Best Player Series: MLB 3rd Baseman

Rhonda Rousey's Sports Bra

Kinda Sorta Old School
This is the fifth in a series of threads about the best players in the MLB at their positions. I'm going to use the past 5 years as the criteria, that eliminates one hit wonder and life time acheivement award type players.

3rd Baseman will be the fifth position in the series.

The question is who do you think the best 3rd baseman in the MLB is and why?

Be ready to defend your choice.

I tried to think of some that's not A-Rod but couldn't, didn't try too hard but I still didn't. So my choice is Alex Rodriguez.

Here are his stats, If some one wants to argue I'll defend the 3x MVP a little more.

Like Pujols, A Rod is the clear choice here. I'm going to mention someone else just for the sake of mentioning someone else. I'm going to mention someone who in my opinion does not get enough credit for being one of MLB's top studs over the last several years. Miguel Cabrera. I know he's at first base now, but he's spent most of his career at third. If there's anyone that can consistently challenge for the triple crown it's Cabrera. He's only been below .320 once in the last five years. He's been below 30 home runs only once and has never been below 100 RBI. He's already achieved so much and he just turned 27 (the supposed baseball prime) a month ago. He is building a hall of fame career and not many people seem to notice.

With Chipper on the down swing of his career there's no real competition to ARod anymore. The only person close to getting there is Evan Longoria, but I think he's a little overrated and still has some room to improve. This seems to be consensus and should be. This is ARod by two heads and 4 shoulders.

This might be an easiest choice of the series. Even easier than Mauer and Pujols.

- 2 MVPs over the last 5 years.
- 3 silver slugger awards over the last 5 years.
- Over 30 HRs and 100 RBIs in each of the last 5 years, 12 consecutive overall.

No one else can even come close to those numbers. The best at other positions have trouble matching his stats.

Its safe to assume that A-Rod is the top pick. I would say Cabrera would be next in line but were going on 5 year basis and he has been playing 1st for a couple years now. Cabrera is pretty much half and half between 1st and 3rd for the polls. Either way they is no denying he is a great player.

My pick other than A-Rod is David Wright. In his 5 full years he was 2 gold gloves and 2 Silver Slugger awards. Has batted over .300, hit over 25 HR's in and 100 RBI's in all of them but last year but he still had 164 hits in 144 games plus with the injury plagued season the Mets had nobody really produced, he seems to be back on his normal playing stats this year, his avg. isn't at the .300 mark or better yet but there is still a lot of baseball to be played.
