Kung Fu Panda 2 vs. Pirates Of The Caribbean 4

So, I was on Box Office earlier on and noticed that they are predicting that both Kung Fu Panda 2 and Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 are both going to do over $100 million on their opening weekend. It got me to thinking about which one is going to do better in terms of revenue. Thus, it has led me to this thread. Perhaps there is some scope to turn this into a thread series but for now, we will just discuss these two movies.

Prediction
I have to go with Pirates Of The Caribbean. Don't get me wrong, I think it will be pretty close but I think that POTC just has more in the tank than Kung Fu Panda does. I mean, I thought that there was no scope for a sequel to the first Kung Fu Panda movie. I have no idea what the plot is for the second movie but surely it will not hit the spot, in terms of plot, like the original one did? I actually enjoyed the first movie but I don't think that this sequel will be any good unfortunately. That being said, it shows that Jack Black is still a draw at the Box Office with this movie set to take $107 million in it's opening weekend.

For me though, Johnny Depp is probably going to pull in more people than Jack Black will. The POTC series has been a great staple of cinema over the last 10 years and has pulled in absolutely massive amounts of cash for Disney and they will be keen to see if they can keep it coming. If this one does extremely well, then I can see Johnny Depp coming back and doing more, which is always a good thing. POTC was just a more entertaining movie than Kung Fu Panda was and I think that is going to show in the numbers on opening weekend.

But what do you guys think?

POTC Will have the better opening Weekend. POTC is apparently going to be different from the first three with the exception of Captain Jack Sparrow. Kung Fu Panda didn't seem (as you said) to leave anything open to a sequel so it seems like the only reason they made a second one was because of how well the first one did and they wasn't expecting it to do that well.

Not to mention, Johnny Depp Is a much bigger name, hell even Captain Jack Sparrow is a bigger name then Jack black.

But the final reason I think that the POTC Will have the best opening weekend? POTC is a family movie that The whole family will be interested in rather then mainly the kids. it's targeted to a wider Audience.

I think Kung Fu Panada will end up with the better opening weekend.

If you think of it from this perspective, a lot of people were not happy walking out of Pirates 3, (I was), a huge amount of people were very happy after coming out of Kung Fu Panda. Which one would somebody from the ages 4-13 rather see? Probaly the panda. Which then brings parents into it, which thens brings parents bringing the other siblings to it. Pirates 4 may be something fresh however I think that it may not do so well on the opening weekend. Could this number improve with positive reviews? Yes. Could Kung Fu Panda's number go down after reviews Yes. But for the sake of opening weekend I will go with Kung Fu.

P.S. I'm seeing Pirates before I see Panda.

Pirates will have a better opening weekend than Panda. Both of them are films that are sequels that fans have been waiting for. However, Panda is only a sequel whereas Pirates is the fourth movie in the series and fans have had to wait over a year longer for a new Pirates movie than for the second Panda film. We will have to wait and see obviously, but I am going with Pirates 4 having a more successful opening weekend than Panda 2 because fans have been anticipating its release longer and it's part of one of the world's biggest movie series now.

Pirates of the Caribbean without a doubt Dave!!
My reasons:

1) Pirates of The Caribbean is probably one of the best movies ever made in the 2000's, everybody know this movie! I remember going to the last week of POTC 3 and seeing the room theater FULL, and my theater has about 600 sitting places!! (im from Portugal)

2) POTC has 3 movies, so with 3 movies they could amount a lot more fans that one single movie of Kung Fu Panda!

3) The cast!! In one side we have one of the most brilliant actor in the world, and in the other side we have the star of... Gulliver... Jack Black!!

4) Its a new beginning for the entire story, so every fan will be a little curious and excited about that!! I think that POTC could be the next Indiana Jones ehehe

The only thing that could put Kung Fu Panda 2 over POTC 4 is well the advertisement they will do!! And its a animation movie, so people usually likes them all!!

But i stick with POTC 4!!
We will see ;)

Just so that everyone knows, Box Offixe is claiming that King Fu Panda will actually do better than Pirates Of the Caribbean. There is only two million dollars in it but the expectation from “Industry experts” is that Kung Fu Panda is going to have the better opening weekend. It is also expected that Pirates Of The Caribbean will do better in the long-run. It's total stands well above the total that is expected for Kung Fu Panda.

This thread is not about which movie is going to be better, or which movie is going to do better in general. No, this thread is about which movie is going to do better on opening weekend and I think that we are writing off Kung Fu Panda's chances a little prematurely. I mean, I do think that POTC will have a better weekend but let's face it, a lot of kids are going to pressure their parents into seeing this movie with them and it is going to push their ticket sales and gross revenue through the roof.

It will be closer than a lot of us would choose to believe.

I hate to say it, but Kung Fu Panda will win out on opening weekend. Simply put as Dave has already stated, Kids will want to see this movie and I believe that will take away from the potential Smashing of the Box Office from POTC. I personally would see POTC, since I have been waiting since they announced it would be made a few years ago, Panda I honestly had no clue about till bout a month ago, and it looks like the same exact plot with a different backstory, which = boredom, but to the audience its aimed at they will love it.

Just an off topic note: Fast 5 tomorrow night (unless plans change)will have my thoughts posted after I get home from the theater.
