Canceled before it's time.

Anybody remember Sports Night? This was a great show that I felt was ahead of its time in television. I felt the show was innovative, funny, and dramatic. There were only two seasons which is a shame. That show had a lot of potential and could have had a good run. If you’ve never seen it I suggest you check it out. You don’t have to be a sports fan to be a fan of Sports Night.

Wrestling Society X.... lol

Honestly though, SciFi did one season of The Dresden Files which is based off the book series. It was what you'd think: a cheesy SyFy original series. But I really like the books and the show was cool. They're continuing to make books, but I guess the show didn't do well enough to continue... I miss it :(

My first choice for this thread is:

Sliders- I thought this was a great show. I loved the concept of a young kid (Jerry O'Connell) and some of his friends that travelled through parallell Earths with quirky outcomes with a remote control he had. Each one, one the world had tornadoes everywhere, another, his one friend who sang was the second coming of Elvis, and things like that. I truly don't remember if they ever made it home or not. But this show was just cool in all the different worlds they hit, and and I loved not knowing what the next universe would be that they would step into.

Quantum Leap- This is along the same line of Sliders. You loved how it tied into the course of history. Sam had the chance to change/alter/keep history in its place. I was still quite young when this was on, so I don't know if they ended it early and had him leap home or not, but I always loved Scott Bakula, plus he's a fellow Kansan (KU grad.) I loved how he was able to look in the mirror or any reflective surface at the end of each show and you couldn't wait for the next week when he said "Oh Boy."

Without A Trace-I'm a huge crime-drama fan. I thought this was great. The show opens with a situation, then you see the FBI bureau get their information and the whole show builds around them finding the person, or trying to figure out the what and why behind the person's disappearance. Plus there was quite a bit of internal drama behind the scenes of the investigation. I so loved their boss, played by LaPaglia, he's always a great actor.

I don't think this has been done, and if it has I do appologize and will take whatever penalties are met.

Anyway, it's a simple topic... What classic TV show do you wish would be brought back for the current public? Be it reruns or even a new season/spin-off series.

With me, there's three shows that I've always wanted to see more and more of.

1. Freakazoid - Simply put, it was the best cartoon ever created. A comedic superhero that didn't get too outrageous. I realize that they finished off the series so all I ask is that they make a good rerun on CN or even Boomerang.

2. Street Sharks - Second best cartoon ever created. IMO, way better than Ninja turtles which gets revived every three months it seems. I remember waking up every saturday and watching this show to death.

3. Saved by the bell - Honestly, if the company that owns it right now sold the rights to Nickelodeon's TeenNick outlet, I could see them doing a next generation revamp on it with an all new cast and giving it the Degrassi twist. To me, it would be a nice touch on an old classic.

Gargoyles: I used to love watching this show and the creator has talked about possibly bringing it back at some period of time.

Justice League: Some form of this show. This was probably my favorite non-anime cartoon(with the exception of Cartoon Cartoons and classics), I know it went on for a while but I love any incarnation of it, be Super Friends or JLU.

Beavis And Butthead: This may be closer to reality than the others. There was a report months back that there is some deal in place to make new episodes of this. I loved this show and would love it if they brought it back.

The next one would be if they were to bring the manga back and then base the show off of it but...

Dragonball Z(whatever it would be called): Z ended years ago in America and much longer ago in Japan. I always felt however that it wasnt a fulfilling ending. And while they made GT, it isnt canon so it doesnt count, not to mention it was terrible. Toriama is heavily involved in the online DB universe so I only have to wonder if hes getting the itch again. I hope he is, because 1 final arc would be a truly grand event.

Undergrads. Canceled after one F'n Season!!! gimme a break. That show was awesome.

Undeclared. Most of the cast has gone on to be big comedy stars now, but the show only went 2 seasons, again, Fox dropped the ball here. It was really funny and I would have loved to see it brought back.

The Sopranos - To much was left open at the end of the series, I understand that David Chase did that with the show a few times for example we never learned the fate of the Russian back in season 3 but to end the series like that wasn't the right move. Did Tony die at the end, if not then does he get indicted because Carlo became an informant? Is Silvio gonna come out of coma? If Tony is dead, does AJ man up and go into the family business? Plus many other things. The show only lasted 6 seasons with only 86 episodes, with the way the screen just goes black to end the series, most fans were not pleased of that being the ending. It would be nice to see at least one more season to clear up some things.

Deadwood. It was ended far to quickly and there was still plenty to be told. There really needed to be some kind of closure between Swerenger and Bullock. Not to mention everything that could have happened between the rest of the characters. I would have loved to have seen a fight between Dan Dority and Silas Adams, not to mention see how the Doc turned out. If he got well or died. The point is, HBO killed Deadwood far to early and really didn't give it the proper time to tell its story, which was an amazing one to that point. Now we will never now if Deadwood was ever civilized or not, but it would be cool if they did bring it back to give it some sort of closure.

The first show I want back is My Name Is Earl. This show ended way to prematurely on NBC. It would be nice if they came back for a season or two and actually have a proper send off.

The second show is Boy Meets World. They could have done another season. Corey, Topanga, Shawn, and Angela weren't finished with college yet. They still had at least another year. Although their send off was epic. We could have seen what happened between Shawn and Angela in a long distance relationship. How Eric, Rachel and Shawn's brother did after college and how Corey and Topanga's relationship lasted. I don't their older now so probably wouldn't be great if they brought it back. So I would like at least a spin off.

The Twilight Zone: What an amazing show, sure it might never reach the pure quality of the original series but I would sure love to see them try. Even if we only got a handful of great episodes I would watch faithfully, such a fantastic tv show and concept.

Whose Line Is It Anyway: I wish this show had never ended as it is the funniest thing I believe I have seen on TV. If Ryan and Collin were brought back at the very least, all the cult fans of this show would watch without question, I cannot name a single episode that didnt have one laugh out loud moment and I feel we would have the same hilarious show if it was brought back.

Whats My Line?: MUCH less wanted then my other two choices, but I enjoy watching clips of Whats My Line on youtube, sometimes trying to guess what profession the person has (once they had a professional wrestler on the show, I never came close to guessing that). While this show is nowhere near as good as the above two, I enjoyed it and wouldnt mind seeing a comeback.

The Weakest Link. I know its not necessarily a "show" but if a gameshow counts thats my vote.

Russian Roulette was a good one too, and Friend or Foe.

Twilight Zone: Not in the style of the crappy reboots, but in the style of the old one's.

Invader Zim: Quite possibly one of the best cartoons of all-time.

Cat-Dog: One of my favorite cartoon. There really isn't anything you can't do with a cat and dog joined together.

Finally, Dexter's Laboratory: Best cartoon ever. I loved this show, and still love it today.

FlashForward was one of the shows that was, objectively, canceled before its time. I mean, it really was canceled before its time, regardless of how you feel about the show (I personally loved it). I believe the first season left off with a cliffhanger, and they just didn't green light another season. I recall lots of people liking the show, or at the very worst, moderately interested in what's going to happen next, but it was just canceled.

Then again, this is NBC we're talking about here.

I dont need to add anything since these are all the ones I'd want.

I would also add to that list the Fox 1990's Captain America show that never aired.

Thundercats

As a little kid, Lion-O was my hero, I had all the action figures and the life size "Sword of Omens"...man I loved that show, it was the sh1t! I still have the feature length movive on VHS somewhere, and get it out every now and again.

Transformers

The ORIGINAL version, not the crappy Beast Wars or later generations...the classic characters like Prime, Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, Galvatron, The Dinobots etc. Again, I have the original cartoon movie (this time on DVD) and it is still AWESOME!

Skeleton Warriors

That was a cool cartoon, good theme music and skeletons who rode about on motorbikes, and could disappear into the shadows...I think. I know I loved it, but I cant remember too much about it lol

Along the lines of transformers, you know because of the robots, I would say that another Gundam Wing would be awesome to have around nowadays. With the evolution of games, they ended up killing my passion for Gundam with the horrible games, but the shows themselves will always be exciting to watch.

Here's my list of fave shows I wish was Resurrected:

1. Angel- This show was THE show for me. I mean, I was so glad to see Angel getting his own show. Helping the helpless. It even had its own good mix of comedy in it from time to time. I loved the karaoke bar with Lorne. I was sad with Doyle was killed off, (RIP Glenn Quinn.) Then you bring in Wesley, and Cordelia, all made it so good. I LOVED the bad guy, Lindsey (Christian Kane...hot.) It sucked that the show got cancelled and how the show ended with them getting ready to fight the big evil, and it just kinda faded to black, leaving you with a cliff hanger. A few years later there were rumors about a movie, then that got squashed. But thankfully we have the DVD sets to keep the memory alive.

2. Courage The cowardly Dog- for some reason, I really liked this show on Cartoon Network. This little stupid dog always running into the monsters with this old dumb owners. I always had a good time watching it. Good enough for kids, but adults would get a kick out of it too.

3. Beverly Hills 90210 (original)-I so miss those days. The Brenda, Brandon, Dylan etc. As cheesy as it was, it was awesomely addictive. I loved watching every second of these promiscuous kids in rich Beverly Hills with their problems try to be like everyday kids, yet run around with the stars.

4. Beavis and Butthead- of course I was always forbidden to watch this. But I did anyway. Their commentary on music videos is what made me laugh the hardest. The greatest thing is that this show is coming back sometime soon. I am counting down the days.

5. The State- I'm not sure if anyone remembers this show, but it gave the start for lots of people on Reno 911, and Children's Hospital, and Stella. This is ONE hilarious show. It was on Mtv, and the whole series is available on a special dvd set. It is some VERY offbeat skits, and I LOVE it.

There's actually an eighth season that's set to come out in 2011, which is why I didn't mention this show. Personally, I'm stoked about it and just hope that it's not a let down from the original series...

While we're on it, how about Celebrity Deathmatch anybody? Gotta love the classics this show put out.

Drive This was a high action high speed car racing thriller. It only lasted for I believe 2 weeks on Fox then the rest of the series was shown online with a total of 6 episodes. The reason was because it didn't get the kind of ratings that 24 did. I honestly though that this show had what it took to be the next Lost or 24. It had you asking :wtf: every 5 minutes and there wasn't a second that I was bored. If Fox had any sense they never would have canceled this masterpiece of a show.

What's up with everyone saying My Name is Earl? Not a great show in the least. Sure, I watched it here and there, but 4 seasons seems like the right amount. Anymore would've just been pushing it too far.

Arrested Development is the only choice as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely fantastic comedy series on many levels. Really hasn't been another show like it. There was so much more that could've been done with it. Alas, it was not to be.

I think it's more the way that the last season ended. Ending a show on a cliffhanger is always horrible. But it happens more then I like. I didn't even get into that show until after it was in it's last season. Now I catch one or two episodes a day.. It's really not that bad.

Heroes I was very very upset when I read online that they didnt get the people watching it like that use to (which is there own fault due to season Two being so bad) so they planned on cancelling it and to top it off they were gonnna make a mini tv movie to end the show and explain what happened and why...then they cancelled that idea too!
I Also got into flash forward but that ended as quickly as it started and explained nothing about what was happening or why or even who is who.
I hope the shows I am into now don't suddenly end or I am gonna kick some butt :)

4400 This series was infinitely better than Heroes with similar storyline of ordinary people gaining extraordinary powers. The series ended in its 4th season on a cliffhanger when half the city's population gained abilities while the other half died. They continued the story with a couple of books but it isn't the same as watching it on television.

A recently canceled show that comes to mind immediately is Party Down, which recently got the axe after only two short seasons on Starz. That show was flat out hilarious and the dramatic moments never felt forced. The cast was awesome, as was the writing. I was devastated when it was officially canceled, but luckily Adam Scott got added to the very funny Parks and Recreation cast so I still get to see him every week.

Other shows that spring to mind are Arrested Development, Jericho, Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, Profit, and My So-Called Life

Shame on everybody in this thread for not saying Arrested Development. It sadly only ran 3 (hilarious) seasons and I think its humour was a bit ahead of its time and audience. I know it was praised by critics but it just never got high enough ratings to continue which fucking sucks because it was awesome and provided us with one of the greatest comedy ensemble casts ever. On the bright side, at least it got cancelled and left us with 3 great seasons of material instead of running on and deteriorating in quality like most long-running TV shows do these days.

This. My absolute favourite American comedy series, I'm always looking for word on the potential AD movie.

I wish Garth Marenghi's Darkplace had gone on longer. It was only 6 episodes in total. Probably only intended to be that long originally anyway, but it was so great that it surely deserved to be 12 episodes.

That's the way Channel 4 tend to commission sit-coms and the like, most have 6 to 8 episodes per season. Spaced, Black Books, Father Ted, Green Wing... Most great British comedy series have very short runs.

I would have to say that "Clerks: The Animated Series" was cancelled far before it's time. It was cancelled after two episodes and only six were made. Those six, by the way, are hilarious. It was a highly clever show and had several classic moments (including the art shift in one episode). I don't know if it would've kept the comedy consistent had it not been cancelled, so it might've been a good thing, but I do believe it was cancelled before it's prime. If you ever get the chance, watch all six episodes. Laughter is guaranteed.

Got the DVD years ago, absolutely fucking loved it. Randall lecturing a man who was gushing blood about the importance of doing away with brand-name association when he asked for a band-aid was bloody priceless.

Whose Line Is It Anyway: I wish this show had never ended as it is the funniest thing I believe I have seen on TV. You do realise that between the original Channel 4 series and the US spin-off that Whose Line actually ran for about 18 years, right? Awesome show though, if you loved that, watch Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza on the Game Show Network. It's basically Whose Line without the points.

I'm gonna chip in my own tuppence here, both fairly recent series, first up is Dollhouse. I really enjoyed this and Joss Whedon originally had a five season arc all planned out. It was cancelled midway through the second series and the ending was badly rushed as a result. Shameful.

Next up is Running Wilde, only got one series and features some excellent comic talent in the form of Peter Serafinowicz, Will Arnett and, in the first episode at least, David Cross, which should please the Arrested Development fans amongst us.

Honourable mentions also to Zim, Firefly and Samurai Jack. Some of the scripts floating about for the unmade Zim episodes were amazing and Jack really does need to get back to the past and undo the future that is Aku.

EDIT -

12 Oz Mouse and Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law are two more series that I'd like to ssee more of. Damn the list goes on and on and on...
