Booker T - Oh My Goodness....

Jtrivera

Occasional Pre-Show
Recently I have been watching smackdown more then usual (normally I DVR and skip) but I've been listening to the commentary and all I hear is Booker T every single time something good happens all we hear is "oh my goodness" I mean most commentators have there slogans but seriously do you think Booker can be a little better? I don't understand why Vince is high on the guy so can someone please explain to me why is commentary is so "magical"

I for one like Booker T's commentary. I find him very entertaining in an unintentional way. Often I find myself enjoying what he's trying to say rather than paying attention to the match.

He's not very knowledgeable with move names but makes up for it in enthusiasm and the constant effort to put wrestlers over regardless of their moral affiliation. Also he says a bunch more than "Oh my goodness!" Like tonight's episode of Smackdown for instance and many others:

"Hip bone's connected to the leg bone!!"
"My momma always said, if you can't get along, lets get it on!"
"What the hell.."
"My boy D-Bryan!"
"My boy Big Zeke!"
"Cole...shut-up."
"Like I say..." (then goes on to explain something that we never heard him say before)
"Did you see THAT??"
"Wait a minute.."

All but the first quote, I've heard him say more than once. He's enthusiastic, comfortable being himself (making everything he says believable, unlike Cole's try-hard heelish script), and completely buys into whats going on with the talent, be it a face or heel.

I personally would prefer him going back to his Black Snow character he did once during TNAs Main Event Maria days. That was hilarious.

I was watching WWEs OMG Moments DVD that just came out recently, and was interviewed on a few of the moments, and he talked on the DVD how he does on commentary/King Bookah gimmick. I don't think he has a 'Commentators voice', if that makes sense. Scott Stanford does, JR does and Matt Striker does. Booker does not. I suppose Vince likes him as he's something different.

He's just fine. Why is commentary so important when watching the match? Shouldn't you be more focused on what is happening in the ring rather then what Booker T says every couple of minutes. Booker T at least sticks to what's happening in the ring and actually does a good job at putting over the talent currently in the ring.

I enjoy Booker's commentary if not always for the right reasons. If you don't laugh at him putting on a South Afican accent then you have no soul. Besides he has great chemistry with Cole in the sense the Cole's reaction's to some of Booker's comments always crack me up. Like in tonight's episode when Booker said the insightful "Hip bone's connected to the leg bone" which prompted Cole to scream "WHAT" in a pitch so loud you would think his balls were trapped in a vice.

So basically i am entertained by Booker's commentary and it's the first time i have cared about a commentator not called Jim Ross or Michael Cole.

booker is in my fav 5. the hip bone is connected to the leg bone. i spit out my drink watching cole try not to laugh after booker mentioned the mark on the real sin cara's boot that he noticed to tell them apart.

I dont mind booker because he makes me laugh like when he said "look into sin cara's eyes" then michael cole told him "how can you see his eyes...soon you will talk about the expression on his face"

That was funny, and when the camera is on the commentary your can see they wanted to laugh xD

Booker T is fantastic background noise, his voice isn't as distracting or grating as cole's probably because it's so deep. He is also very much in tune with the crowd, he gets exited when they do and gasps along with them.
Booker is a 100% mark and from the amount of times he just completely loses it and forgets he's on commentary I suspect he goes into matches mostly blind, much like JR does.

Booker has grown on me. He is by far the most entertaining commentator. He said some funny stuff last night. Talking about sin cara and calling the police on Mark Henry.

Their is a lot more natural chemistry during the smackdown broadcast than the Raw broadcast. Booker and Cole are great together. Only issue is that Cole sometimes just goes on long rants during matches. That takes away from the match.

I like Booker T on commentary personally. He is not great at a lot of things but he definitely has something that is worth keeping him around and I enjoy it, especially during matches. I hate coming on here and moaning and rarely ever do (if ever) but whilst on the commentary subject I think they need to bring somebody else in (not to replace booker but to work with him) somebody with some charisma because this lot do not sell things very well at all. When the real Sin Cara turned up on Smackdown it was all pretty low key and meh.. and that has happend quite a few times in the recent past with different things. I don't know maybe some people prefer this but I do not. Anyway back on subject like I said I hope Booker stays because I am a fan of his work in that role.

Booker T had the best line of the night this past Friday on Smackdown. After the Cutting Edge segment was over and Randy Orton was brawling with Mark Henry.. Henry takes out everyone and is stalking around the ring over a bunch of laying bodies and Booker T shouts: "Someone call the PO-lice!"

I laughed out loud.

Great stuff by Booker.

To be honest I really like listening to Booker T's commentary. He always has interesting opinions on a lot of wrestlers because he's simply a legend in this business. And I like how he likes the wrestlers without being the typical bias heel/face commentator. He really brings a great feeling to a match's commentary.

Booker's catchphrases are pretty good in my opinion. I love it everytime he goes "Oh my goodness!", "What the HELL?", "Shucky ducky.." .. Ok.. Maybe not that last part but my point is Booker brings some unique lines to his commentary which makes it pretty entertaining to listen to.

I was the biggest Booker T fan in his Harlem Heat days, and his singles career in WCW. I even follwed him and Stevie Ray in GWF before they went to WCW (originally as Cane & Cole, before using their real names).

Granted, he's no Gordon Sollie (then again, nobody is/was), Jim Ross, Bob Caudelle, or Tony Schiavone. Heck, he's not even David Crockett. Yes, Booker does suck on commentary. But I think it's because he's still not comfortable with it. I mean, there are no "minors" to hone your craft in anymore. Jim Ross wasn't always great. But he had the UWF to learn in first before ending up in NWA-JCP.

However, I'd rather hear Booker T than hear Joey Styles yelling for a whole hour, "OH MY GOD!"

Say what you want about Booker, but he's improved greatly from when he first came on. He's energetic, and enthusiastic. He sells the match to the fullest no matter if it's Randy Orton v Christian/ or Alicia Fox v Natalya. His phrases are some of the funniest I heard in years. Also, he handles Cole in a way they don't do on Raw. Whenever Cole goes to insult something he says, he just tells Cole to shut up and keeps it moving. There's rarely a break in the commentary or awkward pauses. I think he great. He was one of my favorite wrestlers in the ring and he's slowly becoming one of my favorite commentators.

I love his commentary for the wrong reasons. He's comedy gold. I loved it when he shouted "What the hell" during the Sin Cara/Hunico stare down. Of course he could improve, but for comedy value, he's brilliant.

He is funny, interesting and great. He's got the entire package for a commentator. Memorable lines also, I remember that time on the last episode of Smackdown!:

"How do you know that's the real Sin Cara?"
Booker T: "I remember a black mark in Sin Cara's boot in the last few weeks."

I laughed at that bit.

I enjoy the catch phrase "Oh my goodness" and I think Booker T has improved.

But at N.O.C. during HHH/Cmpunk I was overjoyed during the Table incident to hear Booker T say "This is ridiculous!".
I even text a friend to tell him about it.

Just loved it lol.

Penguin, you got it backwards...its documented that it's actually The King that just shows up to the arena and likes to react to what he sees. JR goes straight from the run sheet and likes to be more prepared for 'what's to happen.' Anyway, I'm with you that Booker T probably runs off the cuff as well, and that makes him more organic than Cole, but hey, somebody's gotta drive the bus as it were.

I love Booker T on commentary. When he's on it, he is hilarious. But unfortunately, when he isn't on it, he's not so great. He's still improving though, getting better and better, and gives us some great comic relief at times.

I want JR and Booker on the same commentary team.

Best commentator + the 5 time (x5) WCW champ = commentary GOLD.

He's just fine. Why is commentary so important when watching the match? Shouldn't you be more focused on what is happening in the ring rather then what Booker T says every couple of minutes. Another stupid comment. Personally, I am a big fan of Booker. Find him extremely amusing, he has very good chemistry with Michael Cole. Much prefer him to Tazz or JBL. Josh Matthews also gives the balance of play by play commentator.

But to say why is commentary so important? Commentary is vital in all sports in particular wrestling, it gives an added insight and more excitement to the viewers. Every great WWE/F moment has assosiated commentary; Makind falling through the cell-"That's it, he's dead" Can you imagine this without commentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40hPECUPhP8 . Would've been great but JR makes it special. Don't be so arrogant when posting, making stupid comments like "mute it" He has legitimate complaints and let him have his own opinion. Why contribute on threads if you are just going to bash another person's views. Does it make you feel good or what? If you've got nothing worth saying don't say it. Schmuck

I love Booker in that he isn't your average Announcer. He sounds like a casual fan, makes you feel excited about the match and says the absolute most hilarious things that PG can possibly allow (Hip Bone connected to the Leg Bone = funniest commentary line of the freakin decade). Also, he handles the heel Cole in a way that no one possibly can. At first he just bickered with him all day which annoyed me, but now he just takes Cole's words with a grain of salt and some jokes and moves along. Their chemistry is like those 2 best friends that always take cracks/laugh at each other, but you know at the end of the day it's all good. I'd go so far as to say Booker makes the heel Cole enjoyable (which is a BIG accomplishment). My only issue, and this applies to pretty much every commentator these days, is that they learn the names of moves. I used to hate how Edge would pull an Edgecution and the commentators either just clamor over it or call it some kind of DDT. No, bitch! It's an Edgecution, get it right!

Long story short, Booker = funniest commentator.

Glad to see everybody starting to recognize Booker T for the great job he has been doing. I love that he focuses on the matches and makes every attempt to get the current talent over. He had an amazing career and is one of my favorites, but he knows its not his time anymore and understands and respects the business enough to try to help the younger guys out, not worry about how good he can look. His enthusiasm for it is refreshing, and he comes off as a real fan. I'd love to see him work with JR for a ppv...maybe Nash can powerbomb cole at the beginning of the night lol

I also enjoy his commentary, he adds some personality to the table. Hes this generations Randy Savage on commentary. He got the funny voice and rambles at times :wtf:

I like booker T as commentator now, I believe he has done enough already. He is a 6 time world champion, he doesnt need to prove anything anymore. He is definitely a future hall of famer and one of the greatest wrestlers on his time. I certainly like him wearing his coat and glasses rather than the royal robe and crown and making people kissing his royal feet :lmao:
