I had a look, coudn't see this for the past six months, so I thought I'd ask the question. For me, the more in your face lyrics of people like Bob Dylan aren't that impressive to me, I mean it's not as if I could write them myself, but I still get the feeling I could. I cherish the subtlety and wit and wordplay epoused by people like Morrissey
I don't know if that's my favourite overall lyric, but it is certainly up there. I also am a fan of getting a classy rhyme out of a difficult word, that rhymes and still makes sense, and although they aren't my favourites, they certainly bring a smile...
Incedentally, I was going to put "best and worse" but then I remembered there is no contender for this.
So, what are your favourites? Or are lyrics unimportant to you?
Reel Around the Fountain by The Smiths said:I dreamt about you last night
And I fell out of bed twice
You can pin and mount me like a butterfly
But "take me to the haven of your bed"
Was something that you never said
Two lumps, please
You're the bee's knees
But so am I

Life by Des'ree said:I don't want to see a ghost,
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news
