Celebrities in politics ?

GSM

YOU RULED THE WORLD LONG ENOUGH !!!
Over the years many celebritites have tried to be succesful in politics, some have done it like Ronald Reagon and even Arnold Schwarzenegger an austrian immigrant became governour of California.

And those two may be some of the good examples but unfortunately there are always "stars" that actually think they could lead a town or even a nation or whatever.

Isn´t this behaviour watering down the importance of skilled politicians ?
Isn´t it also ridicoulus that someone who starred in two B-movies can actually be elected ?
Some would say it is everyones right to elect who they want, but shouldn´t some people like Paris Hilton for example be filtered out ?

I think some people shouldn´t be able to be elected if they´re not able to proof that they could lead a nation or a city and not ruin it completely.

Some would say that it doesn´t matter because those people aren´t goint to be elected anyway.

What do you think ?

In California, it is easier for a celebrity to become a politician. Sonny Bono was a respected and effective Congressman, as well. How do you define celebrity? Tom Osborne, former Nebraska football coach and current Athletic Director, is as big of a celebrity as you will find in Nebraska, and he was a very respected Senator. John Glenn, Congressman from Ohio, was an astronaut. Are these people considered "celebrities"? Maybe, maybe not, but they traded on their bit of fame to get into office and worked hard to make the country better, and for that, they should be applauded.

Like who? I mean, what "stars" have run for office that are so stupid they would run their city, state, country, or municipality into the ground?

A skilled politician is nothing more than a deal maker. Actors, athletes, etc. are involved in multi-million dollar deals all the time, and have to have a basic understanding of contract law to do this. Furthermore, they understand the power of negotiation, the virtue of patience, and the ability to schmooze. I think all of these things are helpful for politicians. The difference lies in the disconnect celebrities have from normal people. Politicians get this too. The longer they spend in Washington, the less they know the common man. Ask President Obama how much a gallon of milk costs. (I imagine his advisors keep him abreast of this because the tactic has been used to embarass politicians for years.)

Isn´t it also ridicoulus that someone who starred in two B-movies can actually be elected ?

No. Why should being an actor disqualify someone from political office? The great thing about this country is that everyone can make a difference. Charles Barkley wants to be governor of Alabama. Should he be disqualified for never winning an NBA championship? B movies and trophies aren't reasons for disqualifications. Bad voting records, lack of experience, and terrible state Senate attendance don't disqualify Presidential candidates.

The filters are built in. We don't vote by text message. You have to be an adult to vote. Everyone only votes once. If you're worried about Paris Hilton being President, you need to stop with the drugs, or pass something to me that makes my brain work like yours. That would be fun.
I think some people shouldn´t be able to be elected if they´re not able to proof that they could lead a nation or a city and not ruin it completely.

There is no guarantee of success. Everyone like to bash George Bush. He was an incredibly popular and successful governor in Texas, and in some opinions, his Presidency didn't pan out. Conversely, Obama was a worthless state senator, a worse US senator, and half the country thinks he is Jesus.
Some would say that it doesn´t matter because those people aren´t goint to be elected anyway.

They won't be. Stop worrying.
What do you think ?

I already told you, silly.

Politics is a joke, now. There is no longer a standard as there was at the dawn of our nation, where great men, men who led troops to victory in battle, men who suffered hardships, men who believed in Democracy and freedom, were considered.

Now, any joker with a US birth certificate can run for office, and it's a disgrace.

The decline of our nation, both economically, and, to some degree, socially can be linked to the men who have been in office.

George Bush, in my opinion, was not qualified to run a Burger King. A C student was elected President of this country, and most of our problems now can be linked to him.

I am neither a Democrat or a Republican. Left and right wings have no bearing on me, as the mightiest bird needs both wings to fly.

Celebrities, people trained as actors and musicians, do not have the qualifications to be politicians.

Yes, Regan was a pretty good President, but he is the exception. I am not implying that there aren't any intelligent, political minded celebrities out there. But, I firmly believe that anyone running for a political office should have to pass some type of test, or meet some basic criteria.

On a wrestling note, has anyone ever heard Kane speak on economics? This is a man who talks about setting people on fire in the ring, and yet, what I've heard from him makes me firmly believe that he is an intelligent man, FAR more intelligent than our former President.

You cannot judge a book by its cover. But, there needs to be some type of entrance exam, some type of certificate of qualification to be issued to every candidate running for office.

I believe there should be a psychological screening as well, to make sure the guy with his finger on the button isn't a maniac.

It's amazing how the fate of the world, a group of billions, is controlled by so few. It scares me at times. We, as the citizens, have lost control of our Government. Things are done behind our backs with no input, no votes from us. It seems like the only thing we have control over is WHO gets in, but not how they conduct themselves.

Currently, in the state of New York, our State Government is in shambles. It is the most corrupt, disgraceful, sickening and anti-Democratic state Government in the USA. Yet, nothing can be done. We put these animal bastards in power, and until election day, we're powerless to do anything.

I think even Democracy is dated. There needs to be a new standard, and soon, or else we'll wake up one morning to see that sunrise tinted mushroom cloud on the horizon.

God help us. I think only He can.
