What should happen?

  • Keep Money in the bank an annual match at Wrestlemania

  • Leave it as an annual PPV

  • Don't care, they're boring matches

F*ck Friends, Rather die wiv ma AK!
Well, the reason for this thread is pretty simple as this years may have been the last to take place Wrestlemania because WWE has scheduled a mitb ppv in July...

Okay so since WM 21 which was 2005, wwe held 6 consecutive mitb ladder matches at wrestlemania... here are the matches:

2005
WM 21
Winner: Edge
Other Competitors: Shelton Benjamin, Chris Benoit, Christian, Chris Jericho, and Kane

2006
WM 22
Winner: Rob Van Dam
Other Competitors: Shelton Benjamin, Finlay, Ric Flair, Matt Hardy, Bobby Lashley

2007
WM 23
Winner: Mr. Kennedy
Other Competitors: CM Punk, Edge, Finlay, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, King Booker and Randy Orton

2008
WM XXIV
Winner: CM Punk
Other Competitors: Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, Chris Jericho, Mr. Kennedy, John Morrison and Montel Vontavious Porter

2009
WM XXV
Winner: CM Punk
Other Competitors: Shelton Benjamin, Christian, Finlay, Mark Henry, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Montel Vontavious Porter

2010
WM XXVI
Winner: Jack Swagger
Other Competitors: Shelton Benjamin, Evan Bourne, Christian, Matt Hardy, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Montel Vontavious Porter and Dolph Ziggler

Okay, so there you have it, the MITB matches...What I want to know is, out of them all, What would have to be your favourite match?

My choise would have to be 2008, I choose this for the high spots, Matt Hardy's return and the way in which Punk won, trapping Jericho's legs in the ladder, classic...I did however enjoy others, but for meit has to be this one that took place in Wrestlemania XXIV (the first Wrestlemania I watched live since 2002)...

That's mine, What is yours?

i'm looking forward to the pay-per-view. on screen, Chris Jericho is the man that came up with this idea. whether he really is the guy to think this up or it was someone else in the back and Jericho just gets on screen credit, this match is brilliant. usually one of my favorite matches at Mania.

that said, my favorite will have to be the sentimental one: 2007. this is the only Mania that i've been able to see live of the ones listed, so there is that personal value there.

but also, this saw Mr. Kennedy win as the dark horse and in my mind really solidified his spot as the rising star. i was so hoping that he would actually catch in at the next year's Mania main event. that would have been such an awesome story line. but alas, Edge beat him in a match, took the case and cashed in himself later on.

plus this match had one of the most unique spots that i had ever seen at the time, and that was Jeff Hardy jumping off of a ladder onto Edge that was laid out on another ladder, sending both men thru it! i had seen ladder jumps thru tables many times before, but jumping thru a ladder was just sick!

Regarding whether or not the match should be at WM or have its own PPV, I don't really think that can be answered yet. The PPV hasn't even taken place yet, so I'm going to watch and see how good it is before I condemn or back the idea. At the end of the day, WM shouldn't need MITB to draw or be a success but a "smaller" PPV having such a big match should really help it.

On topic, I agree with the OP as I also think the 2008 MITB match is the best so far. It had a bunch of excellent and entertaining high spots, which is really what the match is all about, and there was never a dull moment. I know you could probably say this about most of the MITB ladder matches, but this one just sticks out in my mind more than the others. It was just a really fun match.

money in the bank is a match i look forward to all year and is a major reason i have ordered the past 4 wrestlemanias to watch live, if the ppv mitb is a tournoment style ppv with qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main even mitb ladder match then that might b worth watching. sorry now onto the question at hand, my favourite mitb ladder match is a toss up between the mania 23 and 24 matches, 23 as stated had the amazing jeff hardy spot which left me speachless and although i was a little dissapointed that kennedy won i understood why to propell him to the ME etc etc. While the 24 mitb was a great specticle to watch i loved the ending ... and was left clutching at my balls (like i assume most men would have) after morrison was strung up on the top rope ... ouch!

in conclusion id have to go with the wm24 match just as it kept me excited throughout.

Either 2005 or 2007. These two stick out in my mind more than any other. They each had great athletes and great spots and they didn't feel forced the action flowed more smoothly than the others. 2005 was the first one and is memorable because it was the first and Edge winning as well as some crazy spots (Benoit jumping off the ladder and E&C double teaming with ladders) 2007 because it had three of the wrestlers who pioneered ladder matches (Edge and both Hardys) and Jeff Hardy doing the legdrop onto Edge.

To answer the question about Jericho coming up with the idea for Money in the bank, I remember around the time of Wrestlemania 21, Jericho talking in interviews saying how many of the top guys were missing from the card (Eddie/Rey came up with the idea of their bout) and Jericho said you could put 6 guys in there and use some of the big names to give it some credability, and it worked, in the first MITB 4 of the 6 were former WORLD champions, not bad.

Now my personally favorite is 2007, WrestleMania 23. The match had a lot of different styles and main eventers that made to match pretty unique, along with 8 guys being in this one, now I pegged Edge to win (as he'd never lost at Wrestlemania before hand, but I was baffled why WWE didn't have Edge/Orton as a match on the card rather then in "cluster" match, after all 4 weeks later on RAW they had a pretty good match.

Wrestlemania 24, I also thing that is one of the best ones, mostly a nice mix of mid carders, champions and main eventer and future main eventers, Punk winning was a surprise, I thought MVP was in line for the win, apart from them two I think the last Wrestlemania 25 and 26 haven't lived up to previous two (23 & 24), The worst is Wrestlemania 22 easily, no reason why Flair was in there, and Lashley hardly being able to climb the ladder made the match a huge joke (IMO), Wrestlemania 21 was pretty much trial and error and come off pretty gnarly in the process.

MITB PPV, I'm not to thrilled on the idea, but this isn't something new, after all WWE did have a Loser leaves RAW MITB on a RAW in 2005, but the PPV concept SHOULD be kept for Wrestlemania, after all that is the match that people associate with Wrestlemania on a yearly basis, The only way this will work is if WWE use it in a storyline, like Edge wanting to be 1# contender, Orton etc etc etc, so The GM or Guest host annouces a mega main event for an upcoming PPV.

Wrestlemania 24 was home to the best MITB match IMO, shelton going through ladder, some stuff john morrison did, and just to me was the best, and punk's first MITB win (not to be biased or anything).

The worst MITB matches had to have been from wrestlemania 22 and 26, not that they were bad matches, just out of all the MITB matches these were the least entertaining (but still were entertaining not to tkae away form them)

i also liked wrestlemania 23 and 25 MITB, but really MITB typically has sick spots and is usually a good entertaining match to look foward to see at wrestlemania, but who knows what will happen with the MITB ppv

IMO the best money in the bank has to be between two; the original one at Mania 21 and Mania 24.

Mania 21 cause its the ORIGINAL you didnt know what to expect and you had BENOIT, EDGE, JERICHO, as the big ones (IMO) and then the mid carders who were aweson at hte moment Kane, Christian and Shelton Benjamin. I wasnt sure who was going to win but I mean Benoit climbing the ladder with an injured arm, a bleeding nose (after a total suicidal headbutt to Kane) and out of nowhere Edge screws him!!!WOW! I hated Edge until he cashed in on Cena lol.

WM 24 its a little bit more personal cause I was upset and dissapointed that last years MitB CM didnt won. but of course it had big areal maneuvers and of course CM PUNK WON THAT ONE and for me it was awesome!!!

BTW the worst MitB matches HAS to be at Mania 22 and 26

mania 23 and mania 24 were both amazing. 23 had the star power and some amazing spots (like hardy, punks rko off the ladder, and a couple more) but 24 from start to finish was just an amazing match.
