Bobby Lashley vs. Ken Shamrock

With only five weeks rest, the UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock will face fellow WWE pro wrestler Bobby Lashley in a headlining heavyweight bout for the Roy Jones Jr.-helmed Squared Ring Promotion’s “March Badness” on March 21 at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla. The event, which plans to alternate between boxing and MMA bouts, will also telecast on live pay-per-view.

Ummm... wow. Well, I guess it's a good move business wise, as I'm sure a lot of people will order the pay-per-view just for this fight, but I still must say.... what the fuck? This fight blows my mind. I honestly have no idea what to expect.

To me, it's a lose-lose situation for both fighters, which you don't see that often in MMA. If Lashley loses, his MMA career is pretty much over, but if he wins, all he did was beat up a washed-up has been. Whereas if Ken loses, it's another embarrassing loss on his record, which he has had a LOT of these past few years. And if he wins, well all he did was beat up a "WWE Superstar wannbe MMA Fighter".

So, again, it makes sense for the promotion to book this, but in my opinion, it makes zero sense for either fighter to take the fight.

At the end of the day, I guess I'll be rooting for Shamrock. Even though it has come out that he's a bit of a tool in real life, Shamrock is still the main reason I became a fan of the UFC way back in the day, and for some reason I just remain a fan of his. And even though I have nothing against him, I've never been a fan of Lashley, so him getting his ass kicked won't mean anything to me.

Where's Seth Petruzelli when you need him?

Lashley v. Shamrock would be a ton better, if only it was 10 yrs ago. Shamrock used to be a God in MMA, and now he's the equivalent of Rocky Balboa in Rocky V. A washed-up has-been that is this close to being a never-was.

You hit the nail on the head. It's a lose-lose for both men. It'll sell some tickets, and a ton of buys, but it won't do anything for MMA.

The best way to salvage this, is to have Shamrock come up with some sort of injury about 3 hours before the fight, throw in an MMA "jobber", and have him beat Lashley all around the ring.

It'll boost that guy's career, and give Lashley a shot at some real training for a huge comeback.

This will be utter shit. Sure it'll sell tickets and buys like you said, but, you have Lashley who's last fight showed hardly no skill, vs Ken Shamrock, who is a legend, but is way to old, and is just embarrassing himself getting back again. My money is on Lashley, just because he has the age advantage by far, and his strength will just overpower the aged Shamrock. Don't get me wrong, i'd absolutely love to see Shamrock completely fuck Lashley up, but at this time, I highly doubt this will happen.

Seems like it is an interesting fight, and if anything, goes to show that professional wrestlers are good in the world of MMA somewhat. It will be nothing like Lesnar showing his dominance, but the point sill still be brought across. I haven't seen anything from this company before, so I may check it out and see if I like them.

I am not sure who will win this match. Lesnar showed a powerhorse can beat the veteran of the sport, can Lashley show that too? The match will probably ge a good buy rate, but I think it will be either short, with Lashley getting caught up, or short when Shamrock gets knocked out.

From Wrestlezone's main page:

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Ken Shamrock, former WWE Intercontinental Champion and TNA World Champion, has been suspended by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for three different kinds of steroids.

It's not known at this time whether this will affect the planned fight between him and Bobby Lashley later this month (March 21st). That fight is taking place in Florida while this was issued in California, however suspensions are often supported by other states.

This comes after Shamrock won his first fight in nearly four years last month against Ross Clifton. He was also charged with a $2500 fine, but is able to appeal the decision. We will keep you updated as soon as we get more details.

:disappointed:

Now, if you watch the old UFC days, there was no doubt Shamrock was on steroids back then, but that's forgivable because I'm pretty sure most in the sport were on them at that time as well. But pulling this shit in today's society is fucking beyond ******ed. What in the World was he thinking? Not only does this put what is perhaps his last 'big draw' fight at risk, but his already damaged legacy gets horrendously worse. Seriously, if Shamrock needs to take steroids to prepare to fight some no name... then why is he fighting in the first place? He needs to ask himself that question.

Anyway, part of me hopes that his circus fight against Lashley still goes ahead, but I don't see it happening now. Shamrock is an idiot.

From Wrestlezone's main page

The Fight Network is reporting that with Ken Shamrock's suspension from a failed steroid test, a new opponent is being sought out for Bobby Lashley's scheduled fight on March 21st in Pensacola, FL. on the card being promoted by famous boxer Roy Jones.

It is confirmed that Lashley will still be fighting on the card, unless by some strange occurance they can't find him a replacement opponent in time.

As far as Shamrock is concerned, he has been fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission and has been suspended for one year. Shamrock does have the option to appeal.

Looks like the fight will not be happening. I can't say i'm dissapointed, but this was a fight that I would like to see. Maybe they'll find someone half decent and younger to fight Lashley. I want to see some skill in this fight as last fight he demonstrated no skill as the fight was so short. Stupid Shammrock who should have retired long ago, now takes steroids to further destroy his legacy.

What do you guys think of the fight being officially canceled?

If it is or isn't cancelled, it doesn't matter. I now picture this fight as nothing imporatnt, and as JMT said... a circus act. I actually think that for Lashley's sake, it is cancelled, and he tries to salvage his potential MMA career without going up against Shamrock, le Idiot.

Instead of Shamrock, it will be Jason Guida (17-19-0)(2 NC) fighting Lashley; based solely on Guida's record, it looks like he's a lamb being lead to a 6'3" 265 pound lion. I'm not really surprised about the whole Shamrock and steroid deal, he's really trying to stay into MMA when it really has passed him by. Back in his day he was the "World's Most Dangerous Man", but now he's just a guy that used to be good way back when.

Eh, this is gonna take away a lot of buys. While his brother Clay is fucking awesome, Jason Guida sucks. He couldn't even make 205 pounds on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8. And even if he would've have, he most likely would've gotten his ass kicked. He's basically just been riding off the coattails of his brother these past couple of years, and now he's getting a fight that will put him in the spotlight, and he will get destroyed. Clay definitely got all the fighting talent in that family, and it's should be a massacre when Lashley gets his hands on Jason. Honestly, even at 155, I think Clay would put up a better fight. This is ridiculous.
