bros. Of Destruction or the Hardys. The one brother that is jaelous of the others sucess. Bret finally gets pissed enough to fight his brother at wresltmania 10. Another great classic.

Bret vs. Davey Boy Smith. The first time Vince Mcmahon let the Intercontinental Title Main event a PPV. One of the big four to be exact. Summerslam 92. All the Harts in attendence really added to the feud and match. This could've been a WWF title match but it really brought prestige to the IC title no doubt about it. One of the true classics and really made the IC title what it was for a very long time.

Bret vs. Owen summerslam 94 I believe. The best cage match in history. After Owen went so far to stop Bret from Winning another WWF title at Wrestlemania, Bret won it again. What's so great about this match is that it set the stage for today's hell in the cell and cage matches. You have two guys beating the shoit out of each other, but yet, no bleeding or extrme violence. It shows us that a steel cage match or hell in the cell doesn't need blood, or people falling from the top to be considered a classic.

I could go on and on, Bret is better. Jericho has had some great, entertaining matches, but what Bret had were classics. Matches we will talk about tomorrow and forever. There's no doubt that Bret could draw better. He led a whole movement of great IC title matches with Hennig and others. Chris Jericho may have the upper hand on mic skills, but Bret has left a bigger legacy in the ring.

This of course taking nothing from one of the greatest in Chris Jericho.

I love both these guys so it's hard for me to decide. Jericho was more charismatic but I always found Bret's promos believable. To me, he always seemed like a normal guy...that happened to wear hot pink and wrestle for a living. I realize that being believable is not always a wrestler's main goal but I wanted to mention what made Bret's promos stand out for me.

In terms of wrestling skills, again, Jericho was a lot more flashy but Bret wrestled more believable matches. I always got the impression watching him that someone forgot to tell him that it wasn't real. He was always able to make me suspend my disbelief and I would get sucked into the stories he would tell in the ring.

If we're going on overall entertainment, I would pick Jericho but as far as wrestling goes, Bret wins hands down, I think. I just wish they could've feuded at some point.

Jericho and Hart are just about tied for my favorite wrestler of all time, so this is a very hard question. Jericho probably has the edge when it comes to mic skills and is better at the high-risk moves (top rope moves, springboard, dives etc.). Bret did occasionally do a dive or slingshot over the rope, which at the time were kind of impressive, but are kinda weak in comparison to what Jericho has done. But when it comes down to in ring technical ability Bret is definitely the better of the two. Jericho isn't a slouch by any means in the ring, but Bret just had a way in the ring few can match that was just so believable. So it really comes down to personal preference, Jericho is the flasher of the two, while Hart is the more scientific, and if I was absolutely forced to pick one, my personal preference gives The Hitman a very slight edge.

Bret Hart is better than Chris Jericho because while Jericho is better on the mic, he loses to Hart in the other categories. Hart was better in the ring, had more skill, drew more, had better feuds, had better matches (disregarding the 2010 return), and had more memorable title reigns. Jericho is awesome but he is not as good as Bret Hart, who is a legend among legends.

This is a NO Brainer! Fans that REALLY know wrestling, know that Bret Hart is way better than Jericho! Bret has better Ring Skills, wrestled alot better in the ring, sold injury a bit better! I dont think Jericho ever wrestled/Entertained to his potential! His mic skills are Average! Guys like Eddie G. and Benoit were better than Jericho, but not better overall than Bret Hart.

Bret wins this by a mile. I love Jericho but Bret is one of the greatest ever, maybe the greatest. Bret had way more memorable matches, many of which are still considered the best of all time. His title reigns are far more historic and important that jericho's, he drew more and was the face off the WWF for pretty much the whole 90's until the screw job. So yeah, I dont know how anyone could think Jericho is better than Bret, just cant.

Coming from a Bret mark I would actually have to go with Jericho.

Although Bret has had more memorable matches (not many I may ad) I feel he can't measure to Jericho in any other category. One thing I'll mention is Jericho is no slouch in the wrestling category as he is one of my favorites inside the ring and has had more than his fair share of memorable matches.

Jericho on the mic and promo's was hands down superior to Bret as Jericho had a lot more going for him than his work inside the ring. Jericho was one of the best on the mic and Bret was just good enough to get by and only showed real solid mic skills during his whole 'I hate America' phase.

Jericho also has more charisma than Bret (and that's a huge compliment considering how popular Bret is overseas). Jericho could get a great reaction from the fans every time whether as a heel or a face, not only that he did well as both a heel and face in any company he worked for whereas Bret only really thrived in a WWE locker room, in WCW he sunk quickly and even though Jericho was a lot lower on the totem pole, he definitely made the best with what he was given. They're pretty close in this category but I'll give Jericho the slight edge.

I'll give them a tie in feuds because they've both had plenty of good feuds, Jericho/Malenko, Bret/Owen, Jericho/The Rock, Bret/Austin, Jericho/Michaels, Bret/Michaels, the list goes on and on. Its too hard to choose one for this category so I'll just go with both.

Lastly in the longevity category I'll also have to give this to Jericho. Jericho spent a lot more time in the main event scene than Bret ever did (Bret did about 3 years in stampede and 5 years in the WWE where Jericho did about 10 years in the WWE). Not only that, Jericho got over everywhere he went and like I said before, always did the most with what he was given. Both guys were reliable and had great and long careers, but overall I would say Jericho's is a more memorable career top to bottom.

Both are great wrestlers, both are 2 of my all time favorites (with Bret being my favorite) but all in all I got to give this one to Jericho, he was just better than Bret in too many categories.

I gotta go with Jericho here on this one. While you could make a strong case for either guy when it comes to work rate and in ring ability and it would be close, but when it comes to promo's and charisma it's no contest ! Jericho is MILES away from Hart and just so much better !

Chris has also really gotten to another level in the past few years, he's never been better, while Hart to me is one of those guys that's a bit overrated . I just never saw the guy as being that special.

I have never been much of a Bret Hart fan. I liked him much more from about 1988-1992. Then I started to get tired of him. I liked his Hart Foundation Faction angle of 1997. But the years when he was expected to carry the company, I thought he was wack. Like I said, I got really tired of him and started to pull for him to lose most of his matches. I was way pulling for Owen when they would have their matches. Especially at Summer Slam 1994 when they had their Steel Cage match for The WWF Championship.

Chris Jericho on the other hand I feel much differently about. From the time he was in ECW, to the WCW Cruiserweight run, to the Millenium Man, to The Best In The World At What He Does. I have always pulled for him. I thought he was underrated and overlooked in his early days in WCW, yet in my opinion STILL shined!!

I think he is better in ring than Bret, I don't care what anyone says. He is worlds ahead of him on the mic. Jericho is as much better on the mic, than Bret is better than Hulk Hogan in the ring lol.

Though Bret was also good as a Heel and a Face. I think Jericho was better at both. Especially as a Heel.

I won't take anything away from Bret. He deserves his accolades and I am not trying to disrespect the guy. I just think between him and Jericho, there is no comparison.

Y2J ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well this is a tough question but I would go with Bret for two reasons.

1) Bret was great both as a heel as well as a face. Unlike Crooked I, I think Jericho was somewhat boring as a face especially when he returned to "save" the WWE Universe from Randy Orton. In his first run as a face in the WWF he was just a midcarder. He rose to the main event when he turned heel against The Rock. Bret on the other hand may not have been the most charismatic guy around but he drew well both as a face as well as a heel. No one thought he could ever work as a heel but he did and the Hart Foundation is considered one of the best heel stables of all time.

2) Bret played a huge role in making the greatest superstar of the 90's ie Stone Cold Steve Austin. I'm sure Jericho has elevated many people and had many great feuds. But none have been greater than this feud that Bret had with Austin. He gave the rub to possibly the second biggest superstar of all time and I feel that should count as a part of his legacy.

In the ring I feel Bret was more rounded than Jericho. I disagree with the OP that Bret's best match was against Shawn at Wrestlemania 12. His work with Austin as well as with Owen was much better than that match. Bret could have a great match with anyone: a brawler like Austin, a technician like his brother Owen, a high flyer like Hakushi as well as with power guys like Diesel and Yokozuna. Jericho has had great matches too but Bret has performed excellently against a greater variety of opponents.
