Ricky Burns, a Scottish boxer and current WBO lightweight Champion, should not be Champion today.

But regardless of the decision, more questions about the legitimacy of boxing have been raised after Burns defence of the WBO Lightweight Championship last night in Glasgow.

There's a very good chance that my trans-Atlantic friends in the States and beyond did not watch the fight so for the sake of information, Ricky Burns and Ray Beltran tied the fight; even after Burns was knocked down in the eighth round.

The scores were 115-112 Burns, 115-113 Beltran and 114-114.

after the fight, Burns was admitted to hospital and received surgery for a broken jaw. Meanwhile, Ray Beltran told the media how he should be world Champion. And it is very hard for this on-looker to disagree with that assumption. Beltran bossed the fight and did most of the damage but still left without the gold. I think you would struggle to find one person in the boxing world who believed that Burns did enough to keep his Championship... Except those at ringside, seemingly.

Regardless, the questions of corruption in boxing begin to circle again and it is no wonder that MMA is on the rise in terms of popularity and boxing is finding itself entrenched in a new low. Beltran blames politics for his shock draw and given the evidence, it's hard to disagree.

So where do you come down on corruption in boxing? Is it killing the sport or is more made of it than what is actually happening? I'm intrigued to find out.

That kind of non-sense has been going on for quite a while already. It was very clear during the Bradley/Pacquiao fight.
