Best Player Series: MLB DH

Rhonda Rousey's Sports Bra

Kinda Sorta Old School
This is the last in a series of threads about the best players in the MLB at their positions. I'm going to use the past 5 years as the criteria, that eliminates one hit wonder and life time acheivement award type players.

Designated Hitters will be the last position in the series.

The question is who do you think the best Designated Hitter in the MLB is and why?

Be ready to defend your choice.

I will be moving on to other sports so look out for those in the near future.

My choice will be David Ortiz.

I may not like the DH or David Ortiz for that matter but there's no denying that Ortiz has been the best DH of recent history. If there is tell me about it. He hasn't been the greatest as of late but he has still been better than the rest.

I tried looking for someone to argue you with, Blue, but Ortiz is the only one who's been a true DH for the past 5 years, and has exceled at the spot. He's obviously turned his career for the better since coming over to Boston and is one of the staples in their lineup. He's almost a guaranteed 30 HR 100 RBI guy each season, which is what you want from your DH. So Ortiz has to be my choice, not only b/c of his stats but b/c there hasn't been any other permanent DH for the last 5 full years.

I really can't think of anyone to argue against Big Papi. A case could be made for a guy like Vlad Guerrero, but he hasn't been strictly a DH and he split time at DH with Juan Rivera (who is pretty underrated) in LA and played the field when he wasn't DHing. Papi has made a living at the DH position and he was having great years consistently until recently, but it seems he has turned it around with an All Star year thus far and who would have thunk that?
