I also enjoy his viewpoint that if taken correctly, they can actually improve your life quality in the long hall, though I haven't seen that definitive scientific proof, the theory is still intriguing.

I think you're over analyzing what he saying. There are several types of steroids. Some not as bad as others. He's saying if you take them in its cycle and not overkill the dosage it will improve your life style. And by lifestyle he means looks. Because he goes into talking about how it can make you look years younger. So that's my guess or at least my interpretation of that theory.

True, I'm also just going off of memory from when the book first came out.

I say it definitely makes the game more interesting, I grew up watching baseball in what would be considered the early beginnings and the heart of the steroid era. As a Padre fan I had at one point the ultimate non steroid user in Gwynn, and one of the biggest users in Caminiti on the same team; though Gwynn is in an elite class that few others are in, and Caminiti is the perfect example for the rise and fall of steroids.
