Brad Stevens to the Celtics

The guy is playing with house money. He'll have no problem finding a college gig if this goes awry, and if it goes well his stock will shoot through the roof.

Ya, but he left Butler on short notice, on the same exact day they joined the big east. While I understand the prestige of the Celtics job, this is hardly a great job after the trade of pierce and Garnett. He's taking over a team in complete rebuilding mode.

To sum up, I hate the timing.

Can't say I blame you there, WMD. That's just a part of the reality of today's sports landscape. This is probably as much a cash grab by Stevens as anything. A lot of folks had high hopes for what he could do with Butler going forward, and the professional ramifications of staying there and being successful could have been just as lucrative for him long term, financially and in terms of raising his profile. Like I said though, if he gets better-than-expected results he'll only make himself a hotter commodity to both college ADs and NBA GMs. Perhaps the rebuilding aspect appealed to him as well, I won't rule that out.

It totally came out of left field. Apparently The Boston Globe's sports section had a feature on potential coaches at some point during the last few days, and Stevens was not among the names listed. Depending on how long it took to broker the deal, all parties did a good job keeping a lid on it. I'm curious to see how it works out. Boston fans can be wicked hawsh.

I'm honestly excited about him. Obviously with a first time NBA coach I'm a little nervous but he looks like he knows what he's doing and has a decent squad of younger guys to mold into his system.

Pierce being traded hurt my Celtic soul since he's been my favorite player since he was drafted but the future is looking pretty good IMO.

Lmao @ the Celtics. Brad Stevens = Rick Pitino 2.0

Although Stevens had a very successful tenure @ Butler he's now in the NBA.

Not a C's fan but I think he'll do fine

Uhh, the timing is perfect if you're Brad Stevens. You come into a job with little expectations, an expected youth movement (which works great for a young and inexperienced coach) and you already have a player with elite potential.

And he's making a fuckton of money.

I'm not a big fan of the "its a good fit because their is low expectations" argument.

Personally I would hate to have a job where ppl have low expectations of me.

I like it, the team is young. No older veterans that will think they are above him. It's a great move in my book.
